Lesson Plan (grade 11 – advanced) Period 107 : Preparation date :19 /3/2011 Unit 13: Lesson : listening I. Aims : - By the end of the lesson, the students are able to listen for specific information - By the end of the lesson, the students are able to listen and understand the message - By the end of the lesson, the students are able to learn more about hobbies. II. Lexical items : -ball -marquee -weave III. Structures : -Some students at the back may have difficulty listening in a large class . IV. Teaching aids: - textbook - CD player - Sheet of paper - chalk an board - cards - Handouts V. Techniques : - skill-based ( listening, speaking) VI. Procedures : State/time Teacher’s and students’ activities Blackboard Materials 1. warm- up (7’) Games: Name the Place - Divide the class into tow groups A and B. -Show SS a picture of Cambridge University. ( Appendix 1 ) -Ask SS to call out the name of the place. -Tell SS you are going to give them some cues . 1.It’ s one the most famous universities in the world. 2. It has a world- famous publishing -Posters cards. about the place. The first group to call out the name of place wins the game. These are the cues: - Transition:- What else do you know about Cambridge University? In the listening today, we’ ll get to know about cultural or entertainment activities at Cambridge University. - write down on the board : house. 3.It’s one of the tow oldest and most famous universities in Great Britain 4. The short form of its publishing house in CUP. (Cambridge University Press) Unit 13: Entertainment - Listening Chalk & board 2. Pre- listening (7’) Teaching new words: ( task a, p.182) -Ask SS to match the word or phrases with the pictures. +marquee = a large tent used at social events + Ball = a big formal party with Small board - Check if SS know the meanings of the words. -Show SS how to pronounce the words. - Go over the answers with the class. dance 3. while- listening. (20’) Activity 1:True – false Statements. ( task b, p. 182) - tell SS they are going to listen to Jack’s letter, telling Ann about the activities he did at the university. - Ask SS to read the statements, listen and check whether they are true or false . If they are false, give the correct information. Expected answers: 1. T 2. F 3. F 4. T 5. t Textbook and CD player CD player and chalk + bb -Let SS listen the second time if necessary. - Tell SS to compare answers in pairs. - Go over the answers with the class ; then let SS listen again and check. Activity 2: Questions and answers( task c, p. 183) -Ask SS to listen again and find the answers to the questions. -Ask Ss to work with a partner , ask and answer the question to compare answers in pairs - have SS listen again and check the answers Expected answers: 1. It is a rowing competition 5. they weave brightly colored scarves into a beautiful pattern around a long pole with the class Activity 3: -Ask Ss to work in pairs. -Give each pair a handout with pictures showing different activities.(Appendix2 ) -Tell SS to check the pictures describing the activities mentioned in the listening text -Let SS listen again and check with the class. 4. Post- listening (10’) Speaking :Personalization. -Arrange SS to work in small groups. -Tell them to talk and share ideas on holiday Handouts 5. Homework (1’) activities in their community or hometown. -Go around to monitor and give help if necessary. -Call on some SS to repost to the class abound their groups. -Give feedback and comments on what SS have.
