• Presentation: a show or display; the act the act

or information to a group.

• Content: the information that people

need.

• Structure: beginning, body & ending.

content & organization.

The voice

• The voice: is probably the most valuable

tool of the presenter, helps you convey your convey your message to the audience.

• Some main terms used for defining vocal

quality:

Volume: how loud the sound is

Tone : the characteristics of a sound.

Pace: how long a sound lasts.

Pitch: how high or low a sound is.

Some common vocal problems

• Can’t keep the voice clear through the

presentation.

• Speak too softly.

• Speak too rapidly.

• Use insufficient inflection (pitch,

loudness & pausing variations).

Body language

• Your body communicates different

impressions to the audience.

• Throughout your presentation, display:

Eye contact

Facial expressions: smiling

Gesture

Posture & body orientation

Voice

Visual aids

The visual aids depend on the type of type of your talk Some possibilities:

Overhead projection transparencies (OHPs)

Powerpoint, excel, etc.

Videos, films.

Real objects.

Charts, graphs, handouts…

Always allow time at the end of your presentation for questions.

Repeat the questions.

Answer that last 10-40 seconds work best.

Find the way to agree with part of

their argument.

• The main enemy of a presenter is

tension, which ruins the voice, posture

& spontaneity.

• Your feelings: “very nervous”; “throat

dries up”; “voice goes”; “mind goes

blank”; “heart is pounding”…

feeling of dread?

These are sth you can do:

Do not fight the nerves, welcome them.

Remember our ancestors’ “ fight or flight

” syndrome.

Winners use nerves to their advantages

while the losers get overwhelmed by them.

Take a moment to yourself.
