Week 3 Monday, September, 22 nd , 2008 Theme one You and me Unit one. My homeland I/ Aims: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to ask where someone is from. II / Content: 1. Pronunciation: Where from England Who friend America 2. Vocabulary: - Noun: America, Vietnam, England, Singapore - Question: where - Gioi tu : from 3. Model sentences: I am He is from Vietnam. She is Where are you from? I’m from Vietnam Where’s she / he from? He’s / She’s from England. III / Teaching aids. • Teacher’s preparation: - Wall picture like in page 10 ( size A1 ) - Small pictures ( size A4 ) - Teacher book - Cassette and tape for unit 1 • Student’s preparation: - student’s books, work books. - IV / Teaching skills: Listening, reading, speaking, writing V / Time: Four periods: Period 1 – section A – Ex 1,2,3. Period 2 – section A – Ex 4,5,6,7 Period 3 – section B – Ex 1,2,3 Period 4 – section B – Ex 4,5,6,7 V / Teaching procedure 1 Section A – period 1 – Exercises: 1,2,3 – Page: 10,11 Time Teacher’s activities Student’s activities 1.Warm up.( 5’ ) 2. Presention ( 25 minutes ) 2.1. Introduction. 2.2. New words. 2.3 Structure - Greetings and introducing the attendees. - ask Ss to prepare the books, notebooks and school objects. - check the class attendance. - hang up the wall picture - ask the Ss to describe the picture. (?) What can you see in the picture? - ask Ss to guess the topic of the lesson. - write down the title of the lesson and put away the picture. a/ pre- teach. - hang up the student pictures. Nam ( from Vietnam ), LiLi ( from Singapore), Peter (from America) and Linda (from England ) - say the words “ Vietnam”and elicit its meaning. - read the word three times. - ask Ss to repeat chorally and individually - write down the English words, its part of speech and its meaning in Vietnamese. - do the same with: Singapore, America, England . - ask Ss to read all the word presented b/ Checking : rub out and remember - ask Ss to read all the words chorally - rub out one word each turn in any order. - point to the pictures and ask the Ss to read the word chorally. - do the same until all the words are rubbed out and Ss remember them. - ask the Ss rewrite all the words - check the Ss writing and correct. - ask Ss to write down. - hang the big picture again a/ Set the scene : - Peter and Alan are in the school yard. They are talking about their homeland - Greetings and clap hands. - get out the books, notebooks and school objects. The monitor answer. - Ss answer: - speak out chorally - write down. - say meaning - listen carefully - 2 or 3 Ss repeat the word - repeat chorally ( 2 times ) - read chorally (2 times ) Top – down and top – up. - read chorally - one S write on the board. Production A3- P95 - ask Ss to listen to the tape. b/ Repetition. - play the tape twice. - play the tape, pause after each sentence. - ask Ss to open the books and assign the roles: + read the question - divide the class into 2 groups and ask Ss to read in group - ask Ss to read in pair. c/ draw out the model sentence - stick the card on the board. I’m from Singapore. d/ checking: -pronunciation and intonation: the down- intonation of the question and answer. - meaning: ask Ss to translate the model sentence into Vietnamese. - use: ask Ss when to use this question. - ask Ss to write down. - put away the picture. - go through all the picture in this book - ask Ss to read the question. - hold up and give the answer for the first picture. Then change the role: T asks, Ss answer. - divide Ss into two groups. One asks and another answers, use the picture in their books. - invite some pairs to speech out, check their pronunciation if necessary. - hang up the picture again. - ask Ss to make question and free answer A: Where are you from? B: I’m from……………. - invite some pair to act out. - give the comment and praise good pairs. - repeat chorally 3 times + read the answer: Then inverse the role. - group 1 read the question, group 2 read the anwer. Then inverse. - read in pair. - look at the board. - repeat the model sentence - translate into Vietnamese - Ss may answer: it is use when we want to know about the homeland. - write the structure. - read all the words under the pictures - read chorally - work in group chorally - work in pair. - some pairs act out. 3 3.Reinforcement. 4. One side are the number from 1 to 8. the other side are 4 words: England, America, Singapore, Vietnam and their meaning in Vietnamese - stick the cards on the board so that Ss can see only number side. - divide the class into 2 groups. Each group choose 2 numbers in turn - Turn over the cards. If they are an English word and its meaning, that group will get 1 point. If not, turn the card over again as the origin. - do the same until all the cards are over. - the winner is the one who gets more points - greeting - get out the books, notebooks and school objects - the monitor answers - group 1 choose 2 numbers by change - group 2 do the same 8 2.
