III. NEW LESSON: 1. Before you read ( 7 minutes) - Ask Ps to work in pairs. Ask and answer questions about their daily routine using the cues below. - Do the first example. T: What time do you often get up - Ask them to work in 3 minutes, meanwhile T moves round to help if necessary. - Ask some pairs to report . - Ask Sts to look at the picture in the textbook and guess the man's job. - Introduce the topic of the reading passage: " A day in the life of a farmer" - Introduce some new words: - plough (v) ( the action of the man in the picture) - 'harrow (v) : bừa - a plot of land (n) ( point at the picture) - peasant (n) : a poor farmer -fellow peasant: Cùng là nông dân - pump(v) : bơm -take a short rest: have a rest for a short time. nghỉ giải lao - trans'plant (v)( use 2 words"plant" and "trans-" to explain). do the transplanting - Ask Ss to listen and repeat these words twice, then ask some Sts to read again. 2. While you read ( 20 minutes) Task 1: -Ask Ss to read for gist in 5 minutes to do this task. - Go around the class and provide help if necessary. - Ask them to share their ideas with their partners. - Call on some Ss to read aloud their answers. Ask them to give explain their choice -Conduct the correction. Note: Translate the words in Vietnamese if necessary Task 2: -Ask Ps to read the passage for specific information, then answer the questions. - Ask them to work in pairs , one asks and one answers. - Move round to make sure that all sts are working and to help them if necessary. - Ask some sts to report and give feedback. -Prompt and correct Ps mistakes. Task 3: - Ask Ps to scan the passage and make a brief note about Mr. Vy and Mrs. Tuyet s daily routines. - Ask them to complete the note in 7 minutes, then discuss their answers with their partners. - Ask three Sts to report their answers aloud. - Correct Ps mistakes. Suggestions - In the afternoon: + 2.30: they go to the field again, repair the bank of the plot of land. NEW LESSON: 1. Before you speak ( 7 minutes) Introduce new lesson - Ask Sts about - Remind Ss of the verb tense to use in talking about daily routines. - Recall the way of telling time. T: ( write on the board) 7.15, 7.30 and ask a Ss to read it aloud. - Write some more examples and ask Ss to read aloud. - Ask Ss to make question for the following sentence: " Minh goes to school at 6.30 a.m" Task 1 : - Ask Ps to look at Quan s weekly timetable and’ work in pairs. Ask and answer like this: - Do the first example with a student. T: What time does Quan have a Civic Education lesson on Monday? T: What lesson does Quan have at 7.15 a.m on Monday? - Go round to help Ss and correct any mistakes if there are. -Greeting the teacher -Monitor (answer): -Speak freely. Checking the old lesson: 5’ - Call a student to talk about his/her daily activities in front of the class - elicit feedback from the Ss and give final comments III. Language: - The past simple tense. - Connectors (time expressions) 3. Skills: + Reading: Students read a passage to find the verbs in the past simple and the connectors. + Writing a narrative using the prompts. + Speaking: - Students discuss in groups to share their answers. Task 2: 7’ - Ask Ss to read the passage again and work in groups. - Divide the class into three regions: one identifies the events, one identifies the climax and the rest identifies the conclusion. - Ask Ss to work in only 2 minutes. - Ask three representatives of three groups to report. - Draw the conclusion about writing a narrative. + Form: 3 parts: - introduction. - body: events, climax - conclusion + Verb tense: the past simple tense. + Connectors: at that time, on that day, then, after that, a few minutes later, until, etc. - Ask Ss to do task 3 but before that explain some new words: + 'discotheque (n) : disco + choke (v): to be unable to breath + fire brigade (n) - Ask Ss to listen and read these words again. 2. Consolidation: 2’ - Summarize the main points of writing a narrative: VI. Homework: 1’ - Ask Ps to write a complete narrative about the hotel fire. - Do exercises in student book. - S: The most frightening experience of the writer's life when he(she) travelled on a plane on 14th July 1995. - Listen and repeat new words - Read the passage again and do task 1. And then share their answers with their partners. It was the most frightening experience of my life. - Listen and repeat these words, then write down - Write the passage into their notebooks. Last year I spent my summer holidays at a seaside town. The hotel was modern and comfortable. I had a wonderful holiday until the fire. It was Saturday evening and everyone was sitting in the discothequeon the ground floor. It was crowded with people. They were dancing and singing happily. Suddenly we smelt smoke. Then black smoke began to fill the room. Everybody started to scream in panic. People ran away toward the fire exits. One door was blocked. Many people began to cough and to choke. Then just as we thought we had only minutes to live, the fire brigade arrived. Firemen fought their way into the room and soon everyone was safely out of the building. Luckily, nobody was seriously hurt. Objectives: 1. Education aims: - Students can distinguish the sound /i / from the sound /i:/ and pronounce them correctly. - Students revise the present simple tense and the past simple tense. 2. Knowledge: 1. General knowledge: - a person's hobby and the narrative of a camping trip. 2. Language: - Pronunciation: /i / and /i:/ - The present simple tense. - Adverbs of frequency - The past simple tense. B. Teaching aids: textbook C. Procedure Teacher’s activities Ss’ activities I. organization: 1’ Greeting: +Good morning! +Who s absent today?’ II. Checking the old lesson: 5’ -check some students writing at home and’ exercises in student book III. Warm- up: 5 - Ask Ps to go to the board and write the words which they can hear. - Read words: Sit, seat, ship, sheep, it, eat, meet, meat … - Ask Ps to divide these words into two groups. - Conduct the correction. - Focus on differences. IV. New lesson 1. Pronunciation: 10’ *Vowels: / i/ and / i:/ * Ask Ps the differences between/ i/ and / i:/. - Help Ps read them. - Introduce some minimal pairs and help Ps read them. Sheep, ship, bean, bin, eat, it, lick( liÕm), leek, cheeks, chicks, seen, since … * Ask Ps to open the book then read after the teacher. - Ask Ps to find the vowels: / i/ and / i:/ in the following sentences, then practise reading in the sentences. - Do the first example:( read the sentence aloud and underline the sounds) 1. Is he coming to the cinema ? /ɪ/ /ɪ/ /ɪ/ /ɪ/ - Remind them of the intonation of the questions. - move round to help if necessary. - Ask some Ss to read these sentences aloud. - Give remarks. 2.Grammar and vocabulary: 20’ a. Simple present tense - Ask Ps to retell the usage, form and formation of verbs in the simple present tense. - Ask Ps to give examples. - Walk round and help them with the new words. * Exercise 1: - Ask Ss to do Ex 1 individually in 5 minutes, then share their answers with their partners. - Explain any new words if necessary. - Ask Ss to give examples. - Conduct the correction. b.
