GREEN?

Figure 12: “Do you find it difficult to live green?”

The last question the researchers asked was to know more about students’ feelings about a green lifestyle, which is "Do you find it difficult to live green?” From the chart, it is easy to see that more than half of the respondents (63.5%) answered that net-zero living is not a difficult thing to do This group of people is 27% bigger than the other group, which means that 36.8% of the survey respondents think that a green lifestyle is a difficult thing

From the results of the small-scale survey, most young people have gained awareness of a green lifestyle and made relatively accurate opinions The majority of students adopting a green lifestyle believe that living a green lifestyle is not difficult The young people have done quite well with this healthy lifestyle with practical actions such as eating green foods, limiting plastic

12 wastes, using environmentally friendly products, saving energy, planting more trees, and increasing the frequency of using public transport Reducing plastic trash disposal appears to be the most popular solution since it is relatively effortless Plastic can be reused and recycled, which helps cut down expenses In addition, HANU students are also conscious of the destructive consequences of plastic waste on the environment This idea illustrates the desire of the younger generation to safeguard the environment

Although most students of Hanoi University have an accurate perception of a green lifestyle, the number of students who seriously or do net-zero living is not remarkable As the number of people makes up a smaller share of the question: "Have you practiced a green lifestyle?”

More than half of the students surveyed answered that they only know about a green lifestyle but have not yet practiced it The primary reasons given by students not adopting green ways of living are that they have not found a material that can replace plastic The second reason is wasting money because environment-friendly products need a higher production cost than plastic products Thirdly, it is not convenient since they always have to carry a bag, a bottle, or a straw when going out These limitations might prevent Hanu students from going green

One of the practical ways offered by the researchers to overcome the hindrances is to focus on encouraging thought, which is a form of propaganda Research shows that TV programs or events on this green living topic are ideal communication methods because most students know about the eco-friendly lifestyle through these means In addition, the direct contact environment around students, namely school and family, has a considerable impact on students’ perceptions and behaviors The influential people also significantly contribute to encouraging young people to live green

IV Results and findings of the hypothesis test 1 Research question:

The purpose of this experiment was to investigate how Hanu students understand and implement a green lifestyle To collect data, we asked our respondents if they had practiced a green lifestyle with two options: “practiced” and “never practiced”

Therefore, the data collected is qualitative We formed the hypothesis to figure out whether more than 50% of Hanu students have not practiced a green lifestyle

2.2.1 Two categorical outcomes In the questionnaire, we have two alternatives to our question "Have you practiced a green lifestyle?": practiced and never practiced As a result, we'd like to define

“practiced” as an achievement and "never practiced” as a failure As a result, there are only two possible qualitative results

2.2.2 The population follows Binomial distribution A total of 105 Hanu students were chosen at random for the survey As a result of answering the same questionnaire, a series of 105 identical trials is produced, with each trial involving the answer to one questionnaire

As previously stated, the question has two possible outcomes

The probabilities of choosing “Never practiced” and “Practiced” are different for each trial, with p = 0.65 and |-p = 0.35

The trial is independent because respondents are chosen at random and their responses are not influenced by the responses of others

2.2.3 The sample proportions are approximately normally distributed The sample size is 105 because there are 105 students that are asked n= 105 We have np = 105 x 0.5 R.5 >5 And n(1 - p) = 105 x (1-0.5) = 52.5> 5

As a result, there exist sufficient conditions to employ the Z test and the P-value method

Based on results from questionnaires we have:

- nis the sample size, which equals 105 - i is the sample proportion, which equals 0.65 - Py is the hypothesis proportion, which equals 0.5 - The confidence of the test is 95% in which a = 0.05 4 Hypothesis testing procedure

The hypothesis question is whether more than 50% of Hanu students have not practiced a green lifestyle

- The null hypothesis: H,: p < 0.5 - The alternative hypothesis: H,: p > 0.5 Step 1: The null and alternative hypothesis

- H,:p05 It is a right-tailed test Step 2: Test statistics

Pol ~ Po) n Step 3: Significance level: a = 0.05

We have P-value = P(z>z*) Step 5: Value of test statistics

There is enough evidence to conclude that more than 50% of Hanu students have not practiced a green lifestyle at a 5% level of significance

Although the survey undertaken in the collaboration of all team members and the project received preliminary results, some errors and limitations were inevitable

Firstly, although the overall population of Hanu students is large, the number of students participating in the project survey is relatively small (105 students) due to the

15 limited time, cost, and methods of data collection This limitation may affect the reliability of our final results for the entire population Secondly, the results may be misleading or unreliable as the survey was conducted via an online platform Therefore, more studies with larger sample sizes are needed to confirm the accuracy of this idea

Although errors and limitations in the survey and analysis are unavoidable, the project has reflected positive results in the awareness and actions of students in Hanoi universities about a green lifestyle Firstly, 97.5% of students know about a green lifestyle through TV programs, schools, families, influencers, or events on green living topics Although all are aware of the green lifestyle, only about 2/3 of them practice it

Regarding those who have not yet practiced, the reason is that they think it causes many disadvantages such as cost, inconvenience, and lack of suitable material to replace plastic Secondly, each person has many ways to implement a green lifestyle, such as limiting plastic waste, eating green food, saving energy, planting more trees, and increasing the frequency of using public transport While a green lifestyle could take much effort for some people, they bring us more benefits than disadvantages

In short, living green is essential for students in particular and everyone in general because it will affect our lives, future generations, and other living creatures

VI Recommendations Based on the above discussion of the findings, the following recommendations are made for Hanoi University students to have a correct perception of a green lifestyle and the know-how to live green Their awareness and ideas about a green lifestyle are diverse, and most of them are inspired by events or TV shows Even though everyone is aware of the green lifestyle, only roughly two-thirds of them live it; the rest do not because they believe it has numerous drawbacks

Therefore, to live green, let’s start with the closest things: "green" in thinking, "green" in life, “green” in choice, and "green" in action Firstly, each individual must develop a sense of "living green” and a sense of responsibility for it You can practice healthy habits from eating to living by limiting the use of plastic bags and single-use plastic items, turning off electricity, limiting water use, and sorting waste to save money Environmental companies handle it easier and more efficiently These actions can also help make life

“greener” In addition, you should also practice using public transport; electric motorcycles and electric cars are also an appropriate choice to limit the amount of toxic

16 gasoline smoke Secondly, besides building a green lifestyle for yourself, you should also create a green lifestyle for others We can organize propaganda sessions, workshops, or contests for the environment that will also attract a large number of students as well as people interested in this issue, thereby creating a positive impact more with the environment
