How to make the lesson effective and leave an impression on students? What they need to prepare? Let's find out in this discussion II WHAT TO DO BEFORE DEVELOPING SKILLS? 2.1 Think about career goals As you consider how you can expand your skill set at work, start by thinking about your career goals What kind of position you want to have in the long term? Once you answer that question, you can better determine where your current skill set is lacking To so, start by searching for relevant jobs that match your career goals Once you see a job description of a role that interests you, you can begin to piece together where you need to improve For example, perhaps you would like to manage a team of your own in the future, but you lack the leadership experience As a result, you would want to find opportunities to lead a project or initiative in your current role 2.2 - Reassess your strengths and weaknesses Identifying our strengths and weaknesses can help us understand our abilities and limitations, allowing us to set realistic goals and develop strategies for achieving them By focusing on our strengths, we can maximize our potential and achieve greater success in our personal and professional lives - Identifying our weakness also allow us to improve upon them and work to overcome them Additionally, knowing our strengths and weaknesses can help us to be more self-aware and to better understand how others perceive us, which can be useful in personal and professional relationships Overall, identifying our strengths and weaknesses can lead to improved self-awareness, more effective goal setting and strategies, and better relationships with others - So, five effective steps can help you identify your strengths and weaknesses:  List your strengths: The concrete skills and knowledge you’ve acquired through work experience and education may come to mind first The softer intrinsic strengths may be less obvious but more fundamental Look back to your earlier jobs and to your time at school What did you enjoy most? What were you best at? Your current job may hold clues Pay attention Look for surprises  Ask others for input: Ask current or former colleagues for honest feedback without pulling punches They may mention strengths you don’t recognize, raise questions about the strengths you mention, or ask questions that lead you to imagine new strengths Get the ball rolling by asking questions like these: What am I best at? What strengths might I build on? What are my weaknesses? What jobs should I avoid? What jobs should I target?  Revisit past feedback: Reread your old performance appraisals or recall coaching from supervisors, even if it’s about a different kind of position  “Hire” yourself: Think about hiring yourself for your current job, as if you didn’t already have it Ask yourself why you would — or would not — be hired for this job  Revisit your strength list: Return to your first list of strengths, and modify it to reflect what else you’ve learned Categorize and rank that list Be specific Generic strengths are easy to state They’re seldom helpful Specific strengths are credible They will naturally target you to some opportunities III HOW TO DEVELOP HARD SKILLS? 3.1 Definition of hard skills The term hard skills refers to job-specific abilities or knowledge learned through education, hands-on experience, or training In practice, hard skills are either the technical skills needed to perform a certain job, or a general set of expertise (such as project management) When searching for a new job, emphasizing your hard skills is key to taking the next step in your career because your hard skills prove that you’re qualified and ready to take on the challenges of the position that you applied for However, hard skills alone don’t translate into success, as employees also need other skills, such as soft skills Unlike soft skills, hard skills focus on practical abilities and skills, whereas soft skills focus on behaviors and personalities, such as social and communication skills In fact, recent survey results show that most hiring managers specifically look for hard skills at first when scanning applicants’ resumes For example, if you wanna be a Software Developer, you will need some of these hard skills:  Programming languages (e.g., Java, Python, C++)  Web development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript)  Software development frameworks (e.g., React, Angular)  Database management (e.g., SQL, MySQL) According to data published by LinkedIn in September 2022, some of the top trending hard skills are:  Customer service  Sales  Accounting  Marketing  Social media  Engineering Document continues below Discover more Nguyên lý Giao from: tiếp tiếng Anh… ENTH3121 Trường Đại học… 46 documents Go to course [123doc] - de20 302 cuong-on-thi-mon… Nguyên lý Giao tiếp… None Từ điển tiếng Anh ngành kinh tế-… Nguyên lý Giao tiếp… None Tatm - đề cương câu hỏi ôn tập Nguyên lý Giao tiếp… None The Science Of 12 13 Stage Fright - Copy Nguyên lý Giao tiếp… None TTTM1.2 nhom3 tiếng trung thương… Nguyên lý Giao tiếp… None File sach 20  Structured query language (SQL) 3.2 200 collection Nguyên lý Giao tiếp… None The importance of hard skills in the workplace For the employees:  Hard skills provide the foundation for performing tasks proficiently and effectively, allow employees to meet the technical requirements of their job and deliver high-quality work consistently  Hard skills help employees to upgrade their CVs and consequently will help them to be more confident and outstanding with other employees  Developing relevant hard skills can lead to promotions, salary increases, and access to higher-level positions within an organization  Employees who possess specialized technical skills that are in high demand are less likely to be affected by automation or outsourcing For the headhunters and companies:  Headhunters rely on hard skills to understand the specific skills needed for a position, ensuring candidates possess them to match the role's technical requirements  In-demand hard skills indicate a candidate's expertise in areas that are valued by employers Headhunters consider the relevance, proficiency, and uniqueness of a candidate's hard skills to determine their market value and competitiveness  Employees with strong technical expertise are more likely to come up with creative ideas, contribute to research and development efforts, and drive innovation, leading to company growth and success 3.3 How to develop hard skills teachers looking for? When it comes to teachers, hard skills refer to the specific abilities and qualifications that are crucial for effective teaching and classroom management  Subject Knowledge: Teachers need in-depth knowledge of the subjects they are teaching They should understand the content, concepts, and curriculum related to their subject area and be able to teach it effectively  Pedagogical Skills: Pedagogical skills involve the ability to plan and deliver instruction in a way that engages students and facilitates their learning It includes understanding instructional strategies, lesson planning, effective use of educational materials and resources  Classroom Management: Classroom management is key to creating a positive and productive learning environment Teachers need skills in behavior management, setting clear expectations, maintaining discipline, and creating a structured and organized classroom  Differentiation: Teachers should have the ability to differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of their students, adapt teaching methods, materials, and assessments  Assessment and Evaluation: Teachers must be skilled in assessing student learning and evaluating their progress, analyzing results, providing meaningful feedback and informing instructional decisions  Technology Integration: With the increasing use of technology in education, teachers need to be proficient in integrating technology tools and resources into their teaching practices This includes utilizing educational software, digital resources, and online platforms, and understanding how to effectively use technology for instruction, communication, and assessment IV HOW TO DEVELOP SOFT SKILLS? 4.1 Definition of soft skills Soft skills are personal traits and abilities that individuals may innately possess, typically related to a person's personality and character Also called people skills, soft skills can help people communicate effectively, demonstrate professionalism and develop business relationship Unlike hard skills, which are specific to a particular job or task, soft skills are transferable and can be applied across various settings and roles Soft skills are intangible and subjective qualities that cannot be measured or quantified like hard skills They include:  communication  teamwork  problem-solving  critical thinking  adaptability  time management  leadership  creativity  emotional intelligence 4.2 The importance of soft skills in the workplace So, why are soft skills so important in the workplace? A study by the National Soft Skills Association found that 85% of job success is determined by soft skills, while only 15% is determined by hard skills Employers recognize the importance of soft skills in the workplace, so it's important to showcase these skills in your CV when applying for jobs  Increase productivity and improve team spirit: Increased employee efficiency in their jobs and responsibilities will help the company achieve its goals and grow faster Besides, for a business to operate well, everyone in the organization needs to coordinate and work well together to achieve common goals The quality of work improves when people use their abilities and soft skills in active collaboration  Develop network: People with good soft skills can expand their network and develop themselves faster The more perfect soft skills are, the more opportunities individuals and organizations have to express and break through their careers  Maintain relationships: Soft skills not only support relationships in the workplace, but they also determine the success of an individual or organization when working with customers or business partners Soft skills help make a difference between candidates and this will help employers properly evaluate a candidate's performance  Have more chance of promotion: The more an individual working in a company or business improves their soft skills, the more likely they are to advance their career A leader is not the person who has the deepest understanding of a subject, but the person who has all the necessary professional skills So, if you constantly cultivate soft skills and professional skills, you will go further on the path to conquer your own peak 4.3 How to develop soft skills teachers looking for? Soft skills are important because they allow teachers to interact with their students and colleagues They allow them to communicate with parents and other stakeholders clearly and effectively In addition, these skills help build relationships and develop trust within schools  Communication skills: Communication skills are essential for conveying information clearly and engaging students in the learning process Effective teachers must be able to communicate effectively with parents and students Your ability to listen, speak, read, and write is key to your success as a teacher 10  Creativity: Creative teaching methods and interactive activities can make the learning process more enjoyable and effective A teacher should ensure that lessons are engaging for students to learn something after class If the content isn’t creatively introduced in the classroom, it’s easy for students to be bored and disengaged  Patience: Not all students have learned everything when the teacher taught it Sometimes teachers need to sit down with the students and help them slowly learn something until they finally understand it Teachers cannot rush things They have got to make sure that they’re patient with the student  Time Management: The performance of your students, lesson planning, and classroom organization are just a few things that a teacher has to deal with on a day-to-day basis This can make teaching to be an extremely stressful job, so if teachers don’t know how to manage time and handle work, they won’t balance their workload Manage their time efficiently also allows them to prioritize their professional growth and personal well-being, fostering a sustainable teaching career  Adaptability: Education is constantly changing, and teachers must stay up-to-date with the latest developments E-learning, technology, and teaching practice changes must be managed Educators can attend conferences to keep abreast of new developments in the field  Organization: Organization is a soft skill for teachers that helps them know exactly where every resource is located so that they can quickly find them and prepare lessons for students whenever they need them Therefore, they need to ensure they’ve got a clear lesson plan before entering the classroom instead of an unclear one 11 V CONCLUSION 12 In short, developing and improving skills in the workplace is very important for development and success in work in general and in a teaching career in particular Throughout this presentation, we discussed several key points: Continuous Learning: Emphasizes the importance of lifelong learning and staying up to date with the latest knowledge and trends in the field of teaching This can be achieved through online courses, reading industry-specific material, attending conferences, and seeking out new learning opportunities Improving hard skills and soft skills: balancing hard skills and soft skills will improve work efficiency in general and teamwork in particular At the same time, it will enhance your position and role at work Practical application: Actively apply learned knowledge and skills to real-life situations Participate in projects and activities that allow you to practice and perfect your skills while gaining valuable experience along the way Remember, the methods mentioned above are just a starting point By improving the necessary skills in the teaching process, you can improve your professional development not only in the eyes of your colleagues but also receive admiration from your students, while opening up new opportunities and achieving long-term career success REFERENCE MATERIAL 13 Amanda (2023, 2) Tandym ĐưNc truy lOc tP Steps To Take To Develop Your Skills On The Job: https://tandymgroup.com/ Herrity, J (2023, 6) What Are Soft Skills?
