LASIX Lasix oral tablet is available as both a generic and a brand-name drug, generic name: furosemide It is used to treat hypertension in adults If hypertension is not treated it can lead to serious health problems, including stroke, heart disease and kidney failure Besides, It’s also used to treat edema in adults and some children, which is swelling caused by fluid buildup in your body Lasix is used to treat swelling of the ankles, feet, legs or even the brain or lungs This swelling is called oedema and can occur in some heart, lung, liver or kidney conditions Lasix works by inhibiting the reabsorption of sodium and chloride from the loop of Henle and distal renal tubule and increasing renal excretion of water, sodium, chloride, magnesium, potassium, and calcium The FDA approved furosemide in July 1982 Lasix has administration methods: injection/oral (solution, tablet) The onset of action after oral administration is within one hour, and the diuresis lasts about 6-8 hours The onset of action after injection is five minutes and the duration of diuresis is two hours That means, Lasix usually makes you urinate more within hour or minutes of taking the medication and this effect lasts to hours or hours The diuretic effect of Lasix can cause depletion of sodium, chloride, body water and other minerals Therefore, prescription only and careful medical supervision are necessary during treatment On the other hand, Lasix has some side effects for you to note when using these drugs The following side effects may get better over time as your body gets used to the medication Let your doctor know immediately if you continue to experience these symptoms or if they worsen over time - The following side effects may get better over time as your body gets used to the medication: Abnormal heart rhythm, loss of appetite, - If you get any of the following, talk to your specialist doctor straight away or seek urgent medical advice: Palpitations, Chest pain, Shortness of breath, This is not a complete list of possible side effects If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist In general, the adverse reactions of Lanoxin are dose-dependent and occur at doses higher than those needed to achieve a therapeutic effect Hence, adverse reactions are less common when Lanoxin is used within the recommended dose range, is maintained within the therapeutic serum concentration range, and when there is careful attention to concurrent medications and conditions People who are having a heart attack, abnormal levels of potassium, magnesium, or calcium, low calcium levels, thyroid and metabolism problems should avoid taking digoxin (Lanoxin) Be cautious with pregnant women, women who are breastfeeding and children
