LESSON PLAN Aims: By the end of the class, Ss will be able to: - (Knowledge) Gain some knowledge the advantages and disadvantages of zoos. - (Language) Gain some new vocabulary items related to animals. - (Skill) Ask someone for opinions and show agreement and disagreement. -Talk about the advantages and disadvantages of the new kind of zoo. Assumed knowledge: Students have finished the Reading section and they have had some knowledge of zoos and their characteristics. Teaching aids: textbook, computer, projector, pictures. Pre-Speaking: -Warm-up: -T divides the class into 2 groups A (Tiger) and B (Lion). -Game: The King + Tiger and Lion are trying to beat each other to become the King. The one who can finish the race first will be the winner. +There are 5 questions “Who am I?” that each group must try to answer as quickly as possible. Each question has some cues. The group using fewer cues to answer the question correctly will have a chance to move first. However, some argue that we should not keep animals in zoos. In fact, the zoos have both advantages and disadvantages. Today, we will have a deeper look at this topic”. (using pictures to illustrates.) * Task 2: DISCUSSION - T distributes handouts (Advantages and disadvantages of zoos). words aloud. Work in groups Write the ideas onto the board. Some advantages of zoos: +In modern zoos, animals are placed in enclosures which are similar to their natural habitats. Disadvantages + The enclosures are too small. + Many animals are kept in dirty small cages. => Causing stress and boredom. + Animals are taken out of their natural environments. + Some animals face with different climates. + Not all zoos provide animals with enough care and attention. +Dangerous animals can do harm to the visitors and the keepers. + Modern zoos cost a lot of money to construct and maintain. 15 mins -T tells ss that they are going to have a discussion. -T elicits and gives ss some useful expressions, structures for discussion. Ss can use the ideas on the board or in handouts to discuss. -T gives model. -After 5 minutes, T asks some pairs to stand up to debate about the statement. - T gives feedbacks.
