the ratio to comply with the practice safe injection process was low Need to be active, proactive, improve knowledge, and practice safe injection, especially learning, remembering, and practicing the right actions when injecting CHƯƠNG TỔNG QUAN TÀI LIỆU WHO has defined safe injection as injection that does not cause any harm to the injector, does not expose the injector to any risk, and in particular does not generate hazardous waste Currently, safe injection is one of the most concerned in many countries because unsafe injection can become a burden on health system [1] To illustrate, unsafe injections become a worldwide burden of disease, for example, in 2015, the WHO estimated that 257 million persons (3.5% of the global population) were living with chronic HBV infection [2]; and 260.000 HIV infections which are 5% of new HIV infections [3] According to the WHO (2010), unsafe injections can bring transmission from an extensive variety of pathogens such as viruses, bacteria, fungi, and parasites along with non-infectious adverse events like abscesses [4] Patient care is not easy because patients can develop infections in treatment facilities Therefore, healthcare workers need to adhere to infection control standards and guidelines A reliable source of water, hand sanitizer for waste disposal, disinfectant solution, gloves are also items that are considered paramount and essential 1.1 Statement of the Problem In Vietnam, the consequences of unsafe injections at health facilities have resulted not only in the death of patients but also in affecting healthcare providers It has an extreme impact on the quality of health services and the reputation of the health sector According to a study by Tuong in 2017, the purpose was to identify the risk caused by the unsafe injection, there were 776 injections observed by using a checklist The results found that patients received an average of 2.2 injections per day including intramuscular (43.1%), intravenous injections (43.5%), the most injection was delta muscular injections (26.7%) In addition, 100% of injection used a sterile syringe, 99.2% of injections was placed incorrect position However, the problems were also identified such as not washing hands before injection (55.8%), not sterilizing medication vials (70.7%), incorrect sterilization of the infected skin (27.5%) The nurses in the survey reported that they were at risk of sharp objects in the past eight months (37.8%) In addition, many studies have shown that the knowledge and practice of injections in nursing in hospitals are limited [5] 1.2 Objectives of the Study 1.2.1 General Objective To evaluate the injection safety of nursing students at Nguyen Tat Thanh university 1.2.2 Specific Objectives Determine the rate of safe injection practice among nursing students; Identify the rate of knowledge about safe injection among nursing students; Describe factors relates to safe injection practice among nursing students 1.3 Research Questions What is the rate of practice on safe injection among nursing students? What is the rate of knowledge about safe injection among nursing students? What are the factors related to safe injection practices among nursing student? 1.4 Significance of the Study In order to implement the safe injection guideline in the curriculum, Nguyen Tat Thanh University has been developing the program on safe injection since the year of 2009 to increase the knowledge and practice of the students about safe injection Therefore, the investigation about the practice of safe injection, as well as factors influencing safe injection among nursing students who are in undergraduate degree is essential in the context of Vietnam CHƯƠNG NỘI DUNG VÀ PHƯƠNG PHÁP NGHIÊN CỨU This study adopted a cross-sectional mixed-method (quantitative and qualitative) study design The study was carried out in the Faculty of Nursing at Nguyen Tat Thanh university 2.1 Study Population The study population will be the nursing students who have completed three subjects including fundamentals nursing 1.2, infection control, and safe injection at NTTU 2.2 Sample Size Determination The determination of sample size will be calculated by using the Cochran’s formula (Cochran, 1977) following [6]: n: estimated sample size Z = was the standard normal value corresponding to the desired level of confidence A confidence interval of 95% was assumed (Zα/2 = 1.96) p = 0.22 2.3 Sampling technique Totally, there are 780 nursing students who currently complete three subjects at NTTU In order to get the 264 nursing students for this study, the researchers use system random sampling method with the following steps: Step 1: A list of the names of all nursing students who have completed three subjects numbered from 0001 to 0780 will be prepared Choosing 264 students out of 780 nursing students have completed three subjects by simple random sampling The distance k will be because 780/264 = 3, so the researcher decides to choose one student for the distance of three students in the list ... công tác: Khoa Điều Dưỡng Thời gian thực hiện: 09 tháng Các thành viên phối hợp cộng tác: STT Họ tên Chuyên ngành Lê Thị Quế Phương Điều Dưỡng Cơ quan công tác ĐH NTT Nguyễn Trường Thanh Hải Thống... kê SH ĐH NTT Vũ Thị Xim Điều Dưỡng ĐH NTT Phạm Minh Khang Vật lý ĐH Y Dược Lý Anh Tú Kỹ thuật y sinh ĐH Bách Khoa Ký tên MỤC LỤC MỞ ĐẦU CHƯƠNG TỔNG QUAN TÀI LIỆU CHƯƠNG... infection control standards and guidelines A reliable source of water, hand sanitizer for waste disposal, disinfectant solution, gloves are also items that are considered paramount and essential 1.1
