such as airplanes and helicopters The origins of flight date back to 400 B.C., when the Chinese invented the kite, which was used not only for fun but also to test the weather, and for later development of balloons and gliders In the 1480s, Leonardo da Vinci was fascinated by the thought of flight and drew pictures and designs of his theories of flight and flying machines The first recorded flight was in 1783, when two French inventors flew the first hot air balloon, and the Wright brothers successfully flew the first airplane in 1903 The industry is structured into three main components: commercial, general, and military Commercial aviation includes national carriers such as Delta and American, and regional carriers like GoJet and SkyWest Airlines Commercial airlines may also focus on other areas of business, such as crop dusting, fighting forest fires, and rescue operations According to the trade organization Airlines for America, commercial aviation helps drive more than $1.5 trillion per year in U.S economic activity and more than 11 million U.S jobs General aviation includes personal and business or executive flights and flight instruction The subsectors of the airlines industry include operations, maintenance, marketing, and finance divisions Air transportation may be scheduled or nonscheduled Most commercial airlines operate according to a schedule, flying regular routes, even if the plane isn't full Air carrers that don't operate based on a schedule usually fly during offpeak hours, and usually have more flexibility regarding choice of airport, flight times, and load factors Nonscheduled carriers offer charter flights of passengers, cargo, or specialty flying services In 2014, HartsfieldJackson Atlanta International Airport in Atlanta, Georgia, was ranked the busiest airport in the United States, with more than 46 million airline passengers enplaning there Memphis International Airport in Tennessee was ranked number one in the U.S for the transporting the most cargo, with departing flights having carried nearly 23 trillion pounds of freight and mail LUAN VAN CHAT LUONG download : add luanvanchat@agmail.com CHAPTER : ABOUT GENERAL SUPPORT EQUIPMENTS AIRPORT TERMINAL EQUIPMENT HANGAR AND MAINTENANCE EQUIPMENT TECHNICAL SUPPORT AIR NAVIGATION COMMUNICATION EQUIPMENT LUAN VAN CHAT LUONG download : add luanvanchat@agmail.com The result has been an improvement in their social image The mutually beneficial relationship between the airlines industry and the society should be seen in this context However, social trends have a major impact on the aviation industry in other ways too People are seeing the industry in a new light It is now seen as a carrier for the masses The social perception of air travel has changed It is being seen as safer and convenient Moreover, as the people’s awareness of technology increased they were drawn towards air travel in larger numbers The number of professional travelers also increased There are a large number of social changes that have proved positive for the airlines industry This explains the relationship between the society and the industry Social factors as a result acquire a major value in the context of the aviation industry Events like disasters and wars also have an impact on the airlines industry Whether it was the 9/11 terrorist attacks or other disasters, the impact has been severe for the airlines industry Not just this, the travel preferences of the millenial generation are also favorable for it  Technological: Technological factors’ importance can be understood from the heavy use of technology in aviation Both the travelers and the companies know how great a role it plays Technology means speed but also convenience and safety Whether it is air traffic or transportation , the role of technology is critical The world wide web has also brought higher profits and revenues Most of the bookings take place online Even the aircrafts are enabled by best in class technology Best in class technology means lighter aircrafts that provide  both fuel economy and speed However, it also means convenient interiors and a safer journey In terms of safety too, they are more reliable and efficient Whether it is a commercial passenger carrier or a freights carrier, technology affects profits As technological changes continue, airlines continue to gain by increased safety of air travel. Both Boeing and Airbus are focused on the use of innovative technology to make air travel safer and economic  Ecological: The effect of ecological factors on the airlines industry might be higher than most industries Fuel is a major expenditure for it As a result, these companies invest more in fuel efficient and environment friendly carriers The efforts to reduce emissions had started back in the 1960s The earliest efforts were focused at reducing the smoke from the engines The earlier air-crafts emitted visible smoke that was dangerous The industry invests in research and development so as to bring more efficient and environment friendly air-crafts It is focused on reducing its emissions and carbon footprint Billions are spent by these companies on R&D LUAN VAN CHAT LUONG download : add luanvanchat@agmail.com LUAN VAN CHAT LUONG download : add luanvanchat@agmail.com  Legal: Just like the political or economic factors, the legal factors are of special importance in the context of airlines industry There are several laws related to air traffic and transportation In this regard, the airlines are held liable for air crashes or any other kind of disaster Air transport is also regulated by several customs acts that are of importance 2.1.2 Micro environment: AIRIMEX : Competing capabilities Air transport has radically evolved over the last two decades Liberalisation and deregulation of the sector have facilitated the entry of new firms, which in turn has had a positive impact on competition and innovation Deregulation and liberalisation also significantly altered marked structure, giving rise to mergers of flag airline carriers and diverse forms of collaboration.  However, in some cases, collaboration can actually be anti-competitive It is essential to ensure that former regulatory barriers are not replaced by anti-competitive airline mergers, alliances, agreements and unilateral practices SWOT analysis LUAN VAN CHAT LUONG download : add luanvanchat@agmail.com Conducting a SWOT analysis, which is reviewing the strengths of an organization, its weaknesses, opportunities it can capitalized on maximum profits, and the threats to achieving its potential that provide invaluable information to the organization about the market and understanding the industry as well The aviation industry is not an exception, it too has its own share of strengths and opportunities which once utilized by an organization can help it grows substantially and weaknesses and threats which the organization must strive to minimize to the lowest possible level Strengths One of the strengths of an organization in the aviation industry is the growing income levels The growth in individual incomes increases the amount of disposable income and hence many people are able to utilize the carriers to fly to their destinations Growth in tourism is also a major strength as it has led to a significant increase in the number of domestic and international passengers with statistics indicating a 50% growth in the number of domestic flyers and a 25% increase in the number of international flyers Despite the downturns, air travel has continued to grow over time and is one of those industries that are far away from reaching their peak This can be partly attributed to the ever growing population and the increase in the propensity of people to fly With efficient management, an organization in the aviation industry is guaranteed to grow into a big and profitable enterprise Air travel has a marked safety record and has been generally accepted as a safe and fast way to travel Even the low cost growing airlines have safety and speed attributed to them and therefore, a small growing airline shares this strength with big and recognized brand names in the industry which is quite an advantage Airline staff consists of highly trained personnel, which is a major strength, to any organization in the industry Weaknesses One of the major weaknesses in the aviation industry is infrastructural development The development of infrastructure has been very slow thus unable to keep up the pace of growth of the aviation sector It is therefore, a major bottleneck in the industry A growing airline should therefore, give priority to investing in infrastructure by constructing state of the art airports with adequate runways and ample parking lots for passengers It should also invest on routes leading to the airports to help reduce passenger delays due to traffic Airlines have been known to have a very high 'spoilage' rate in comparison with other industries Once a passenger misses his/her flight, the income/revenue from that seat is lost In order to avoid or minimize this occurrence, the airline should establish a method of contacting LUAN VAN CHAT LUONG download : add luanvanchat@agmail.com all the passengers prior to departure to remind them of their flight There should also be a larger time window between the boarding time and the departure of the airbus to cater for those passengers who arrive late for their flights Aircrafts are very expensive and running an airline requires a very huge capital outlay For this to work to the advantage of the airline, proper marketing strategies are required, and careful planning to ensure that returns on investment are greater than the initial investment An airline may find it very difficult to compete with other carriers due to their low fares To survive this, the organization can lower its fares but ensure that they are in balance with the returns to avoid losses Extensive advertising campaigns on quality can also give it an edge over the low cost carriers Opportunities There are many opportunities that an airline can capitalize on to reap maximum profits Expected investment is one of the opportunities that can benefit an airline The aviation sector is ever growing, and there is an increasing number of stakeholders in the industry willing to invest in air travel An airline can take this opportunity to increase its capital base so as to be able to enjoy large economies of scale Development of new services can have a substantial blow on the profits of an organization In aviation, an airline can introduce mailing services for delivery of mails and cargos across the globe It can also introduce special fare packages for those travelling to certain destinations for pleasure or business Technological advancement and investment in information technology is an opportunity that can greatly help an organization to minimize its operation cost An airline can rely on information technology to offer more customers friendly services and also provide customers with other services like internet while travelling which would make them pay more for the services hence increasing the profit margins of the organization The organization should evaluate end user response to its services to gain information on what areas of its services to improve This would go a long way in helping the organization acquire new customers as well as retain its old ones who are satisfied with the services being offered Threats Threats are another element of external environment for the American airline company Threats are negative factors to the company business that affects the services of the company as well as its actions (North, 1997) The identified threats facing the American airline company are pressure to reduce the cost due to competition, hike in the fuel market, escalating demands of Labour Unions and technology growth like video conferencing that has limited LUAN VAN CHAT LUONG download : add luanvanchat@agmail.com the travel needs (DuBois, 2012) Other threats being faced by the American airline company are terrorist attacks, hostile countries and lack of hospitality from enemy countries due to power differences (Levine-Weinberg, 2016) Threats in business are accepted as negative factors that the company needs to ensure there is no reluctance in its workers (Zeng, 2004) On the business threats like the hike in this case of the American airline company, hike in the fuel market is a demanding factor that the management system should increase the price also by a certain percentage (Drucker, 1992) Hiking the price is again will lead to losing of customers from the excuse of high prices Another threat from terrorist attacks is limiting the airline operations to some destinations Security of the customer is a critical issue for every business On safety issues, the company is therefore required to spend an extra coin on insurance covers for every passenger 2.2 Description of the tasks given : 2.2.1 Job description : Executive in import-export Implementing the trading activities, negotiations, signed a contract with customers and suppliers As a import export executive, I has a wide range of duties that deal with each step of the shipping process I track shipments and communicate with clients about goods will not be able to clearance if the paper have mistakes or lacking of some bill or receipt and couldn’t be deliver to VNA The following will show a complete of shipping documents of our each cargo :  Before receive from forwarder : a Quotation An offer to sell goods and should state clearly the price, details of quality, quantity, trade terms, delivery terms and payment terms Prepared timely delivery as well as returns Keep track on the cargo, assign the time deliver appropriate with the requires of the buyer to guarantee the goods was carried on time in purpose of technical repairs, assembling on aircraft 2.2.2 Transportation service to Vietnam Airlines : A Segmentation: Vietnam Airlines has been an important partner and becoming the biggest customer of AIRIMEX for over 20 years, therefore the tranportations and contracts and commercial transactions will be conducted between VNA and AIRIMEX This model segments customers based on their needs Of all the methods of segmentation, this one offers the marketer the most accurate way to target customer segments It is highly scalable because the marketer can designate as many needs-based segments as preferred Needs-based segmentation often derives from what drives potential leads toward your business in the first place As VNA now become a four-star international airline with high quality and professional services, having the modern aircrafts and AIRIMEX is proud to be the main partner in providing spare parts and engine for the purpose of technical repair and assemble on aicraft in order to improve the quality of standard aircraft The criterion needed for segment  Activity sectors: as AIRIMEX working specialise in aviation spare parts and aircraft engines which are the main need of VNA  Degree of internationalization : Vietnam Airlines has become an official member of SkyTeam Alliance – a global airline alliance and the good which AIRIMEX import from foreign partners always have certificate from the origin country so the degree of internationalization is ensured  Competitive intensity : there is less of competiton in this services as AIRIMEX is a company directly under Vietnam Airlines so the competition wasn’t a difficulty for AIRIMEX in its activity LUAN VAN CHAT LUONG download : add luanvanchat@agmail.com  Complexity of the systems of influence : the influence of many department is quite a problem as the custom and payments related in Vietnam is complex and offer many procedure and may specialised documensts Offer proposal AIRIMEX offer transportation services of engineering spare parts and aircraft engines which is imported from foreign partners like Boeing or Airbus, etc The cargo shall transmitted by airway from a forwarder was one of our partners to our warehouse at Noi Bai International Airport and AIRIMEX is responsible for all the receive , tracking and check the cargo as well as the custom and payment procedures from the minute it was booked until the shipments arrived at the warehouse included the transportation The shipments is built on Incoterms (The International Chamber of Commerce publishes Incoterms, means international commercial terms, and traders commonly use them to help understand one another in domestic and international trade) Our main terms that AIRIMEX been using are EXW - Ex Works FCA - Free Carrier CPT - Carriage Paid To DAT - Delivered At Terminal (new) DAP - Delivered At Place (new) DDP - Delivered Duty Paid CIF – Cost, insurance and freight LUAN VAN CHAT LUONG download : add luanvanchat@agmail.com DDU - Delivered Duty Unpaid The terms is depend on the kind of goods base on the requirments between the shipping agent, the forwarder, AIRIMEX and VNA by contracts LUAN VAN CHAT LUONG download : add luanvanchat@agmail.com CHAPTER : EVALUATION ON THE REPORT 3.1 Achievements of the report During the period of internship, I have been given the tasks of an import-export executive such as fill out the goods document, placing order as well as take care of custom procedure in order to get the goods delivered to the end user In general, this report has successfully identified the desired market segment that AIRIMEX should be focus in as well as the targeted customer Considering the resources and the company ability, I think that the segment and the customer group that I have selected is very suitable for the company Besides this report is succeedded in the transporting services to our end user – Vietnam Airlines and The data I collected can contribute ideas to make the services much more better which from reputable sources and recently updated 3.2 Difficulties encountered on the process of completing the project There are different difficulties occurred during the different tasks which have been given to me in my internship period The first difficulty that I faced duting the time I doing the procedure of the services is that the problem with the custom related As the documents have mistakes on the bill and invoice Second, sometimes I have problem with the chargeable weight of the cargo sometimes The chargeable weight which appeared on the Airway Bill is usually incorrect and we have to wait for response from our forwarder or from our warehouse to confirm the exact weight of the cargo otherwise it couldn’t be clearance for delivery Finaly, there is unpredictable situation happened when I was carried the payment procedure for example the money hasn’t been delivered to the bank or the buyer doesn’t get the payments terms clearly which had lead to result of delay payment On my part, since it is my first time working in a new environment of the company, so I have struggled myself : It took time for me to get used to the paper and the documents I have to spend time on observing and catching up to the working pace of my colleagues in the department Sometimes, I had to ask for the advices of the seniors in my department on some tasks because I still lack of experiences required to proper;y handle the task, this cause some unexpected slowdown in the working pace of my own After a period of working and training with experienced people in AIRIMEX, I have managed to work efficiently as well as be able to catch up to the working of the department LUAN VAN CHAT LUONG download : add luanvanchat@agmail.com 3.3 Experienced gained during the time of internship : During the time of my internship, under the guidance of my tutors as well as the professors at VCU, I have been able to put my knowledge accquired in the University of Commerce into practice and contributed to a company that I had the honor to work in a period of time I have learnt how to placing an order and negotiation on shipments in order to get the goods smoothly transported from our forwarders to the end user The seniors colleagues and my tutor are always willing to answer all of my questions and carefully instructed if I have difficult in my given tasks My tutor at the company has provided me with a trustworthy and reputable sources of information about the import-export activity and the custom procedures In order to work efficiently in the Department of AIRIMEX , I also need to focus on creating my own working behavior that can catch up with my co-workers in the department By all the instruction, review and correction that helped me to improved my skills on negotiation, solving problem on my own, fill in specialised documents for different purpose of transporting Over the time I had managed to work efficiently and didn’t make many mistakes when I started working and gained valuable real working experiences There was time that I faced problem of custom and complex customm procedure My tutor and co-workers had carefully instructied me that I could make the transmitting come back in row LUAN VAN CHAT LUONG download : add luanvanchat@agmail.com CONCLUSION In the time that I have the honor to work as an internship in the import-export department of AIRIMEX, under the guidance and tutoring of my tutor and my seniors colleagues, I have achieved a lot of practical working experience The internship is a valuable opportunity for a Maketing student like me has a chance to put the knowledge that I have studied in the university into practice This report has proposed many effecitve proposal for the transportation services to VNA in order to get there quality of the aircraft much better To be able to offer proposal and solving paper of custom and payment related is not an easy task especially in B2B form of reselling good from another forwarders to our end user, only when I really started working in a real company did I realized the difficulties that I can encounter in my future job There is a lot of differences between theories and reality so the internship process is very helpful for me to have a new experience for my future job Once again, I would like ot express my greatest attitude to my tutor and my colleagues in the Import-Export Department of General Aviation Import-Export Joint Stock Company for providing me an opportunity to work in the company and always give me helpful advices and directions on the process of the internship I would like to thanhk all of my teachers and tutors in the University that guided and taught me valuable knowledge for all the years at VCU LUAN VAN CHAT LUONG download : add
