T For immediate release June 7, 2016 For more information contact: Katherine Radler, President Michele Bresler, Chair, Public Relations The Alumnae of Northwestern University 847-869-1010 – mbresler@sbcglobal.net Twenty Northwestern Students Granted Summer Internships by The Alumnae of Northwestern University EVANSTON, Ill - The Alumnae of Northwestern University has selected 20 students to receive grants to fund summer internships The Summer Internship Grant Program (SIGP) provides undergraduate students a $3,000 stipend for completing an unpaid summer internship while simultaneously participating in a professional development program offered by Northwestern Career Advancement (NCA) The Alumnae has been a staunch supporter of the SIGP program since 2010 NCA serves as the program administrator, with financial support coming from The Alumnae of Northwestern University, other generous alumni donors, and the President and Provost offices SIGP applicant numbers have soared since the program’s first year, when grants were awarded to 10 students out of 90 applicants In 2016, more than 700 students applied for grants to support summer internships; more than 350 were awarded The Alumnae’s 20 recipients were selected from a pool of 67 of high quality applications “By sponsoring these grants, our organization is pleased to provide financial support for 20 undergraduates who will have the unique experience of a summer internship,” notes Katherine Radler, president of The Alumnae of Northwestern University Recipients of the 2016 grants are: Fernanda Arreola, senior (graduating in December 2016) in the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences (WCAS) from Cicero, Ill., is studying political science Her intended internship is with the US Department of State American Presence Post in Bordeaux, France Drake Driscoll, sophomore from Holly Spring, N.C., in the Bienen School of Music (BSM) is studying cello performance Her internships are with Ottawa Young Artist Program, Meadowmount School of Music, and Holland International Music Sessions in Westport, N.Y Haley Dunbrack, junior (WCAS) from Overland Park, Kan., is studying creative writing Her internship is with Browne and Miller Literary Association in Chicago, Ill Jo Efobi, junior (WCAS) from Abjua, Federal Capital Territory, Nigeria, is studying neuroscience Her internship is with Marjorie Kovler Center in Chicago, Ill Omaima Es-samaali, junior from Doha, Qatar, in the School of Communication (C) is studying media and communication Her internship is with Al Jazeera English in Doha, Qatar Lorenzo Gudino, junior from Oak Lawn, Ill., in the Medill School of Journalism, Media, Integrated Marketing Communication (J) is studying journalism His intended internship is with the American Indian Center of Chicago Selin Halman, sophomore (WCAS) from Munich, Bavaria (Germany), is studying economics Her internship is with Work Market, Inc in Manhatten, N.Y Amy Hong, sophomore from Incheon, South Korea, in the McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science (McC) is studying chemical engineering Her internship is with SAMDI Technology, Inc in Chicago, Ill Julianne Lang, sophomore (C) from Atlanta, Ga., is studying theatre Her internship is with Chicago Youth Shakespeare in Evanston, Ill Frank Laucerica, junior (BSM) from Miami Fla., is studying voice and opera performance His internship is with Miami Summer Music Festival in Miami, Fla Kate Lee, junior (WCAS and BSM) from Deerfield, Ill., is studying voice performance and choral/general music education Her internship is with Grant Park Music Festival in Chicago, Ill Natalie Lee, junior (WCAS) from Okemos, Mich., is studying violin performance and psychology Her internship is with Aspen Music Festival and School in Aspen, Colo Sumaia Masoom, sophomore in the School of Education and Social Policy (SESP) from Platteville, Wis., is studying social policy Her internship is with White House Initiative on Asian American and Pacific Islanders in Washington, D.C Elizabeth Odunsi, sophomore (WCAS) from Dayton, Ohio, is studying African-American Studies;
