Sau đại học 2020 A SURVEY INTO PERCEPTIONS OF COMMON ERRORS IN PRODUCTION OF THE ENGLISH SOUND /Ʒ/ OF VIETNAMESE PRE-INTERMEDIATE LEARNERS OF ENGLISH AT A PRIVATE ENGLISH CENTER FOR ADULTS Dinh Thi Nguyen Anh Graduate student, Faculty of English Linguistics & Literature  Abstract: The recent years have witnessed a so-called trend in communication-focused English classes for adult learners in Vietnam thanks to the need of being global citizens and the national-wide application of communicative language teaching However, the focus on fluency has led to the ignorance of some mispronunciation, notably the non-native sound /ʒ/ This study addresses the problems in the sound production stage of the English sound /ʒ/ among Vietnamese pre-intermediate adult learners of English, investigates the perceptions of both teachers and learners on such problems in terms of their causes and treatments, and finally proposes probable solutions to minimize errors of producing non-native sounds A survey was conducted with Vietnamese teachers of English and 12 Vietnamese preintermediate adult learners of English at a private English center for adults, which included a test and considerable gap in opinions for the other two causes Regarding the error types, voiced sound /ʒ/ was pronounced incorrectly as /s/, /z/, /ʃ/, /dʒ/, or even ignored Also, there was no disagreement for the most common error type /ʃ/ Last but not least, correction techniques used by the participants were not varied Some recommendations for students, teachers, syllabus design and future studies were STUDENTS’ ENGLISH READING COMPREHENSION AT MARIE CURIE HIGH SCHOOL - HO CHI MINH CITY Bui Thi Truc Linh - Tran Thi Truyen - Nguyen Hong Tham Graduate student, Faculty of English Linguistics & Literature  Abstract: Reading comprehension plays a crucial role in English learning However, students encounter difficulties in understanding the meaning of reading texts Previous studies showed that video storytelling had great benefits to English learners This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of video storytelling on students’ English reading comprehension The research was conducted with the participation of 60 learners from two classes of grade 10 at Marie Curie High School Both the classes were taught by the researchers While the control group was instructed with the traditional method, the researchers applied video storytelling to teach reading comprehension in the experimental group Two questionnaires and a pretest-posttest design were used to collect the data The results indicated that the students in the experimental class had positive attitudes towards English reading comprehension and outperformed the control group On this basis, it is recommended that EFFECTS OF INSTRINSIC AND EXTRINSIC MOTIVATION ON TEACHERS’ KNOWLEDGE SHARING INTENTIONS IN PUBLIC UNIVERSITIES IN HO CHI MINH CITY Nguyen Thi Hoai Anh – Mai Truong An Graduate student, Faculty of English Linguistics & Literature  Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to examine the role of both extrinsic (expected organizational rewards and reciprocal benefits) and intrinsic (knowledge self-efficacy and enjoyment in helping others) motivators in explaining teachers’ knowledge sharing intentions Based on a survey of 223 teachers from various public sector universities in Ho Chi Minh City, this study applies the structural model approach to investigate the research model The data collected from participants were analyzed by using SPSS 23.0 The results of the study showed that the most weighted motivational factor that affects teacher sharing intentions was reciprocal benefits In addition, enjoyment in helping others, and expected organizational rewards were also significantly associated with teacher knowledge sharing intentions However, knowledge selfefficacy did not significantly influence teacher behavior intentions regarding knowledge sharing Keywords: knowledge there are different views on the importance of error correction Hence, this survey aims at providing empirical evidence on the practice of error correction in teaching English writing to pre-intermediate EFL students The questionnaire was administered to 229 non-English major students of a General English course at a provincial tertiary school in Vietnam The results suggest that error a majority of English classes, the introduction of suprasegmentals to EFL classrooms has received more and more attention in the field Giving priority to suprasegmental features of English is considered to have greater impacts on the comprehensibility of EFL learners In this paper, the value of teaching suprasegmentals in the EFL classroom, together with how specific suprasegmental features have been introduced to and practiced among EFL learners particularly in Vietnamese context, serves as the focal point of discussion By presenting the effectiveness of teaching suprasegmental involved, the productive skills of speaking and writing are always put at the forefront as the two are supposedly challenging to grasp at as well as demand much effort to achieve mastery In such pursuit, EFL learners in many countries may agree that listening and reading are often neglected and viewed as nothing more than supplementary skills that only serve to boost the absorption of the two Nowadays, technology has become an important tool used for facilitating learning, especially English language learning With the development of educational technology, an increasing number of sources of materials on the Internet are provided to teachers and learners Among the materials, online websites have considerably played a more important role in teaching and learning English as a foreign language (EFL) This paper aims to evaluate as well as compare and contrast the effectiveness in supporting EFL learners to develop listening skills of three websites, namely: Ello, British Council Learn English and TED Talks The evaluation focused on four main aspects including content quality, design quality, organizational quality and usefulness for EFL teachers and learners The result reveals that all three websites have their own strengths and weaknesses and that they are useful for learners to practice listening skills in their own ways depending on the users’ ages, levels and
