HYDRO-GEOPHYSICS TRAINING SCHOOL 2018 HCM University of Technology (April, 16-21, 2018) VIETNAM Geophysics provides several tools to study the sub-surface measuring soil physical parameters from the surface The training school proposes an intensive course focusing on one of main geophysical method applied to hydrological and hydrogeological problems that could be applied in Vietnam: resistivity methods (Direct Current DC and Electromagnetic -EM) which are one of the most appropriate parameter for hydrogeological problems (coastal aquifers, salt water intrusion, hard rock and sedimentary aquifers) within the range 0-50 to 100 m deep We will use Electrical Resistivity Tomography (ERT) and Time Domain (TDEM) techniques (and possibly Frequency Electromagnetic-FEM if equipment available) during a field training Languages: Predominant is English, supporting in Vietnamese Resistivity cross sections in sandy coastal environnement Blue colors indicate saline groundwater intrusion; red colors a fresh sandy aquifer Resistvity tomography across a hard rock aquifer, West Africa Dates: From Monday, April 16 to Saturday, April 21 Day / Day / class Day / class room room class room Day practice Monday april 16 Electrical tomography method:  / Field Day / Field Day / class room practice Tuesday 17 april Wednesday 18 april Thursday 19 april Friday 20 april Saturday 21 april (optional) Electrical tomography method Electromagne tic method Morning: departure for field work Afternoon: ERT measurement Night close to the field TDEM measurements Afternoon Back from field work Field data interpretation Starts 10 h to 16 h Typical number of students: 20, Master student level preferably If some professors and /or lecturers are interested in the course, they can attend the course Requirements: Basic knowledge on hydrogeology and geophysics PC Windows computer for 2-3 people Duration: days: first days in class room, then days in the field, day for field interpretation in classroom at the end + exam (if needed) Typical day: 9:00-12:30h and 14 h -17:30h each day / or full day if field trip  Detail Program Day Morning Introduction to Hydrogeophysics and resistivity methods General strategy of hydrogeophysical study Coastal zones, sedimentary and hard rock hydrogeological models and geophysical targets Physical properties of rock used in geophysics Electrical properties of rocks Direct current resistivity measurements Introduction to electrical tomography (2D ERT) Practice of electrical resistivity tomography interpretation, Practice of interpretation Afternoon electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) Is ERT adapted to your problem?
