CHAPTER INTRODUCTION 1.1 Rationale As a student at Duy Tan University's Foreign Language Department, I have many opportunities to gain extensive knowledge of various types of translation, and I am constantly aware that the demand for interpretation and translation is increasing, especially in the field of tourism Furthermore, the translator must not only be skilled in the area of translation but also have a thorough understanding of whether he or she is interpreting the way that he or she is From ancient times to the present, adults and children have both enjoyed reading As it provides the reader with many advantages, including improved cognitive ability, stress relief, and critical thinking ability It may also relay information about the mind and how to change it The book I choose is "20 Minute Manager Managing Time " by Harvard Business Review Press The book not only explains why you must manage your time but also identifies the key factors that cause work interruptions Besides, it will help you learn the basic, tried-and-true methods of building a work schedule in the right direction in a very short amount of time by applying the concepts and strategies in this book, you'll be able to save two extra efficient hours of work per day, improving your work quality or labor productivity by doubling without putting in too much effort or time Personally, I've always been interested in assessing how I'm using my time, finding out the insensitive time-lapse spots in a day Finding the tips and direction was suitable for me, so I decided to choose the title "20 Minute Manager Managing Time" to translate from English into Vietnamese and analyzing some necessary issues so that readers can approach and understand them easily Hence I chose the topic “the analysis of suggested translation of chapters 4,5 and of the book “20 Minute Manager Managing Time” by Harvard Business Review Press, 2014” for my graduation paper Supervisor: Nguyen Thi Bao Yen Objective 1.2.1 Aims The aim of this research is to evaluate the English translational version of the book “20 Minute Manager Managing Time” from three perspectives, namely lexical, syntactic, and interpretation, in order to improve my translating and analyzing abilities The analysis then recommends some optimal solutions for problems and challenges with translation, terminology, and structure typically the longest one Example 33: Many of us skip thinking this through, but when we do, we often the wrong work at the wrong time—and so we spend more time than we should on things that matter less [L5, P15, p10] In this compound-complex sentence, it has a compound structure connected by conjunction “and”, the complex structure a relative clause with “when” Suggsted Version: Nhiều người bỏ participle This is the sentence with passive voice structure of present perfect tense A verb in passive voice is often translated into “được” or “bị” Therefore, I decide to translate the sentence into it's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me I've found that it is not straightforward for a student in the real world and what I've learned in school is just a small part of everything I need to know Translation is a form of language translation from SL to TL in which translators must include a text that is reliable, succinct, descriptive, and easy to understand for the reader However, each language has its own characteristics and expression, which would have an impact on the content of the proposed translated versions As a result, it is difficult to correctly and fluently interpret and evaluate text from English to Vietnamese Translators must have in-depth experience of the field they are interpreting in order to get a correct translation of the material and form, as well as a smooth and natural translation Around the same time, translators must have a deep understanding of grammar and terminology in order to successfully adapt them to text translation As a result, as a non-professional translator, I continue to face numerous challenges in the translation process, including: To begin with, one of the most important aspects of the translation process is vocabulary Translators must have a broad vocabulary in order to use it in conjunction with the translation Vocabulary aids translators in communicating concepts and content As a result, this is one of the issues that we are concerned with The multi-word, for example, often perplexes us because it is extremely difficult to determine the precise meaning of a multiple word in English To chose the appropriate interpretation, we must first consider the context and the author's concept Secondly, untranslated terms and synonyms add to the transcription process's difficulties We can't use a dictionary to search meaning for untranslated words; instead, I need to consider the author's meaning and the sense of the text so that we can pick the Vietnamese word that is closest in meaning Additionally, we distinct in English and Vietnamese grammar As a result, in order to translate English terms into Vietnamese, we must not only comprehend the author's context but also understand how to correctly transform the form However, certain translations are unnatural due to differences in language use between countries Indigenous people, for example, often use passive expressions, while Vietnamese people, on the other hand, use aggressive expressions to convey their thoughts or intentions The final challenge is to improve the smoothness and naturalness of my translation The cultural differences between two languages are enormous, and students normally cling to each word in the original version to transfer; this ability, of course, takes further practice Both of these items act as impediments to the author's ideas being transferred from the source language to the target language To summarize, translators must have a broad understanding of a variety of fields in order to effectively interpret a document Furthermore, translators must master the grammar of the language as well as learn to incorporate a large vocabulary 5.2 SOLUTIONS Challenges provide them with many opportunities As a result, the difficulties I mentioned earlier are my chances Learning how to overcome them, in my view, is one of the ways that I can gain useful knowledge to help me become a better translator Any of my suggestions are as follows: I read the original text several times before starting the translation to make sure I understood the author's point of view When discovering complicated and definitions in dictionaries In dictionaries, a term in the source language may be identified with several different definitions I pondered both definitions for a long time before deciding on the best choice for the Vietnamese theme A useful tip is to evaluate equal meaning based on the content of the document And if you can't make up your mind, don't hesitate to consult a friend or those you trust This is because we don't all make the same decisions the first time around The more we consider the problem, the more complicated it becomes In certain situations, I'll have to depend on both of these hints to make an appropriate recommendation In terms of structures, everything from relative clauses, reduced relative clauses, passive voice forms, and complex structures of multiple subordinate clauses necessitates a clear understanding of grammar So the first thing that helps me understand the structure of each sentence is grammar and syntax Furthermore, concepts of translation must be applied successfully In summary, regardless of how complicated the text is, I maintain patience "Practice makes better," or to use an old English proverb, it is said I know that if I am determined to something, I will still be able to find a way to it Alternatively, if I discover that there is a one-in-a-million possibility that I can anything, something, to prevent what I want from stopping, I Kim Loan23207110111 77 CHAPETR CONCLUSIONS AND SUGGESTIONS 6.1.SUGGESTIONS Since completing my graduation thesis, I'd like to make some suggestions for both language students and teachers 6.1.1 Suggestions for learning As a language student in general and a translation student in particular, I believe that each student can master their own expertise in as many fields as possible and practice often to develop their translation skills To grasp the author's concept and replicate the details in the TL, we must research the grammar, syntax, semantics, and other factors carefully In addition, if you are a language student, I believe you can read more books, novels, blogs, and even magazines in both your native language and the foreign language you are studying This will not only help you learn more valuable information, but it will also help you expand your vocabulary You may reduce the problems you can encounter during the translation process by using a large enough vocabulary As a result, the proposed translation would be more normal and fluid Furthermore, possessing a strong reading comprehension is important for learning English You should work on improving the ability to interpret and comprehend the letter As a result, you will be able to quickly grasp both the general idea and the specific details of the text, making knowledge reproduction easier Being able to write well is also necessary Reading, comprehending, interpreting, and practicing more are all important aspects of being a successful translator 6.1.2 Suggestions for teaching Aside from some recommendations for language students, I'd like to make some recommendations for teaching at Duy Tan University in general and the Faculty of Foreign Language in particular Nowadays, translation and them with several work opportunities As a result, teachers should concentrate on how to teach more efficiently and engagingly Firstly, I believe that translation is a very dull topic, so teachers should develop an engaging environment to draw students in Easy mini games, humorous English songs or quizzes, and group contests will all help students and teachers engage further during each class Also, I believe that certain main topics, such as Translation theory, Translation and 2, Syntax, and Advanced Grammar, should be given more attention because they are extremely useful to students when writing their graduation papers Furthermore, even though students make mistakes, they should be motivated more Students will become more self-assured and courageous as a result, allowing them to learn more successfully A few words of encouragement can mean a lot more to students than a cruel comment In conclusion, I hope that the recommendations above would be beneficial to both students and teachers Since completing this article, I noticed that my translating abilities had greatly improved In the future, this would be a beneficial lesson for me 6.2 CONCLUSIONS After finishing my graduation thesis, I gained a great deal of important and practical knowledge Aside from that, I just had a rudimentary understanding of how to manage my time and make plans for each of my projects Several complicated words or sentences, as well as complex systems, were major roadblocks for me when conducting my studies I wasn't able to accurately translate them all into Vietnamese Again, I
