(1)UNIT : UNDERSEA WORDL Period 66 - E : LANGUAGE FOCUS I Objectives Languages By the end of the lesson, the Ss will be able to: − Distinguish the sounds /iə/, / eə/ and /ʊə/ − Pronounce the words and sentences containing these sounds correctly − Use Conditional type appropriately Skills - Work in pair , work in group to discuss the exercises - Pronounce the words and sentences containing these sounds correctly - Use Conditional type appropriately in communication Attitude - Student have positive and constructive attitude during the lesson (2) II Teaching aids Textbook, handout, board, chalk, projector, computer III Teaching methods - Group work, pair work, individual work, presentation, question and answer IV Anticipated problems - Ss may find it difficult to pronounce the words containing the three sounds /iə/, / eə/ and /ʊə/, so Teacher should prepare a lot of practice V Procedure Class organization - Greeting - Check attention - Ask the date Checking old lesson New lesson Time I.Warm up (7 minutes) Teacher’s activities -Divide the class into teams to play Student’s activities Rhyming groups game - Introduce the rule: -Listen the rule and play game Comments (3) + Divide class into two big groups + T will give some words : Here, square, cheers, poor, actually, where, idea, tour, atmostphere, careful, usual, upstair + Each group has minutes to - Answers: + Here, cheers, idea, atmostphere + Square, where, careful , upstair + Poor,usual ,tour, actually discuss and collect the words that rhyme with together and put them in their own groups + Representative of each group go to board and write answers The group which have more correct answer and write more quickly will win -Ask Ss What sounds are you going to learn today? -Introduce new lesson II.Pronounciation Pronouncing the three sounds (13 minutes) separately -Suggest answers : /iə/, / eə/ and /ʊə/ (4) -T introduces how to pronounce sounds /iə/, / eə/ and /ʊə/: + These sounds are English diphthongs +/iə/: the glide begins from midclose position to open position The lips slightly move from spread to open +/ eə/: the glide begins in the half- open front position, and move in the direction of the more open variety of /ə/ The lips are neutrally open +/ʊə/: the glide begins from midclose position like /ʊ/ to more open like /ə/ The lips are weakly rounded at the beginning of the glide, becoming neutrally spread as the glide -Write down these sounds (5) progresses − T models the three sounds twice or three times − T pronounces the sounds and ask Ss to repeat -Listen to teacher and repeat Pronouncing words containing the sounds − T reads the words once again, each time with a word in each column to -Look at the book, listen to teacher help Ss distinguish the differences between the sounds in the words − T reads the words and ask Ss to repeat them -Repeat after teacher − T asks some Ss to read the words − T gives correction if necessary Reading the sentences with words containing the sounds -Read words (6) -Ask Ss to work in pairs to read and find out the words containing the sounds ( /iə/, /eə/, /ʊə/) in the sentences − T asks Ss to practice the sentences in pairs -Work in pairs − T goes around to provide help − T asks some Ss to read the sentences − T gives feedback III.Grammar: Presentation Conditional − T elicits the form, use of conditional sentence type sentence type by ask Ss : let’s (20 minutes) imagine -Read the sentences (7) + If you were a Bill Gate What -Answer the questions would you ?
