PART A: INTRODUCTION I REASONS FOR CHOOSING THE RESEACH Textbooks developed under the new program have partly met the need to use English in modern society But along with that, there is quite a large amount of knowledge, so it has caused many difficulties with teaching and learning in all high schools all over the country in general and even more difficult with a suburban school like Nguyen Mong Tuan High School Thanh Hoa, where students' learning conditions are still difficult and unconscious In fact, only a few students who are quite active in receiving lessons and giving opinions to build lessons, most of them just obediently listen and copy Sometimes, there are some students expressing boredom and tiredness while sitting in a foreign language, with a time of only 45 minutes for a lesson, the topic is very new and strange, making students easily discouraged II AIMS OF THE STUDY We always concern with the question of how to get an effective and lively teaching time, which is interesting for students, making them develop their active and creative role in comprehending knowledge with a dry vocabulary With the successful application of using pictures in teaching grade 10 English, educational innovation in the 2017-2018 school year has inspired me to continue applying with grade 11 because of the reality in the program of the grade level This is similar to the Grade 10 program For example, lesson 10, grade 11 program: "Nature in danger", using pictures of Cat Ba National Park will help students show their writing The description of Cat Ba is easier and more vivid Or it can be said that the pictures that helped a boring lesson can become an interesting trip Difficult reading, speaking and listening tasks can become fun and rewarding games Students find themselves more vivid about the world thanks to the topics being learned in textbooks They will see that the book is so precious, so rewarding, making them want to learn and find it necessary to learn for themselves III RESEARCH QUESTIONS This study seeks to answer the following research questions: How to get an effective and lively teaching time to guide students, can help students at Nguyen Mong Tuan High School improve their teaching and learning? How to include images and sounds in practical teaching and learning activities that affect students' learning well? IV PARTICIPANTS The subjects selected for the study included more than 80 non-English 11th grade students in grade 11A2, 11A4,11A5 of Nguyen Mong tuan high school with survey questions and teachers currently teaching English More specifically, teachers aged between 30 and 44 Their English teaching experience varies from years to 20 years The study was conducted in the academic year 2018 - 2019 at Nguyet Mong Tuan High School V METHODS OF THE STUDY When researching this topic, I need to the following tasks: -Looking at teaching and learning materials for English, photos and clips - Observing colleagues' classes, exchanging and learning experiences - Check and evaluate the capture results of all students, to have reasonable adjustment -Other data sources come from the tasks in MOET textbook 11 The data analysis is expected to bring reliable results useful for teaching non – major students at Nguyen Mong Tuan Thanh Hoa High School PART B: DEVELOPMENT Theoretical basis In teaching, the acquisition of information has three basic forms: listening, seeing and feeling The combination of these three forms plus information processing will generate three basic learning styles: the viewing space, the hearing and the sense of touch of the body The learner of the style looks at the new information through visualizing the whole concept and in their imaginary thinking are spatial images In learning and awareness of learners, sound has a very important role It helps learners acquire spoken language from teachers and discussion of other students Sound can create a "highlight" to help learners relax and absorb knowledge more effectively Music can enhance visual function, help stabilize heart rate, reduce stress and restore nerves, relieve excitement In the lesson, if the teacher uses a piece of music while the students are stressed, they can make them more excited and absorb the lesson better Especially in video clips that can play the rhythm with the process, the progress of the scenes will make viewers more interested In addition to the cages, you can put real sound like: the sound of animals, the engine's explosion, the murmur of flowing water These real sounds will make it easier for learners to feel the reality, thereby making them remember longer The world of information contains many images, charts and graphs Vivid images, music symbols will affect people's psychology and emotions and create a fundamental atmosphere for life The system of spoken or written language symbols is being intertwined, making the coding system more and more abundant Each symbol system serves as a vehicle for concepts, and is a means for us to communicate to learners When considering the image as part of the teaching process, consider the purpose of creating a useful image The five image goals include: decorative images, symbolic images, images of composition, images of explanations and images of transformation Images along with all other systems have created a foundation for people to understand the content and structure of a theoretical system, helping learners learn and learn better Video clips are often used to visualize physical phenomena By providing illustrations or visual images, events and concepts will appeal to people's emotions in the learning process Using video clips in teaching with teaching strategies and cognitive modeling features integrated in video content can be highly effective From the example of a detail to provide titles; from graphic images, to animations are good in acquiring the content of the lesson The use of video clips can develop understanding and enhance the development of knowledge in learning Well-designed multimedia lessons, using appropriate video clips, can enhance students' positive understanding process The combination of sound or still images or animations helps to acquire human information in a better way The strength of the information provided by video clips (image, sound, sound) facilitates learners through both means: listening and viewing, considering real images or real objects, watching transitions Activate and watch difficult-to-view images in daily life Video clips not only create accessible learning contexts in some situations but also video clips can be rewinded, reviewed often if needed There are many advantages when using video clips in teaching First, the video clip provides a rich source of information with opportunities to pay attention to images with their emotions, typical features, related issues and genetic problems Second, It gives learners the ability to receive events This advantage is especially important for students who are new to using images, and students who not receive their interests Third, video clips help learners improve the skills of identifying audiovisual images instead of the events that teachers offer The video clip images created create the relationship between teachers and learners, causing excitement for learners The video clip provides a social context for learners, it can be used with sound so that learners can hear voices or change sounds, create a good conversation The video clip will be less effective if we provide stately and non-intuitive information; when surveying information or introducing knowledge logic not backed up with real evidence Video clips survey information both listening and looking Therefore these two types must work in harmony to achieve the most effective Excessive loud sounds and narration of dramatic images and excessive use of frames or slides can reduce educational announcements Video clips can be considered as educational tools for all students, it can bring positive effects for each individual student, attracting their attention Visual learners will help to process information and receive knowledge more effectively With the power of sound and words, video clips are very beneficial for learners in the form of listening In addition, the description video clip illustrates the sequence of images and expresses real actions in an emotional way, so it will bring good effect to the learners In addition, in the language lesson, video clips also play a role in projecting and reinforcing the language aspects for learners such as grammar, vocabulary or language functions The selection of effective video clips is an important part of integrating media into the practice and implementation of the role of multimedia in the classroom So when selecting a video clip we have to follow some criterias: - Attractive viewers: Is the video clip good enough to attract students? - Perfection: Can video clips convey enough information or clarify the purpose of selection? - Length: from 30 seconds to 10 minutes depending on the purpose of the lesson - suitable content: video clips must contain content suitable for pupil age, clear and easy to understand and rich in visuals - Video clip genre: can be cartoon, science or natural educational program, TV advertisement, music clip, drama, etc With the content of the program is quite wide with the requirements of innovating teaching methods, the proficient use of support equipment and teaching aids is an indispensable requirement for teachers According to the old teaching method, teachers go to class almost completely guide their subjective lesson In that condition, the learners lose their initiative, gradually rely on the teacher, so it is difficult to remember the lesson, the listening-speaking-reading-writing skills required by learning English are difficult to be show.Most students have a lot of difficulties when the two skills that are most clearly reflected in communication are mostly not well developed, as students not know how to apply sentence structures to specific contexts The main reason is that students lack communication opportunities so communication methods are the most preferred method today With this method, in addition to teachers having to prepare lessons very carefully, it is very important to prepare a visual tool for teaching assistants with special attention to using video clips Learning through video clips is much more effective for being exposed to real, real people.By seeing the situations going on through the screen, students can speculate on situations, understand the movements, clearly hear the sounds, not be "halfway off the shoulder" very beneficial to the weak listener , slow reflexes This helps students understand the lesson right in the classroom, remember longer and apply it to the real situation But the difficulty is that the source of video clips is not available, the teachers are forced to search through the tapes or download from the internet, the video clips are suitable for the lesson content and need to be suitable both in time time because each lesson cannot last more than 45 minutes So it requires teachers to use flexible and clever handling so that the video clips bring information to the students just enough, not excess, right time but not rampant 2.Real situations For basic 11th grade English program at high school , we have tried to find video clips that are suitable to the topic of each unit, especially the difficult points because they are new to students Vietnam in general and more and more new to students in the suburbs The topics we selected in the video clips include: 11th grade English program: Friendship A fire A birthday party and an anniversary party Voluteer work Some popular competitions in Vietnam Lunar new year Over population Nature in danger Cat ba national park Sources of energy 10 Space conquest 11 The wonderful of the world - With the video clips we use in the Warm - up section, teach vocabulary, provide illustrations, make introductions, then lead to lessons or relax - We use these video clips and design activities like the following: Divide the class into small groups, ask the groups to watch the video clip, if any group can guess from behind each photo will score Divide the class into small groups, ask the group to watch the video clip, when finished watching, ask the group representative to rewrite the words in the clips or write additional words about the topic that are not in clip Play the clip, introduce some pictures or lesson content to learn In addition, I can add extensive knowledge related to images in clips or post content Turn on the video clip for the students to watch, then ask them to guess the topic they will study today and lead the new lesson Have the students use the clips, then design their own activities and competitions in the elective periods to increase creativity and ability to work in teams Call two or three representative students of the three groups on the board They are not allowed to watch the video and must go back down for help and explanation from their team Teachers turn on video clips for students in the observation area, then ask the teams to explain to you above the word or topic to study Use in extracurricular activities of professional groups, organizing games such as the shape of word catches, crossword Design specific activities with some typical video clips Unit After the group activities become very active and effective Unit 4: Volunteer work Period 23: Speaking * Purpose of using video clips: - Use in the section Warm-up and After you read - Educate students to love humanity, love and share with everyone * Effect of clips and specific activities: - We use video clip 09- VCD download from source http://www.youtube.com/download video - Show students the clips of volunteer activities, stopping pictures at some sections to teach some phrases in Task - Students use the phrases in Task learned to talk about those volunteer activities Images of video Volunteer work After the lesson, the students were able to follow the requirements in the content of the course and they also said what kind of volunteer activities 10 they have done for their school and where they live, as well as many love activities another prayer that you have made Unit 6: Competition Period 30: Listening * Purpose of using video clips: - Using in Before you listen and After you listen sections - Introduction to Boston Marathon and John McDermott - Educate the passion for sports and practice keeping healthy * Effect of clips and specific activities: - Before listening, ask students to answer two questions: + What is the Boston Marathon? + Who you think you need to take part in the Boston Marathon? We use Video clip 07VCD download sourcehttp://www.youtube.com/download video -Show students the clip and discuss - Stop clip in some parts to teach vocabulary, guide to listening Images of Boston Marathon - Through lessons, students understand more about Boston Marathon 11 from - They feel more in love with sports, and practice to protect their health Unit 7: World population Period 39: Speaking * Purpose of using video clips: - Use in parts of the lesson - Educate students to clearly see that there is no benefit of having too many children * Effect of clips and specific activities: - We use Video clip 12,13, 14,15,16 VCD download from sourcehttp://www.youtube.com/download video (There are many related clips that teachers can choose for each of their classes) - Students discuss the benefits of population explosion - Show the clip and then discuss it Image of video over population - Students watching the clip will discuss Over Population topic with the following issues: Problem, Causes, Solutions Unit 8: Celebration Period 44: Speaking * Purpose of using video clips: - Students know more about some festivals in the world, - Education for children to love the traditional festivals of their homeland * Effect of clips and specific activities: - We use Video clips 18,19,20,21,22 - VCD to download from http://www.youtube.com/download video 12 -Students watch video clips of festivals and answer questions Images of video Celebrations + What is it? (Ask about the clip) + When is it? + What you usually at ? (Tet, Thanksgiving, Valentine’s day, Mid-Autumn Festival) + What is its main purpose? +What are your main activities? … - Through the leson,students feel very interested in the lesson and learn more about some other festivals in the world Unit 10: Nature in danger Period 65: Writing * Purpose of using video clips: - Students know more about Cat Ba National Park - Educate children to love the beauty of their homeland * Effect of clips and specific activities: - We use Video clips 31.32- VCD download from source http://www.youtube.com/download video - Use in Pre-reading section - Introduce students to some wonders of the world - Educate students to love nature, preserve and protect nature * Effect of clips and specific activities: - We use Video clips 40,41,42,43,44 - the basic program, we and our colleagues are well aware of the important supporting role of video clips with Teacher's teaching as well as the acquisition of students' linguistic knowledge We find that when using clips illustrating, leading, supplementing knowledge, make students excited and attract more students Besides, we also encountered some difficulties in finding and selecting the appropriate source of material takes a lot of time Therefore, I would like my colleagues to comment and have additional resources for this 11th disc set so that we can improve it better We hope to be able to replicate this set of video clips for teachers and many students to have better teaching and learning resources in English, helping them to be more confident while using English in life as well as in work because good English will give them good job opportunities in the future II SUGGESTION 1-Advantages: Through the years of teaching the new textbook program, I found: -The text in the textbook is composed according to each major topic clearly, close to daily life The content system is developed in a spiral way to help students expand their knowledge of the world around them, provided giving them knowledge and experience in several areas, of cultural, social, scientific and economic life, to help them master the language -The picture is very beautiful, diverse and rich to help students grasp the lesson easily and create excitement when studying -Book has many lessons to develop skills Especially the textbook is very suitable for the cognitive ability of the students It is the most successful turning point in the path of education reform in general and innovation of teaching methods in particular 2- Difficulties: However, teaching new textbooks to teachers still faces some difficulties such as: - There are no big pictures or illustrations for each lesson, so teachers and students take a lot of time to collect pictures or clips 19 - the school library has only a few advanced books to serve students' learning and reference -
