CÁCH THÊM “-ED” VÀO ĐỘNG TỪ

- Thêm –d vào sau động từ tận –ee –e

Ex: live => lived, agree=> agreed, etc

Ví dụ:

• an aged man /ɪd/:một người đàn ơng có tuổi

• a blessed nuisance /ɪd/:một mối phiền tối phúc

• a dogged persistence /ɪd/:một kiên trì bền bỉ

• a learned professor - the professor, who was truly learned /ɪd/

• a wretched beggar - the beggar was wretched /id/:một người ăn xin khốn khổ

Nhƣng sử dụng nhƣ động từ, ta áp dụng quy tắc thông thƣờng

- Thêm –ed vào động từ lại: Work => worked, learn => learned - Tuy nhiên cần ý sau: a ối với động từ vần, tận nguyên âm + phụ âm (trừ h, w, x, y), phải gấp đôi phụ âm trước thêm –ed:

Ex: fit => fitted, stop => stopped, etc Nhưng: stay ( stayed (vì tận phụ âm y), work ( worked (vì tận phụ âm rk), heat ( heated (vì tận nguyên âm ea)

b ối với động từ có vần có dấu nhấn vần cuối vần có cấu tạo âm trường hợp (a) nói trên, phải gấp đôi phụ âm trước thêm –ed:

Ex: pre’fer => preferred, per’mit =>permitted, etc

c ộng từ tận phụ âm –y, ta chia làm trường hợp:

- trước y phụ âm, ta biến y thành i trước thêm –ed: study => studied (phát âm –ied /id/)

- trước y nguyên âm, ta thêm –ed bình thường: play => played

** Cách sử dụng: - Chúng ta sử dụng khứ đơn để diễn đạt hành động bắt đầu kết thúc thời điểm xác định khứ Và thường với trạng từ: Yesterday, ago, last night/ week/ month/ year/ summer/…… Ví dụ: I saw a movie yesterday

 I didn't see a play yesterday  Last year, I traveled to Japan  Last year, I didn't travel to Korea

 Did you have dinner last night?

 She washed her car  He didn't wash his car

Chúng ta dùng Quá khứ đơn để diễn tả chuỗi hành động hoàn tất khứ, lần lựơt diễn nối tiếp

Ví dụ: I finished work, walked to the beach, and found a nice place to swim
