By the end of the lesson, students can be able to:

Recognize and pronounce the letter Ll and its sound correctly Understand, recognize and say the three Ll words

Write the letter Ll Language focus:

Vocabulary: Lemon, lion, lollipop Sight words:

2 Skill: listening, speaking ,reading , writing 3.Attitude: to teach ps : Lemon, lion, lollipop II Teaching aids:

1 Teacher: - Book, CD, phonics cards, paper including the lyrics of the chant. 2 Student: i-Learn My Phonics Grade 1, Pupil’s book – p.54-55

Have students play a game: toss the envelop

Give instruction for the game The students will get an envelope with the previous flash cards inside While teacher plays the music, student tosses the envelop to the next person When the music stop, the student who is holding the envelop has to pick out one flash card and read aloud If the student reads correctly, continue to toss the envelop If the student reads incorrectly, he/she has to dance following a song then

3.New lesson 30’

Introduction of letter Ll, its sound and how to pronounce the words beginning with Ll 7’

Use a card with letter Ll (or write on board the letter Ll) to introduce to the students the new lesson

Instruct students how to pronounce the letter

name and the letter sound by saying: “This is the letter L /el / The letter L says /l /.”

Repeat several times and check students’ pronunciation (letter L /el / and its sound /l /) Use the phonics cards with lemon, lion, and lollipop, read the words out loud and have students repeat

Use gestures (hand actions) to help students to understand the meanings of the three words lemon: imitate eating a sour lemon

lion: mime roaring

lollipop: imitate licking a lollipop

Stick the cards on board and have students repeat the words chorally several times (in the correct order and then in any order)

Call some students to say the words out loud and correct their mistakes (if any)

Activity: Sit and Stand Game 3’

Show the phonics cards one by one For example, show the card with lion, but

incorrectly say lemon or lollipop, the students will stand; if the words are correctly said, they will stay sitting

Do the same procedure for the other two cards Give feedback

2.Listen and point Colour (Track74): 5’

Have students look at the book and listen to the expression: “Look !A lemon, And a lion, And a lollipop! Hurrah”,

Have students point to the objects when they hear

Have students listen and repeat the words for several times

Give feedback Colour

Ask students to colour the lemon, the lion and the lollipop using any colour they like

Go around the classroom, ask students to name the item they are colouring

Sight words

Read the sight words : look, a, and Ask students to listen and repeat

Activity: run and touch 5’

Divide class into two teams

Put up the phonics cards on the board Call out one of the words

Two students, one from each team, run to the board and touch the cards

The first student to touch the card wins a point for his/her team

The team with the most points wins 1 Chant and show! (Track 75) (5 mins)

Act it out

Read the word and ask students to listen and the gestures for words lemon, lion and lollipop.

Change role: teachers does the actions, students look and call out the words Chant and show

Use the phonics cards on the board and have students sing the chant with lemon Do the same with lion and lollipop

The whole class sings the whole chant Do the chant again using gestures for each word Give feedback

Activity 1: Writing in the air

Show the letter Ll again, have students write the Ll in air with their fingers

Show the phonics cards, ask students to corresponding actions then say the sound of the letter and words

E.g Teacher: Show the ‘lemon’ card Class: “lemon", imitate flying the kite

Have students sing the chant in lesson 1, keep the rhythm by clapping their hands and gesturing

3.New lesson 30’

Encourage the students to point to the picture of the word that the teacher says

Play the CD Have the students listen to the story once

Play the CD again The students listen and point to the pictures of the key words when they hear them in the story

Read the story The students follow their books

Teacher reads the printed words then let the students look at the pictures and say the words

Ask students work in pairs One reads while the other checks, then they change roles Or one reads the printed words while the other looks at the pictures and says the words Activity: Say the Sight Words 3’

Point to and say the sight words: look, at, the, has, a, fly

Have students repeat

Have some students read them aloud Activity: Draw it 5’

Divide the class into two teams

Ask students, one from each team, to come to the board

Name a vocabulary item The students quickly draw it

The student who finishes first wins a point for his/her team

Continue with the other words and remaining students

The team with the most points wins 5 Song (Track 77) 5’

Put up the lemon, lion and lollipop phonics cardson the board

Point to the lionand say: “the lion has a lollipop, hurrah, hurrah!” The students repeat

Follow the same procedure and present the rest of the song

Play the CD The students listen and sing along

Play the CD again The students sing and corresponding actions

Activity: memory game 5’

Put up the phonics cards on the board and ask the students to memorise the order in which the items appear

Remove the phonics cards and ask individuals to name the items in the correct order

Change the order of the phonics cards and repeat the activity
