U MINH THUONG NATIONAL PARK

Situated 50 km Southeast of Rach Gia Town, covering over 80 square km, U Minh Thuong (Upper U Minh) National Park is one of the most preciousflooded forests of South – East Asia It is an ideal destination for ecotourism and an important site for conservation

Here tourists can find hundreds of strange species of plants and animals The wetlands are full of water lilies and a local type of water flower Over 220 species of wild plants here have been recorded Among these is the duckweed, which is rare in South – East Asia, but common at U Minh Thuong

Forest walks will also reveal amazing living areas of rare and endangered animal species especially birds This national park has the highest bird species richness in Vietnam Up to now, over 180 bird species have been recorded including globally threatened or near – threatened ones

Supporting a significant flooded forest, U Minh Thuong is recognized as one of the highest priority sites for wetland conservation in Vietnam The abundance, diversity and magnificence of the water world here make it a “must – be – visited” site to ecotourists from every corner of the world
