Procedure 1 Stages Teaching activities Interaction Warm-up Presentation Practice Production - show the first picture on p.10 and ask: What are they doing? How do they say to each other? - Ask Ss to list the ways that Vietnamese people use to greet each other. Chau chao ong . Em chao anh 1. How to greet people - Ask ss to listen to the tape to recognise the words used to greet people in English. * Note: Hello Hi ( falling tone) - tell the difference between hello and hi * Concept check: - get Ss to say hello/ hi to their classmates. - check in public 2. Introduce oneself - T says: “ C« tªn lµ HiÒn”, and ask ss : “What am I doing?” - Ask Ss to listen to the tape for the first time, then repeat. - draw four faces of Lan, Ba, Nga, Nam on the board and ask Ss to play the roles of them and introduce their names. - elicit the model sentences and write on the board: + I am Lan + My name is Ba - ask ss to work out the forms: -> I am + ten = I m .’ -> My name is + ten = My name s ’ - ask Ss to work in pairs to introduce his/ her name to his/ her partner - check in public - ask Ss to work in pairs to produce what they’ve learnt in a short conversations Ex: T: Hello S: Hello T: My name’s Hien S: I am Son - check in public T - Ss Groupwork T – Ss Pairwork T – Ss Groupwork T - Ss Pairwork Pairwork Vietnamese greetings 2 Monday, August 24 th , 2009 Unit 1 Greetings Section A Hello Lesson 2 (p.3) A 5,6,7,8 A. Set the sence - Draw two faces on the board - Ask Ss to guess what they are talking/ saying - Ask Ss to listen to the tape for the first time to know what they are saying. For the second time, ask Ss to repeat. 3. Structure - elicit the model sentence by asking Ss some questions: + What does Ba ask Lan? + How does lan answer? -> How are you? I’m fine, thanks. And you? ( How are you?) - explain the function of the structure: mainly used to greet peole, not really used to ask about health 4. Vocabulary - introduce some new words . fine (adj) . Mr ( for men) . Miss ( for unmarried women) . Mrs ( for married women) 5. Controlled practice - Ask Ss to adopt the roles of Ba and Lan to practice the dialogue 6. Free practice - Show the two pictures p.12 (part 6) to Ss and ask them to play the roles to make similar dialogues. - Get Ss to practice more freely about themselves in pairs. Procedure: Stages Teaching activities Interaction Warm-up Presentation 1. Revision of “ hello/hi ” - Ask Ss to revise the two ways used to greet others by making short dialogues. 2. Listen and repeat - Ask Ss to listen to the tape to how to greet people in each part of the day.
