Last but not least, I am grateful to my family and my friends whose support and encouragement have been a great source of inspiration for me to complete the thesis. i ABSTRACT Mechanical Engineering is one of the most basic engineering sciences and technical translation makes much contribution to its development. Technical term translation is part of technical translation, so it plays an important role in the development of Mechanical Engineering. The thesis studies the English – Vietnamese translation of terms in the materials for Mechanical Engineering. First, the thesis collects and groups English Mechanical Engineering terms and Vietnamese ones. Next, the thesis works out and compares the English terms with the Vietnamese ones to finds out appropriate Vietnamese equivalents for the English terms. The thesis aims to draw out common translation strategies which can be applied in the English-Vietnamese translation of terms in materials for mechanical engineering. Hopefully, the result of the study would be useful in technical translation especially translation in mechanical engineering, dictionaries editing, English language teaching as well as for the standardization of Vietnamese mechanical engineering terminology. ii . development of Mechanical Engineering.
