PERIOD 1: DIRECTION OF LEARNING AND TESTING Date: 03/09/2006 Time: 45 minutes I: Objectives: 1. Educational aims: - Introduce and direct sts the way to learn and do the tests in English book of grade 10 2. Skills: -Direction of 4 skills: reading , listening , writing , speaking - Guide sts the way to learn Grammar and pronunciation well - Direct sts how to do a test II: Teaching aids: Textbook and workbook III: Procedure: I: Introduce the textbook : - the English book in Grade 10 was compiled according to the basic programme of Education and Training Ministry and based following the theme “ Theme-based” . It includes 16 units and 6 tests . Each unit has it’s own topic 2. Direction of learning : Each unit in this book has 5 parts : reading , listening , speaking , writing and language focus A. Reading: There are some passages about 180 – 200 words . Sts have to read these passages to get information and knowledge which will help them to do following parts . Sts can improve their reading skill through this activity B. Speaking : Sts have to practise speaking according to the topic of the unit and language function . Sts will have a lot of activities such as : discuss in groups , in pairs , play games , watch TV… Sts will improve their ability of speaking English C. Listening: There are many interesting passages or conversations having the main topic of the unit . Sts will improve the listening and understanding skill. Sts will pronouce and use the language structure better D. Writing: There are many writing exercises such as: writing letters , giving directions , describing or writing about a story…… Sts will have to practise writing in many ways . This part will improve their ability of writing English E: Language focus: Including teo main parts: Pronunciation and grammar - Pronunciation : Sts will revise all sounds( vowels , dipthongs and consonants) in the individual word as well as in the sentences . Sts have to pronounce correctly - Grammar: There are main structures and vocabularies which are considerred the most important point of the unit . Sts will have to do many different exercises in different activities as writing or speaking ( discusing in groups or pairs or individually)…. Sts will understand better all learned sentences in the before parts 3. Direction of testing: There are 6 tests in this book After 3 or 2 units sts have to do one test . Sts will check their knowledge themselves through this test . The marks for each part in one test is 2.5 points * Sts can look up vocabularies at the end of this book 1 Period 2: Date: 3/09/2006 Unit1: A day in life of . Part A: Reading Theme: A day in the life of ……… Time : 45 minutes I.Objectives : 1. Educational aim : Sts should understand the context through the passage comprehension about daily activities 2. New words: Words related to daily activies 3. Skills: reading for gist and for specific information II. Method: integrated , mainly communicative III. Teaching aids : pictures and screen IV. Procedure: Teacher’s activities I: Warm up: (3’) - Asks sts to close the books -Gives each sts a handout and explains the way to do 1. teacher a. market 2. doctor b. school 3. worker c. factory - Asks sts : Where does a teacher work ? Where does a farmer work? _ Introduces new lesson : to understand more about the life of a farmer , today we learn Unit 1. II. Pre – reading (7’) 1. Activity 1: - Gives a picture showing a farmer is working on the farm - uses picture to explain new words: peasant , Leading buffalo to the field Pumping water, plot of land - Gives sts handout including many activyties : “singing karaoke, leading the buffalo to the field, getting up early , doing homework, pumping water…………” - Asks sts to work in groups to pick up the activyties of a farmer Sts’s activities - Close the books - Listen to the teacher - Answer: she works at a school - …………… - Look at the picture - Take notes - Work in groups and do t’s request - leading the buffalo to the field - getting up early……… - Close the books 2 - helps sts - Checks the result of each group 2. Activity 2. - Aks sts to close the books - Introduces the context : Mr Vy and Mrs Tuyet are farmers . Now guess : What do they do everyday ? - Gives sts handout including many activities and explain sts to do - Checks - Introduces the passage : to check the right information , please the text III. While reading : (20’) - Plays the casserre player twice 1. Task 1: - Asks sts to scan for about 3 ‘ and pick up the right information - Asks sts to discuss in pairs - Asks sts to retell in front of the class - Checks and corrects 2. Task 2: - asks sts to read all questions - Asks sts to read the passage again - Aks sts to work in pairs to ask and answer the questions - Checks and corrects 3. Task 3: - Explain the request of task 3 - Asks sts to work in groups -Asks sts to read again the passage and fill the right information in the table IV: After reading : (10’) - Asks sts to close the books V: Homework: (5’) sts to write a short passage about daily ruotines of their parents (50 words ) - Listen - Guess the activities which Mr Vy and Mrs Tuyet do everyday by ticking (*) into the right column - Listen and open the book to read the passage - Read in silence according to cassette player , notice new words - scan for information - Discuss in pairs - Tell the keys : 1.rings/ 2. to prepare - Read questions - Read again the passage - Work in pairs to ask and answer - Listen to the teacher - Work in groups - Read the passage and fill in the table - Close the books - work in groups and talk about Mr Vy and Mrs Tuyet’s daily routies Write a passage about daily ruotines of father or mother sts to work in groups and talk about Mr Vy and Mrs Tuyet’s daily routines 3 Period 3: Date: 3/09/2006 Unit1: A day in life of . Part B: Speaking Theme: A day in the life of…………… I. Objectives: 1. Educational aims: Sts should be able to speak about their daily activities and other’s 2. New words: Words related to daily routines 3. Skills: Fluency in expressing opinions and making suggestions about daily activities II. Method: Integrated , mainly communicative III. Teachin aids: Pictures showing many different daily activities IV: Procedure: Teacher’s activities I. Warm up: (3’) - Asks sts to close the books - Gives a table with names of 10 subjects Subjects are learnt at school 1. Civic education 2. technology 3. maths 4. physisc ……… Aks sts to study all the subjects about 3’ - Takes out the table and requests sts to retell the words they can remember . Who can tell the most words , will win - checks - Introduces new lesson II. Pre - speaking: (7’) Review the way to tell about time - Asks sts to close the books - Give sts handout and explains the way to do -Match a number in A with a suitable phase in B. Objectives : 1. Educational Aim : Help students listen and understand about one’s daily routine. 2. New words : Words related to daily activities 3. Skill: - Listen and tick. - Listen and choose: T or F statement II. Method: Integrated , mainly communicative III. Teaching aids: Pictures showing daily activities and cassette player IV. Procedure. New words: words and verbs in past simple tense 3. Skills: Writing a passage teling about an experience II: Method: Integrated , mainly communicative III. Teaching aids : Some pictures showing a hotel or airport IV. Procedure. Teacher’s activities I. Warm up (3’) - Gives some questions 1. Have you ever heard a frightened story or an interesting story ? 2. What did it happen ? 3. Where did it happen ? 4. How did you fell about that ? - Checks - Explains again II. Task 1: (12’) - Asks sts to open the books - Asks sts to read the passage - Explains some new words if they need - - Asks sts to underline the verbs in past simple tense and advers of time : at first, then, at last . - Walks around to help Students. - Check again and correct. - Checks and corrects Gives notes: We use simple past tense to tell about a story happened in the past III. Task 2: (15) - Asks sts to work in groups to identify the events and the conclusion of the story above - Asks sts to report their results Ask Students from each group to report their results. - Correct if necessary.
