Class description - Level: 12 th form student, intermediate - Class size: 42 female students of class 12D1, Yen Hoa high school 2. Time 90 minutes 3. Objectives: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to : - Read for specific information or details - Improve their skill of skimming - Know more about water sports 4. Skills: Scanning, skimming, speaking 5. Teaching aids: Text book, hand outs, chalk, picture 6. Procedure: Time Procedure Aims/ 1 Arrangeme nt I. Warm-up 3’ Game: Slow Reveal: Wind Surfing - Put a picture in stages (allow sts to see only part of it). At each stage, ask sts to identify qhat they can see and qhat the whole picture might be. - Encourage differences of opinion and promote discussion. - The 1 st sts to call out what the picture is wins the game. Transition: Wind surfing is a water sport. There are many other water sports and we will get to know about them in unit 12. Sts guess the picture and answer questions II. Pre- Reading 10’ 5’ 1. Matching - Tell sts to look at the pictures and match them with their names. - Call on sts to give answers and check with the class. Expected answers: 1E, 2H, 3D, 4I, 5C, 6J, 7F, 8A, 9B, 10G Sts do task a, individually and compare with their partners 2. Which sport, which equipment? - Ask sts to work in pairs and discuss which sport needs the equipment mentioned. - Call on sts to give opinions and check with the class. (Task a, p. 148) - Tell sts to skim the text and say where they are most likely found. - Have sts to work with a partner and compare answers. - Call on sts to give their answers. - Invite the class to give opinions and go over the answer with the class. - Expected answer: In a leaflet issued by the Red Cross Sts do the task and note down the correct answers 2. Checking the correct box for the tips (Task b, p. 149) - Ask sts to scan the extracts about the precautions for safety of the sports and then check the correct box. - Tell sts to work with a partner and compare answers. - Call on sts to say which sport each precaution í for. - Go over the answers with the class.
