Class description - Level: 12 th form student, intermediate - Class size: 42 female students of class 12D1, Yen Hoa high school 2. Time 45 minutes 3. Objectives: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to : - Write an instructions for something - Improve their writing skill 4. Skills: giving instruction for doing a sport 5. Teaching aids: Text book, chalk, handouts. 6. Procedure: Time Procedure Aims/ 1 Arrangemen t I. Warm-up 5’ Game: Name the sport - Divide sts into 2 big groups, A and B - Tell sts you are going to give them some cues about certain sports. If they can call out the name of the sports on the 1 st cue, they score 3 points, on the 2 nd cue, 2 points, and the 3 rd cue, 1 point. -The group that scores more points í the winner. 1. A. it is ball sport (Basket ball) B. you use your hand to throw the ball into basket. C. you need to throw the ball into a basket 2. A. it is a water sports (Swimming) B. it does not require any special equipment. C. you just need a swimsuit -T ask if sts know how to practice these sports. -Transition: Today we will practice writing a set of instructions for a sport Sts guess the sports II. Pre- Writing 7’ 1. Complete the instructions (Task a, p. 151) - Ask sts to read the sample instructions for diving and fill in each blank with a suitable word. - Tell sts to compare answer in pairs - Call on sts to give answers by reading out the complete instructions. - Invite class opinions and comments 2. Recognize verbs forms and sequences markers - Tell sts to read through the instructions and underline the verb forms used: get up, keep, bring, bend, should be. - Ask sts what the form of verb is: imperative form, Should+ V - Ask sts list out the words that help them know the sequence or order to follow: First, next, then, after that, finally. - Tell sts it’s common in giving instructions to use imperative Sts do task a, with their partners 2 verbs and sequence markers to make things clear and easy to follow III. While- writing 8’ 8’ 7’ 1. Ordering and making a full sentences (Task b, p. 152) - Ask sts to work in pairs, look at the pictures and prompts given for the instructions for backstroke start techniques. - Tell sts to put the pictures in the correct order of the action, and then make full sentences from the prompts provided to complete the instructions. - Have sts compare answers in groups. - Choose a sts to write on the board. - Go over the answer with whole class. 2. Write instructions from cues - Tell sts to look at the pictures and the cues given; then make full sentences from the cues to finish the instructions for breaststroke start techniques. - Get sts to compare answers with partners - Choose a sts to write the complete instructions on the board fro the class to check together. Answer: Here are some steps for breaststroke start techniques in swimming First enter the water Second, keep your arms bent before you and your head forward before leaving the block. Then stretch your arms straight downward body nearly on a horizontal line Next, fly your arms and head, body, and legs straight in water. Finally pull your arms backwards to increase forward speed 3. Writing instructions for a water sport Sts do the tasks in the text book 3 - Put sts in groups - Give each group a set of information for a water sport. - Tell them to base on that information to write their own instructions for that sport. - Remind sts to use verb form and the sequences markers. - Go round to monitor and give help when necessary Sts work in groups to write their own instructions IV. Post- Writing 10’ - Peer correction - Call the representatives from 2 groups to write their instructions on board. - Ask sts to give comments and correction - Give feedback and comments V. Home work - Learning from peers: tell sts to exchange writings with partners and read at home. 4 .
