PREPOSITIONS OF TIME

A/ Prepositions of time (giới từ chỉ thời gian)

AT được dùng với thời gian trong ngày

Example:

at 5 o’clock : vào lúc 5 giờ - I get up at 5 o’clock

at 11.45 : vào lúc 11 giờ 45 phút

at midnight : vào lúc nữa đêm

at lunchtime : vào giờ cơm trưa

at sunset : vào lúc hoàng hôn

at dawn : lúc bình minh

at night : vào ban đêm

ON được dùng với ngày tháng,các ngày đặc biệt,ngày trong tuần

Example:

on Friday : vào ngày thứ sáu - I come back home on Friday.

on 12 March 1994 : vào ngày 12 tháng 3 năm 1994

on Christmas Day : vào ngày Lễ Giáng Sinh

on my birthday : vào ngày sinh nhật của tôi

IN được dùng với những khoảng thời gian lớn hơn (chẳng hạn như months,years,seasons)

Example:

in October : vào tháng 10 - I was born in October

in 1978 : vào năm 1978

in the 18 th century : vào thế kỷ 18

in the past : trong quá khứ

in winter : vào mùa đông

in 1970s : vào những năm 1970

in the Middle Ages : vào thời Trung cổ

in the future : trong tương lai B/ AT được dùng trong những thành ngữ:

At the weekend / at weekend : vào ngày nghỉ cuối tuần - Will you be here at weekend?

At Christmas / at Easter : vào Lễ Giáng sinh - Do you give me presents at Christmas? (nhưng On Christmas Day)

At the moment / at present : vào lúc này - Mr Ben is busy at the moment.

At the same time : cùng 1 lúc - Liz and I arrived at the same time.

At Easter : vào Lễ Phục Sinh - What do you do at Easter?

(nhưng On Easter Day)

C/ Chú ý:

1 In the morning(s) / in the afternoon(s) / in the evening(s)

- I do exercise in the morning.

2 On Friday morning(s) / On Sunday afternoon(s) / On Monday evening(s)

- I come here on Friday morning.

3 Ta không dùng at / on / in trước last / next / this / every / today / tomorrow / yesterday

- I will see you next Friday.

4 In a few minutes (trong ít phút nữa) / in a moment (ngay bây giờ ) / in six months

- The train will be leaving in a few minutes.

- She will be here in a moment.

5 On time (đúng giờ) > < Late (trễ)

- The 11.45 train left on time.

6 In time (đúng lúc,kịp giờ) > < Too late (quá trễ)

- Will you be home in time for dinner.

7 At the end (of something) (vào cuối ) > < At the beginning (of something) (vào đầu )

* At the end of the month (vào cuối tháng)

* At the end of January (vào cuối tháng Giêng)

- I am going away at the end of January.

8 In the end (cuối cùng,sau cùng) > < At first (lúc đầu,thoạt đầu)

9 During (trong suốt khoảng thời gian,lúc)

- He died during the night.

10 For (trong khoảng thời gian sự việc diễn ra)

- We’ve been living here for twenty years.

11 Since (từ điểm thời gian có sự việc xảy ra)

- I have been waiting here since ten fifteen.

12 Before (trước khi)

- She regularly goes for a run before breakfast.

13 After (sau khi)

- I’ll see you after the meeting.

14 Till / Untill (đến,cho đến khi)

- He’ll be at work until / till half past five.

15 Up to (đến,cho đến)

- Up to now he is been quiet.

16 Between (giữa 2 khoảng thời gian,ngày,tháng )

- The office will be closed between Christmas and New Year

ADJECTIVES + PREPOSITIONS 1/ FOR được dùng sau các tính từ:

Eager: hăm hở Famous: nổi tiếng Sorry: lấy làm tiếc Ready: sẳn sàng Enough: đủ Grateful: biết ơn Responsible: có trách nhiệm Thankful: nhờ vào

Example: He says that he is sorry for what he did.

2/ WITH được dùng sau các tính từ:

Terrified: sợ Proud: tự hào Jealous: ghen tị Full: đầy Short: thiếu Tired: chán

4/ TO được dùng sau các tính từ:

7/ IN được dùng sau các tính từ:

Interested: quan tâm,thích Fortunate: may mắn Honest: chân thật Example: I am interested in reading books.

8/ ON được dùng sau các tính từ:

Dependent: phụ thuộc Keen: ham mê Intent: chăm chú Example: I am not dependent on my parents.

9/ ABOUT được dùng sau các tính từ:

Curious: tò mò Excited: hứng thú Upset: buồn bực Doubtful: nghi ngờ Worried: lo lắng Angry: giận

Nervous:lo lắng,bồn chồn Happy: vui mừng
