I Pre-teach vocabulary : festival (n): (to) rub : xát, cọ xát (mime) (to) yell : hét to, la to (cổ vũ) (synonym: (to) shout) vỏ trêu (explanation) thúc dục (trans) (n): tranh tài (translation) : tham gia vào husk (to) urge competition (to) participate in (n): : lễ hội (examples) (synonym: (to) take part in) judge (n): giám khảo, trọng tài *Checking vocabulary : (translation) What and Where II Pre-Reading : - Ask ss to close their books - Tell the Ss that they are going to read about a rice-cooking festival, and this festival has competitions: water-fetching, fire-making and rice-cooking - Put sentences on the board Two sentences relate to each competition Ss work in pairs and predict if the sentences are about the water- fetching competition, the fire-making competition or the rice-cooking competition + Rubbing pieces of bamboo together (fire- making) + There’s a river about one kilometer away (water- fetching) + It’s made in traditional way (fire- making) + The most delicious one is the winner (rice- cooking) + Each runner must take a bottle (water- fetching) + The teams remove the husk (rice- cooking) III Listen and read: Read and check predictions: - Read the dialogue aloud once or play the tape Then allow Ss to read it silently for about minutes - Ss correct their predictions *Answer keys: (…………) True or False statements: - Put the true or false sentences on the board - Ss read again and check the boxes - Ask some Ss to come to the board and write the corrected sentences - Chck and correct *Answer keys: F Two team members take part in the water-fetching contests (ONE team member) F One person has to collect four water bottles (ONE water bottle) T The fire is made without matches or lights F Pieces of wood are used to make fire (pieces of BAMBOO) F In the final contest, the team members taste the rice (The JUDGES) T The grand prize is given to the team with the most points IV Post-reading: - Present compound adjectives: N + V-ing Eg : N + V-ing -> Compound adjectives car making car-making rice exporting rice-exporting flower arranging flower-arranging - Ask Ss to give some more examples - Ask Ss to role-play the dialogue V Homework: - Learn by heart vocabulary - Do exercises in workbook - Make compound adjectives - Prepare for next lesson: Speak + Listen UNIT 13 : FESTIVALS Lesson 2/78: Speaking + Listening A- Aims: By the end of the lesson Ss will be able to talk about their preparetions for a special event (Tet holiday ) and listen for details * Lexical item : Pomegranate , peach plosssom , marigolds , dried watermelon , spring rolls * Skill : Speaking and listening * Techniques: Practice in pairs *.Teaching aids: cassette, tape *.Anticipated problem : Some Ss will get difficulty in speaking B- Contents : *Warmer : T asks Ss some questions : ?
