LESSON PLAN UNIT 13: FILMS AND CINEMA Teacher: Tru Thi Anh Class: 10A10 – 10A11 Date: 09/03/2016 Tan Lap high school I, AIMS: Guiding Ss how to express and to present their opinions II, OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, Ss are able to: - Collect some popular kinds of film Talk about the kind of film Ss enjoy, their feeling and how much they enjoy it Give their preferences for films Talk about the film Ss have seen III, TIME: 45 minutes IV, METHOD: Communication V, ANTICIPATED PROBLEMS: - Ss may make noise in class Some Ss may be confused with some kinds of film Some Ss may be shy when they present their opinions VI, MATERIALS: Textbook, handout VII, TEACHING PROCEDURE: Duratio n mins Stage Teacher’s Activities Student’s Activities Warm-up -Ss work individually -Ss tell their friends and T what film they like mins Task -T asks the whole class some question relating to the topic “film” such as what kind of film, how often Ss see film… -T calls some Ss to present -T asks Ss to work in pairs to talk about how much they like each kind of film Then Ss put a tick in the table, task 1, page 134 -T gives Ss an example: -Ss have a look at the handout -Ss work in pairs A: How much you like science fiction film? Q:1 I like/enjoy it very much I don’t like it very much -T calls some couples to present their reports -Ss present 10 mins Task -T guides Ss how to ask about one’s opinion and how to express their own ideas or how to agree/disagree with someone -Ss listen to T -Ss copy down the structures on their own notebooks 1.To ask about one’s opinion: What you think of + N/Ving? To give ideas: I find it/them + Adj Agree/Disagree: I don’t agree with you I agree with you -T asks Ss to work in groups of four -T gives each group one handout (with a table) -T asks Ss to make questions and answer with the example given on the handout T ask to choose any kind of film they want to talk about ( one or two kinds of film) -T gives Ss some adjectives to describe the film and an example: -Ss work in groups of four -Ss ask their friends, the others answer and one S fill in the blank of table EX: A: What you think of horror films? B: Oh, I find them really terrifying C: I don’t quite agree with you I find them very interesting Task 2: Ask your friends in your group how he/she feels about each kind of film (Using Adjectives beside the -One member of the table) Fill your friend names and fill their answers in the right column Kind of Friend film Detective Science fiction group should present their group’s report Friend Love story Cartoon War Thriller Action ADJ: Interesting Moving Good fun Violent 5.Boring Exciting Terrifying -Then T calls some groups to present their reports mins Task -T gives Ss the usage of the verb prefer S + Prefer + N/Ving to N/Ving: like smt1 better than smt2 -Ss listen to the T -Ss take notes on their notebooks -T explains that people use the verb prefer to express their preferences for something -T gives the example: I prefer science fiction films to detective films -T asks Ss to work in pairs to ask the preference for films and asks Ss to use the cues and the example on the textbook Cues: -Thrillers or science fiction films -Horror films of detective films -Love story films or cartoon films -Cartoon films or science fiction films -Ss work in pairs to find out their friends’ preferences for films Example: A: Which you prefer, detective films or science fiction films?
