INFORMATION ON NEW CONCLUSIONS OF DOCTORAL THESIS (Information will be posted on the Website) Name of Thesis: Study on utilization of Vietnamese Chitosan as Antibacterial agent for Cotton fabric Specialization: Textile – Garment Technology Code No.: 62540205 Name of PhD Student: Luu Thi Tho Advisors: Assoc Prof Dr Vu Thi Hong Khanh Dr Nguyen Van Thong Training Institution: Hanoi University of Science and Technology Summary of new contributions of the Thesis The thesis systematically investigate the influence of molecular weight of chitosan on antibacterial capacity of cotton fabric treated with chitosan: source of chitosan, molecular weight of chitosan, crosslinking agents This fractionation technique for polymer using ultra filter device has been first time applied in Vietnam to prepare low molecular weight chitosan fragments with narrow distribution of molecular weight in order to use as anti-bacterial finishing agents for cotton fabrics The Vietnamese industrial grade chitosan with low degree of deacetylation (DD) about 72,2% and product after irradiation (chitosan with DD of about 75,25 – 77,03%) and common cross linking agents (CA Arkofix NET) were used to antibacterial treatment for cotton fabric, there are the high effect: High bactericidal capacity of treated fabric after treatment, and after 25 washing cycles, treated fabric was also bactericidal Initially observed high bactericidal ability of fabric treated with chitosan after irradiation compared with the published results using chitosan with a similar molecular weight It was evaluated the effects of molecular weight and crosslinking agent to the amount of chitosan on fabric after multible washing cycles by adsorption amount of acid dyes on fabrics and total N content of fabric It was evaluated the effects of two crosslinking agents (CA and Arkofix NET) and two types of chitosan (before irradiation (187kDa) and after irradiation (2,6kDa)) on antibacterial activity, antibacterial durability and physical properties of fabrics Since then lets create antimicrobial fabric suitable to use requirements Advisors (Signature) Hanoi, Day 09 Month 12 Year 2015 PhD Student (Signature)
