SEQUENCE OF TENSES (SỰ PHỐI HỢP CÁC THÌ) Trong câu có hai mệnh đề trở lên, động từ phải có phối hợp I Sự phối hợp động từ mệnh đề (main clause) mệnh đề phụ (subordinate clause): MAIN CLAUSE SUBORDINATE CLAUSE Simple present Present perfect Present tenses Simple present Present continuous Simple future/ Near future Simple past (nếu có thời gian xác định khứ) Simple past Past perfect Past tenses Past continuous Simple past Would + V(bare-inf) Was/were going to + V(bare-inf) Simple present (nếu diễn tả chân lý, thật hiển nhiên) Present perfect Simple present Past perfect Simple past Ex People have said that London has fog She says she has finished her homework already She said she would visit me again Tom says he will visit me again They had done that was necessary He says he was born in 1980 My teacher said that the sun rises in the East Mary said that she was cooking then II Sự phối hợp động từ mệnh đề mệnh đề trạng ngữ thời gian (adverbial clause of time): MAIN CLAUSE ADVERBIAL CLAUSE OF TIME Present tenses Present tenses Past tenses Past tenses Future tenses Present tenses Note: - Present tenses: tất tùy theo ngữ cảnh câu - Past tenses: tất khứ tùy theo ngữ cảnh câu - Future tenses: Tất tương lai tùy theo ngữ cảnh câu Ex: He never goes home before he has finished his work I often read a newspaper while I am waiting for the bus We will go as soon as you have finished your work It was raining hard when I got there The train had already left when i arrived at the station Please wait here until I come back  Mệnh đề trạng ngữ thời gian thường bắt đầu với liên từ thời gian sau: - when/ as: - until/ til: - just as: - whenever: - while: - no sooner than: - before: trước - hardly when: khó - after: sau - as long as: chừng nào, - as soon as: sau - since: từ Note: Không dùng tương lai ( future tenses) mệnh đề trạng ngữ thời gian ( thay )  Trong trường hợp dùng từ nối since lưu ý: S + V(present perfect/ present perfect continuous) + since + S + V( simple past) Ex: She has played the piano since she was ten years old He has been studying English since he came here CÁC TRƯỜNG HỢP KHÁC CỦA CÂU ĐIỀU KIỆN Trong mệnh đề điều kiện, ta thay liên từ If Unless Unless = If not: không, Ex: If you don’t study hard, you’ll fail in the exam  Unless you study hard, you’ll fail in the exam If she doesn’t water these trees, they will die  Unless she waters these trees, they will die Note: Khi đổi câu điều kiện If sang Unless, nhớ lưu ý không đổi mệnh đề If thể khẳng định sang thể phủ định mà phải đổi mệnh đề theo thể ngược lại Ex: If I have time, I’ll help you  Unless I have time, I won’t help you If we had more rain, our crops would grow faster  Unless we had more rain, our crops wouldn’t grow faster CÔNG THỨC TỔNG QUÁT IF CLAUSE  UNLESS Thể phủ định  Thể khẳng định Thể khẳng định  Thể khẳng định (đổi động từ mệnh đề sang thể ngược lại) Ta diễn tả câu điều kiện mà không cần dùng If hay Unless cách đảo ngữ sau should, were had Lưu ý không làm với động từ khác Ex: If you should run into Peter, tell him he owes me a letter  Should you run into Peter, tell him he owes me a letter If they were stronger, they could lift the table  Were they stronger, they could lift the table Provided (that), On condition (that), As long as, So long as (miễn là, với diều kiện là), Supposed, Supposing (giả sử như), In case (trong trường hợp), Even if (ngay khi, dù cho) dùng thay cho If câu điều kiện Ex: In case I forget, please remind me of my promise  ... played the piano since she was ten years old He has been studying English since he came here CÁC TRƯỜNG HỢP KHÁC CỦA CÂU ĐIỀU KIỆN Trong mệnh đề điều kiện, ta thay liên từ If Unless Unless = If...
