Aims and Objectives By the end of this lesson, the students will be able to: - Know how to pronounce the sound /g/ and /k/ correctly - Master the usage of will. - Distinguish the difference between will and be going to II. Ways of working Teacher-whole class, pair work, individual work and group work. III. Teaching aids - Textbook “English 10”, pictures, blackboard, chalk. IV. Anticipated problems - Students might have difficulty in distinguish the difference between “will” and “be going to”. V. Procedure Time Teacher’s activities Students’ activities 1’ 3’ 10’ 30’ Greetings Check students’ attendance and lesson preparation I. Warm-up - Call 4 students to use their body language to describe the given words. - Other students will guess the words. Words: kick, goal, gun, dog. II. Pronunciation: a. Write two sounds on the board and pronounce them clearly twice, then ask students to repeat. - Tell students how to pronounce these sounds accurately. / k / : a voiceless sound / g / : a voiced sound - Ask students to work in pairs to read the words so that they can check for each other. - Ask two students to read again and give remarks. b. Practice these sentences. - Ask students to read each question and then ask students whether it is /k/ or /g/ - Ask students to practice pronouncing at home. III. Grammar 1. will vs. be going to: - Give the examples to help students distinguish the difference between “will” and - Students try to describe the given words so that their classmate can guess. - Write down two sounds. - Listen to the teacher and repeat. / g / / k / group club game kick together cup - Read these words in pairs and check for their partners. - Read sentences exactly. - Copy down examples on the notebook. “be going to” Eg: - “I like this jacket” - “I will give it to you” - This summer holiday, we are going to Ha Long Bay - From 2 examples, tell the difference between “will” and “be going to” + Will: to talk about the future and the decision is made at the moment of speaking. + Be going to: to talk about intentions/ decisions which are made before we report them. - Translate into Vietnamese. - Ask students to read the 2 example on the book and tell about the difference between them. E.g: A: Why are you turing on the TV? B: I’m going to watch the news. A: Oh, I’ve just realised I haven’t got any money. B: Haven’t you? Well, don’t worry. I’ll lend you some. - Listen to students and give feedback if necessary. - Ask students to do task 1. - Call 2 students to write the answers on the board. - Check and give mark. 2. Will: making predictions - Give an example so that students can find out the usage of will E.g: Mary’s been studying very hard for her exams. I’m sure she’ll pass the exams easily. - Ask a student to read the example and tell the teacher the use of will in this situation. => will is used to talk about what the speaker predicts about the future - Ask students to do Ex2 individually and then share the answers with their friends. - Ask two students to write their answers on the board. - Check and give mark. 3. Will: making offer - Give an example so that students can revise the use of will: - Tell the difference between “will” and “be going to” Key: 1. I'll get 2. I'm going to wash 3. are you going to paint 4. I'm going to buy 5. I'll show 6. I will have 7. I will do Key: 1. he will help 2. won't lend me 3. it will rain 4. will be short-sighted 5. will be sunburned 6. won’t like 7. I will fail. . - Do the exercise in pairs. Key: 1. I will make you a glass of orange juice. 2. I'll open it. 3. I'll lend you some. 4. I will give you 5. I will bring it for you. - Read the example on the book. E.g: A: “It’s so hot in this room!” B: I’ ll open the window. => will is used to make offer/ to show willingness - Ask students to do Ex 3. IV. Homework - Review grammar in this lesson. - Prepare for test yourself V. Extra activities: Play game 1. Rule - Give the words beginning with letters in the alphabet. - It’s necessary to pronounce the words exactly - If any group can’t find word, the group will be out. 2. Let’s play - Divide the class into 4 groups and play game. - Students listen to the rule of the game. - Ask questions if any. - Play game. VI.
