Unit 8: The Story of My Village (continued) Lesson 3 – Listening Date: 03/12/2009 Class: 10A1 – K64 School: Luong Ngoc Quyen senior high school Coach: Ngo Kim Thuy Trainee: Bui Thi Thu Huong I. Objectives: - By the end of the lesson, students are able to know the changes in a small town on the South coast of England. 3. Skills: - Listening: choose True/ False statements, fill in the gaps with one suitable word, answer the questions - Speaking: Discuss the changes in Ss' hometown/ home village III. Teaching aids: - Board, chalk, textbook, tape, cassette. IV. Procedure: Time Teacher’ Activities Students’ Activities 8’ - Greeting: - Good morning. - Introduces Mrs. Thuy - Ask the monitor for the number of Ss: Who is absent today? I. Warm-up: - Ask Ss to play game Whispering. Instruction: - We work in-group; 5 pupils will form a group. - You should listen and repeat exactly the sentence I give you for the pupil next to you, one by one to the last, and then the last pupil will write down this sentence on the board. - The winner is group has more exactly sentence on the board. - Are you ready? Now we will start the game. - Greeting - Clap their hands. - The monitor answers: There is/ There are… student(s) absent today. - Play game: Whispering - Listen carefully to the instruction. 10’ - The first pupil of 2 groups comes here to receive the sentence for your group, and remember, speak very softly. - And the winner is group….because they have more sentences that are right. - Ask Ss the topic of the lesson. - Guide to the lesson: And now we will come back to the lesson. Who can tell me what is the topic of our lesson today? - Write the topic onto the board. Before you listen: Work in pairs. Look at the two pictures of the same town. Discuss the differences between them. - Ask Ss to works in pairs to look at the two pictures of the same town and discuss the differences between them. + Are these two pictures the same or difference? + Which is more beautiful? + Compare the two pictures. -The first pupil of 2 groups receives the sentence from Ts for their group and starts to play game. GIVEN SENTENCES: Better late than never. A miss is as good as a mile. Don't cry because it is over, smile because it happened. - Clap their hands. - Answer: The topic of our lesson to day is “The changes in the hometown”. - Look at the pictures and discuss the differences between them. Answer suggested: + They are different. + The second picture is more beautiful + Compare: In the past, the town used to have only small houses, but now, there are many buildings, hotels and stores in there. In the past, there were cows grazing on the field, but now, there is no field and cow. In the past, the road was narrow, but now, the road is wide. 18’ + You have seen the changes of a hometown in 2 pictures, and now we are going to do some tasks about the changes in the hometown. + To help you listen to the tape easily I will introduced some new words: Vocabulary: coast (n) [koust] crowded (adj) ['kraudid] suburb (n) ['sʌbə:b] resurface (v)[,ri:'sə:fis] - Provide examples E.g., There are only few coasts in Vietnam having white sand. The streets of Hanoi are always crowded. Dong Anh is one of the suburbs of Hanoi. Thang Long Bridge are resurfacing work on the motor-way - Guide Ss to read the new words While you listen: - Now, listen to the changes in another hometown and do the tasks follow. Task 1: Decide if the statements are True or False according to the task. - Play the tape twice for Ss to listen to mark T/F. T F 1. Popffero is on the west coast of England.   2. Popffero used to be a tourist report.   3. The town no longer has its old atmosphere.   4. There are more green trees in the town now than there used to be.   5. Everybody in the town likes its   In the past, there were many trees, but now, there are few trees in the town. - Pay attention to the new words and their examples. - Copy it to the notebook. - Read aloud new words. - Listen to the tape twice and mark T/F Answer suggested: T F 1. Popffero is on the west coast of England.   2. Popffero used to be a tourist report.   3. The town no longer has its old atmosphere.   4. There are more green trees in the town now than   7’ changes. - Play the tape again for Ss to listen to check their answers. - Provide the correct answers Task 2: Listen to the talk again, and write in the missing words. - Ask Ss to listen to the talk again and fill in the missing word(s) in 3 minutes. Discuss the changes in your own hometown or home village - Ask Ss to discuss the changes in their own hometown or home village in 4’ - Ask some pairs of Ss to discuss aloud there used to be. 5. Everybody in the town likes its changes.   - Listen to the tape again to check. - Check their answers again. - Listen to the talk again and fill in the missing word(s) in 3 minutes.
