Period: 31 - SKILLS 1 : READING AND SPEAKING * Aim: - Helping students practise reading and speaking about good things and bad things in a neighbourhood, about how to find the ways to some where in the neighbourhood. * Objective: - By the end of the lesson, students will be able to talk about different places and show directions to these in a neighbourhood. * Teaching aids: - Pictures, text book,lesson plan, projector. * Procedure: Time Teacher’s Activities Ss’ Activities Contents 2’ 5’ 8’ GREETING: I. WARM-UP - Ask some students to play chain game - Say about your neighbourhood with adjectives -Where do you think Khang’s neighbourhood is? What do you think about it? Do you like living there? Why? Why not? Look at the picture: ( Khang’s blog) What is it? Whose blog is it? What did he write about? II. NEW LESSON : A/ Reading: Activity 1: 1. Find these words in Khang’s blog. What do they mean? - Match the words with their meaning. - Students speak one by one -answer. -Look at the screen. - Read the text silently, then say: where they are and what they mean. -Do as direct - Copy new words.  S1: In my neighbourhood, there’s a big bank.  S2: In my neighbourhood, there’s a big bank and a beautiful park.  S3: In my neighbourhood, there’s a big bank, a beautiful park and a crazy hotel. a big bank, a beautiful park, a crazy hotel , a wide stadium, a historic museum, a good school, a kind neighbour It’s blog. It’s Khang’s blog. He wrote bout his neighbourhood. A/ Reading: I/ New words: 1/suburb (n): the area near/ around the city. 2/backyard (n): the yard behind the house. 3/dislike (v): do not like. 4/incredibly (adv) : hard to believe/ very 5/beach (n): a (sandy) shore of the sea, the area next to the sea. Read Khang’s blog. Then answer the question: 1. Where is Khang’s neighbourhood? 2. Why is his neighbourhood great for outdoor activities? 3. What are the people there like? 4. Why are the streets busy and crowded? - T. Gives some more questions Activity 3: 3. Read Khang’s blog again and fill in the table with the information. LIKE DISLIKE - It’s great for outdoor Ask Ss to read the passage again and find the information to complete the table. Ask Ss to note where they found the information. Maybe ask Ss to write on their posters. B/ Speaking: Activity 4: 4. Look at the map of Khang’s neighbourhood. In pairs, ask and answer questions about how to get to the places on the map. Reminds Ss of the expressions they can use to give directions by giving example. T moves around the class and monitors. If there is enough time, T may call some pairs to talk before the whole class, then invite some - Read the text aloud. -Work in groups then answer one by one. -Ss note where they found the information that helped them to answer the questions. Ss can compare their answers. - Read silently - Group work, find out the information then compare answers before Saying aloud before the class - Pair work -asking and answering questions about the locations on he map. - To practice speaking the dialogue. II/ Practice: Key : 1. It is in then suburbs of Da Nang City. 2. Because it has beautiful parks and sandy beaches and fine weather. 3. They are very friendly 4. Because there’re many modern buildings and offices in the city Key : LIKE DISLIKE - It’s great for outdoor activities - There’s almost everything here - Most houses have a backyard and a front yard. - People are incredibly friendly - The food is very good It’s great for outdoor - The streets are busy, crowded, and noisy during the day. B/ Speaking: 4. Look at the map of Khang’s neighbourhood. In pairs, ask and answer questions about how to get to the places on the map. Ask and answer question about the way to get the places in you town/in your village/near your school. 5. While Ss are practicing their dialogues, T circulates and monitors. T notes some common errors and discusses them with the whole class. Select some good pairs to act out their dialogues in front of the class pronunciation, funny content, etc). Then, give feedback- comments on strengths and correct a few errors in the target language. III. HOMEWORK: 1/ Write about your neighbourhood (What are there? How are they? What are the people like? What you like and don’t like? ). Then learn by heart. 2/ Prepare the next. - Pair work - Compare the asnwers with the partner - Some say, others write the answers on the board Ss copy down and remember to do their homework Example : A: Excuse me. Can you tell me the way to the beach? B: Yes. First, go straight. Then turn right. After that go straight again. It’s in front of you. A: Thank you very much. Example : A: Excuse me. Can you tell me the way to Mai market? B: Yes. First, go out of our school and turn right. Then go straight for about 5 minutes. It's on your right. A: Thank you very much. Practice: The post office , the gas station, Thuan Phuoc bridge, Tho Quang bank HOMEWORK: 1/ Write about your neighbourhood (What are there? How are they? What are the people like?
