Rhino horn is used to make ornaments and medicines It has been used for these purposes for centuries

Nowadays, however, the decrease in rhino numbers and the increase in the illegal export of rhino horn threaten

to wipe out the African continent's rhino population This report gives the results of a survey into current rhino population and makes recommendations about how to protect them

The survey was carried out by Traffic, a wildlife trade monitoring programme It found that:
