Lesson Plan (grade 11 – advanced) Period :57 Preparation date : 09/12/2011 Unit : 7 Lesson : writing I. Aims : - By the end of the lesson, the students are able to write notes for a proposal. - By the end of the lesson, the students are able to a proposal for a celebration event. II. Lexical items : - proposal - in charge - expenses - responsible - objective III. Structures : - Preparations for the trip should be made as follow. - With the aim to help…., all the members are encouraged to join IV. Teaching aids: - textbook - handouts - chalk and board V. Techniques : - writing-based - Procedures : State/time Teacher’s and students’ activities Blackboard Materials 1. warm- up (7’) Games: cut – up sentences - give each Ss a copy of the task below - Put Ss into groups - Set a time limit of 4 minutes - with the clues give, Ss work out the word in shaded squares by completing the word grid - pieces of paper - sheets of paper - chalk & board - Ask groups to hand in their word grid - A ward one point for each correct word from 1-8, and five extra points for the correct word in shaded squares . - go over the answers with the whole class. Transition: In today’s writing section, we’ll learn how to make a proposal for Sth. - write down on the board: Expected answers: 1 popular 2. record 3. resolution 4. whisper 5. joke 6. show 7. holiday. 8 sleigh. Unit 7: Celebrations- Writing a proposal 2. Pre- writing (10’) Presenting outline: - elicit what to include in a proposal - Have Ss study the notes for a proposal - go through the notes with the whole class and give explanations for each category. Teaching some expressions : - Objective - Time & venue - participant - preparations and students-in-charge – activities - expenses - prepared by - approved Expressing objectives - with the aim to / in order to / with a view to. - aim to do sth. Assigning duty. Chalk and board - be in charge of sth / V-ing - take responsibility for sth - will + V ( bare- Inf) 3. while- writing (20’) Activity 1: table completion - arrange Ss to work in small groups. - give each group a handout of a thank-you letter - tell Ss that three are some sentences that do not belong to the letter and ask them to read and find out which sentences handouts do not belong. - call the groups to read their sentences aloud and check with the class. Activity 2: write it up - put Ss into pairs and give out handouts - tell Ss that the two letters are mixed up, and ask them to read the letter, sort out the sentences that do not belong and move them to their correct places in their letter. - go over the answers handouts with the class . 4. Post- writing (10’) Peer correction - Ask Sts to work in group of 5, deliver each group 5 pieces of writings and tell them to read and correct their friends’ narratives. - Tell each group to choose the best piece of writing, and the most special story. - Go around to control and give help if necessary. - Call a St. from each group to read their Card 1- Jack and card 2 – Sinh are delivered out Sts. Handouts + sheets of paper group’s best writing, and ask Sts to give comments. 5. Homework (1’) - Ask Sts to write a proposal as guided at home for preparing next time. textbook .
