Lesson Plan (grade 11 – advanced) Period : 75 Preparation date :14 /1/2011 Unit 9: Lesson : listening I. Aims : - By the end of the lesson, the students are able to listen and understand general ideas. - By the end of the lesson, the students are able to listen for specific details. II. Lexical items : - environment-friendly - disturb - intention - wash away III. Structures : - so ecotourism is environment-friendly, isn’t it? IV. Teaching aids: - textbook - CD player - poster - chalk an board - cards - Handouts V. Techniques : - skill-based ( listening, speaking) VI. Procedures : State/time Teacher’s and students’ activities Blackboard Materials 1. warm- up (7’) Game: word grid - prepare a poster of a word grid with 10 rows ( you can prepare a poster with all the words in their rows and cover each row with a piece of paper. When SS get it right., you just need to uncover that row) - ask SS to work in two groups , A and B - Tell SS to take turns to . -Posters cards. choose a numbered row - read the explanation for the word into that row, and the group try to say what the word is. If the group get it right, they score 1 point. If they get it wrong, the other group have the chance to say the word and score the point. - after 5 rows have been revealed, the groups are allowed to guess the key word in the column. If they get it right, they win 5 points. - the group that have more points will win the game - check SS’ understanding of instructions and have them start the game - keep a running total of points for each group on the board - declare the winner - Transition: Ecotourism is a popular kind of travel today. You’re going to listen to a talk about the effects of ecotourism on the environment. But first, what do you know about ‘ecotourism’? - write down on the board : Unit 9: p 75 Listening Chalk & board 2. Pre- listening (7’) Brainstorming: - Ask SS to write down things they know about ecotourism. - note down SS’ ideas on the board. Talking about the pictures (task a, p.129) : - Tell SS the tourists in the pictures are taking an eco-tour. - Ask SS to say what these people might be doing, and then ask them if what these eco- tourists do does any + environment- friendly. + currently popular. Small board harm to the environment. 3. while- listening. (25’) Activity 1: True – false statement ( task b, p. 130) - tell SS they are going to listen to a talk by an environmentalist about the effects of ecotourism. - Ask SS to listen and match the recordings to the pictures - call on SS to give the answers - have SS listen again and go over the answers * Expected answers: 1.a 2. c 3. b 4. a Textbook and CD player CD player and chalk + bb with the class. Activity 2: Multiple- choice questions ( task b, p. 154-155) -Have SS read through the questions to know what they need to look for. - Have SS listen to the recordings and do the exercises - call on SS to give the answers - elicit class opinions. - have SS listen again and check the answers with the class * Expected answers: 1. C 2. B 3. A 4.B 5. C 6. C 7. C 8. A 9. B 10. A 4. Post- listening Speaking : role play. - Put SS into pairs, A: a (5’) 5. Homework (1’) journalist, B: one member of the organizing committee. - Ask SS to conduct an interview on what has happened, based on the information from the recordings. - move round giving help where needed. - call on some pairs to act out their interviews. - invite class opinions and give feed back. Gap-filling ( handouts) - give each student a copy of the task below to do at home. - fill each the gap with the correct form of one Expected answers: 1. dispute 2. rained out 3. suspensions 4. walkout 5. boost 6. sold out.
