I don't want to fail the exam. -> -> I study hard in order not to pass the exam. đúng -> I study hard so as not to /to pass the exam.đúng -> I study hard not to pass the exam. sai Cách nối câu : 1) Dùng SO THAT/IN ORDER THAT : Trong câu thứ hai nếu có các động từ : want, like, hope thì phải bỏ đi rồi thêm can/could/will/would vào -Nếu sau các chữ want, like, hope có túc từ thì lấy túc từ đó ra làm chủ từ. I give you the book .I want you to read it. -> I give you the book so that you can read it. 2) Dùng IN ORDER TO/SO AS TO/TO : - Chỉ áp dụng được khi 2 chủ từ 2 câu giống nhau - Bỏ chủ từ câu sau, bỏ các chữ want, like, hope giữ lại từ động từ sau nó. CÁC DẠNG BÀI TẬP DẠNG BÀI TẬP 1: Nối hai câu cùng chủ ngữ thành một câu có cụm từ chỉ mục đích hoặc mệnh đề chỉ mục đích. Ex: Mary gets up early every morning. DẠNG BÀI TẬP 2 Nối hai câu có cùng chủ ngữ nhưng sau “want” có tân ngữ hoặc túc từ (Object). Ex: He gave me his address. He wanted me to visit him.  He gave me his address so that I would visit him. They whispered. They didn’t want anyone to hear their conversation.  They whispered in order that no one could hear their conversation. Nếu muốn dùng Phrase of purpose ở dạng này, ta phải theo công thức In order for + O + to-infinitive Ex: He gave me his address in order for me to visit him. They whispered in order that no one could hear their conversation. DẠNG BÀI TẬP 3: Đổi một câu từ “phrase of purpose ” sang “clause of purpose” hoặc ngược lại. Ex: She studies English so that… He stood up in orther… Lưu ý: Khi động từ trong mệnh đề chính ở thì hiện tại thì ta dùng “will/ can” ở mệnh đề chỉ mục đích.
