Teaching aids:  Pictures (copied & enlarged from textbook), cassette tape & recorder. V. Procedures: Steps Teacher’s activities Students’ activities Warm-up Presentation  Asks: “Where Do You Often Go On Your Holiday?”  Shows 4 Pictures (P.98) & Has Ss Look At Them.  Asks Ss To Match Names (English) With Pictures.  Has Ss Guess Where The Places Are: - The Temple Of Literature - Ngo Mon (Gate) - Ha Long Bay - Nha Rong Habor  Give Task 1: Answer the questions: 1)Who are Hoa & Tim? 2)Who does Tim go with?  Answer.  Listen & look.  Work in groups.  Tell the names: – Ha Noi – Hue – Bac Ninh – Ho Chi Minh City  Listen. Practice  Control practice:  Plays the tape (twice).  Has Ss repeat.  Further practice:  Has Ss do task 1.  Has Ss practice the dialogue in groups.  Listen to the tape & repeat.  Answer the questions.  Practice in groups. Production  Has some groups perform the dialogue before the class.  Task 2: Asks Ss do (2/p. 99, 100).  Calls some Ss read their answers & corrects.  Asks Ss to draw Ss’ attention to structures & vocabulary.  Briefly explains the meaning of the structure: Ex: Would you mind sitting in the front seat of the taxi? Objectives: By the end of the lesson, students will:  Know how to make and respond to formal requests, suggest and make suggestion.  Complete a narrative.  Developing speaking. II. Language contents:  Grammar: Request with: _ Do / Would you mind + V+ ing…? _ Do you mind if I + V(present) …? _ Would you mind if I + V(past) …?.  Language functions: expressions for formal requests and suggestions. III. Techniques:  Role play.  Question – answer. IV. Teaching aids:  Pictures (copied and enlarged from textbook), cassette tape and recorder. V. Procedures: Steps Teacher’s activities Students’ activities Warm-up Presentation  Guides Ss to play the game “Simon says …” (one St makes requests & the rest of the class do the actions  using imperative sentences.) Ex: Simon says: Open the door. / Stand up. From the game, tells Ss how to make requests / suggestions more politely by using Do / Would you mind…? instead of imperative sentences. Ex: Open the book.  Do / Would you mind opening the book?  Do you mind if I open the book?  Would you mind if I opened the book?  Explains & asks Ss to practice making & responding to formal requests. (Textbook – p.100)  Play the game.  Listen.  Say.  Work in pairs. Practice  Explains the task & asks Ss to read the expressions twice. (p.101)  Models the task, then has Ss work in pairs, taking the roles of student A & student B.  Read.  Work in pairs. Production  Calls some pairs perform in front of class.  Asks Ss to make & respond to formal requests or suggest & make suggestions about everything they like.  Reviews the request with: Do / Would you mind + V_ing? Do you mind if I + V 1 ? Objectives: At the end of the lesson, Ss will: • Know how to talk about the position of the places. • Developing listening skill. II. Language contents: • Grammar: review the simple future tense. • Vocabulary: prepositions of position. III. Techniques: • Question – answer. IV. Teaching aids: • Pictures and map (copied and enlarged from textbook), cassette tape and recorder. V. Procedures: Steps Teacher’s activities Students’ activities Pre-listening  Shows the map (p.102) – asking some questions. What’s this? / Where is number a? / Is number c just opposite the tourist information center? / …… reviewing some prepositions of place and phrases of lines.  Aks Ss to get ready to listen to the tape to match the places in the box to their correct positions on the map.  Read the places in the box. (p.102)  Listen. While-listening  Has Ss listen to the tape (all the conversation).  Has Ss do the task.  Asks some questions to check Ss’ understanding.  What is number a?  Where is the bus station? ……  Ss listen again.  Listen.  Do.  Answer.  Listen. Post-listening  Calls some Ss to give answers  giving correction.  Ss work in groups of 3 or 4 & practice introducing people.  Read the answers.  Work in groups.  HOMEWORK:  Write about the position of LQD junior high school / Dam Sen Park.  Prepare lesson 4: Read/ page 102. 66 TRAVELING AROUND VIET NAM Lesson plan 8 Teacher’s name: TRAN THI NHU PHUONG UNIT 11: Period 4: Read I. Objectives: By the end of the lesson, Ss will: • Understand some simple advertisements. • Develop reading skills. II. Language contents: • Grammar: Simple present of ordinary verbs • Vocabulary: (n) accommodation, departure, arrival, institute, limestone, slope (a) giant, magnificent, tribal III. Techniques: • Question – Answer / Scanning. IV. Teaching aids: • Worksheets. V. Procedures: Steps Teacher’s activities Students’ activities Pre-reading  Asks questions: “Where do you usually go on your summer vacation?” “Tell me the name of some beautiful places in VN?”  Introduces the new reading text by playing a game: (guessing game)  => Match the names with the correct pictures.  Pre-teaches some key words: resort, accommodation, departure, Buddha, institute, magnificent, tribal, caves, limestone…  TASK 1: How many resorts does the reading text talk about?  Answer.  Play a game.  Repeat & copy down.  Listen. While- reading  Listen the tape once & do task 1.  TASK 2: Read the text & complete the information about resorts around Viet Nam.  Silent-reading: Ss read the text and do TASK 2.  Listen.  Read silently.  Do task 2 Post- reading  Has some Ss read the text aloud.  Corrects task 2.  Checks Ss by using the questions: 1) Are there any caves in Nha Trang? flights railway 2) How about accommodation in Nha Trang/ Da Lat/ Sapa/ Ha Long Bay?  TASK 3: Do exercises 1& 2 in the book.  Ss can check each other by using the same questions.  Asks Ss to make an advertisements of some other places such as Hue, HCM City, Vung Tau, …  Has representatives of some groups talk about their advertisements. Other Ss can make questions if they want to get more information.  Reviews the reading text by asking some questions about 4 places they already learnt.  Read aloud.  Correct.  Answer.  Pair work.  Group work.  Perform before the class.  Answer.  HOMEWORK:  Write your own advertisement (Wherever you like in Viet Nam).  Prepare lesson 5: Write. 67 TRAVELING AROUND VIET NAM TRAVELING AROUND VIET NAM Lesson plan 8 Teacher’s name: TRAN THI NHU PHUONG UNIT 11: Period 5: Write I. Objectives: • Retelling events happened to someone. • Developing writing skills (completing a narrative). II. Language contents: • Vocabulary: canoe, paddle, rescue, overturn, stumble. III. Techniques: • Question – Answer, guessing. IV. Teaching aids: • Pictures (8), flashcards. V. Procedures: Steps Teacher’s activities Students’ activities Warm-up Pre-writing Uses 4 descriptions of 4 famous places: Da Lat, Sapa, Nha Trang, Ha Long Bay. Has Ss write the name of each place above these descriptions. Lead-in: Have you ever traveled to Da Lat? (Ss: Yes) What did you see there? (Ss: lakes, waterfalls, flower gardens…) The Brown liked Da Lat, too. Last week they traveled to Da Lat. Explains new words: canoe, paddle Reads task: Which place did they visit? What did they do there? Corrects the answers. Has Ss guess what happened to the Browns next. Explains the new words: rescue, overturn Has Ss arrange the sentences (1 on page 106) in order. Has 1 or 2 two Ss retell the story about The Browns. Shows the picture (h)/ page 107: “We have learnt what happened to The Browns when they were in Da Lat. Objectives: Systematizing and practicing the parts • Using the structure with V+ing to describe the school yard. • Using the structure with Ved to describe the stall. • Using the structure do / would you mind + (V+ing, if) to give an advice. II. Language contents: • Grammar: - V+ing / Ved - Do / Would you mind + (V_ing, If) III. Techniques: • Listening – Speaking – Reading – Writing. IV.
