ABSTRACTSustainable development in the retail industry is always a topconcern of consumers From used and second-hand items, to low-impact packaging, to traceable product origins, people have becomemore aware of their lifestyle and buying habits Their purchaseshave an impact on the earth An integral factor for both sustainabledevelopment and CSR is the environment CSR and the sustainabilitygoals both emphasize stronger environmental conservation,recycling and innovation programs In this essay, our team plays therole of marketing manager of a retail chain to study theenvironmental sustainability projects of Emart Korea and thenpresent the decisions to develop the retail chain Emart Vietnam.Through research and evidence, we believe that the project ofReplacing paper invoices with electronic invoices will be successful

in developing a sustainable environment of the Emart Vietnam retailchain This helps to save costs on printing and issuing invoices,customers do not worry about losing invoices, most importantly, thisproject helps to reduce unnecessary paper waste, leading in savingprojects save resources and protect the environment, and at thesame time contribute to the conversion from paper documents toelectronic in accordance with today's industrial revolution inVietnam We hope that in the coming years, Emart Vietnam in

particular as well as all retail chains in Vietnam in general cancompletely eliminate paper invoices and replace them withelectronic invoices, creating many positive changes for customers.environment.

Emart is the number one retail supermarket chain in Korea In 1993,

Emart started doing business in Korea, and took over Walmart Korea

in 2006 Emart is considered an integral part of Shinsegae - Korea's

leading corporation with business formats Diverse businesses can

be mentioned such as Starbucks Korea, Shinsegae department

store, Premium Outlet system Currently, Emart is a global retail

company with more than 160 stores operating in Korea along with

branches offices located in the US, Japan and Vietnam Emart is

II SWOT ANALYSIS

SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) analysis is a method foridentifying and analyzing internal strengths and weaknesses and external opportunitiesand threats that shape current and future operations and help develop strategic goals 2.1 STRENGTH

Emart Vietnam holds a prominent position in the retail segment and is considered tohave a good business background and standard cooperation with partners Thanks tothe sustainable business model, Emart succeeds in brand recognition for Vietnamesepeople

The supermarket system applies a business strategy of both economic developmentand social development, with the goal of developing and protecting the greenenvironment

Emart is at the forefront of promoting green consumption by expanding eco-friendlygreen products and events And there are many positive contributions to societythrough environmental protection campaigns This is evident in the process ofparticipating in shopping at supermarkets, people are suggested to use recycled plasticbags many times instead of Non-biodegradable plastic bags, processed foods are used

2.4 THEATS

Emart entered the Vietnamese market late, so the competition for

brands from established retailers is very high Since then, the

implementation of environmental activities requires factors of

budget and higher popularity

Vietnam is evaluated by domestic and foreign economic experts as a

country with stable macroeconomic indicators, fast growth and

strong integration with the region and the world with a series of

international commitments on environment, especially in many

new-generation free trade agreements (FTAs) signed, including

regulations and requirements on environment for export products of

At present, with the increasingly advanced and developed life, the

pollution problem is increasing exponentially Every day, thousands

and tons of waste and emissions are discharged into the

environment In urban areas, only about 60% - 70% of solid waste is

collected It is estimated that domestic solid waste generated in

urban areas nationwide increases by an average of 10-16% per year

and more than 90% of climate change is caused by human

activities In 2020, the National Assembly promulgated the Law on

Environmental Protection and in 2022 the Law on Environmental

Protection will be implemented with many new breakthroughs,

promoting the role of people and businesses as the central position

focus on environmental protection activities The Law on

Environmental Protection in 2020 has identified the business

community as a factor that plays a very important role in the cause

of environmental protection The good implementation of

environmental protection is not only the responsibility of enterprises,

but also helps businesses improve competitiveness, penetrate

international markets and ensure sustainable development

Promoting the role of businesses in environmental protection is the

key solution to solve current environmental pressures Businesses in

general and retail businesses in particular such as Emart need to

have a sense of responsibility and comply with the law on

environmental protection, and do well in environmental protection

This Law provides for environmental protection activities; rights,

obligations and responsibilities of agencies, organizations,

residential communities, households and individuals in

environmental protection activities

Article 2 Subjects of application

This Law applies to agencies, organizations, residential communities,

households and individuals in the territory of the Socialist Republic

of Vietnam, including the mainland, islands, sea areas, underground

and sky

Article 3 Environmental protection principles

1 Environmental protection is the right, obligation and responsibility

of all agencies, organizations, communities, households andindividuals

2 Environmental protection is a central and prerequisite condition,foundation and factor for sustainable socio-economic development.Environmental protection activities must be linked with economicdevelopment and resource management and be considered andevaluated during the implementation of development activities

6 Agencies, organizations, residential communities, households andindividuals benefiting from the environment are obliged to makefinancial contributions to environmental protection activities;causing pollution, incidents and environmental degradation mustpay, compensate for damage, remedy, handle and bear otherresponsibilities according to the provisions of law

7 Environmental protection activities must ensure not to harmnational sovereignty, security and interests, associated with regionaland global environmental protection

Article 4 State policies on environmental protection

1 Create favorable conditions for agencies, organizations,residential communities, households and individuals to participate inthe implementation, inspection and supervision of environmentalprotection activities

6 Ensuring the interests of organizations, residential communities,households and individuals that contribute to environmentalprotection activities; incentives and support for environmentalprotection activities; promote environmentally friendly products andservices

7 Strengthening scientific research, developing technology forpollution treatment, recycling and waste treatment; to prioritize thetransfer and application of advanced, high-tech, environmentally-friendly technologies and best existing techniques; strengthentraining of human resources on environmental protection.

10 Screening investment projects according to environmentalcriteria; apply appropriate environmental management tools foreach stage of investment strategies, planning, programs andprojects

Article 5 Prohibited acts in environmental protectionactivities

5 Executing investment projects or discharging wastes when theconditions are not satisfied according to the provisions of the law onenvironmental protection

10 Producing and trading in products that are harmful to humanhealth, organisms and nature; production and use of raw materialsand construction materials containing toxic elements in excess ofthe permitted levels according to environmental technicalregulations

1 This Decree provides for: Waste management including hazardouswaste, daily-life solid waste, ordinary industrial solid waste, liquidwaste products, wastewater, industrial exhaust gas and otherwastes other peculiarities; environmental protection in scrapimport

2 This Decree does not provide for the management of radioactivewaste, noise, vibration, light and radiation

3 The collection and transportation of waste from non-tariff zones,export processing zones, and export processing enterprises into theinland shall be carried out uniformly like waste outside non-tariffzones, export processing zones, and processing enterprises.exported according to the provisions of this Decree; provisions inChapter VIII of this Decree do not apply to scrap from non-tariffzones, export processing zones and export processing enterprises.Article 2 Subjects of application

This Decree applies to domestic agencies, organizations,households, individuals, foreign organizations and individuals(hereinafter referred to as organizations and individuals) that haveactivities related to waste and scrap imported in the territory of theSocialist Republic of Vietnam, including the mainland, islands, seaand airspace

MANAGEMENT OF DAILY SOLID WASTE

Article 15 Classification and storage of daily-life solid waste

The classification of daily-life solid wastes must be managed,supervised, propagated and mobilized by organizations, individualsand households to comply with regulations, ensuring favorablerequirements for collection and transportation and processing.Article 16 Responsibilities of organizations and individualsgenerating daily-life solid waste

Domestic solid waste generators (except households andindividuals) transfer domestic solid waste to the following entities:a) Reusing, recycling, co-processing and disposal facilities withappropriate functions;

b) The owner collects and transports daily-life solid waste satisfyingthe provisions of Article 18 of this Decree; organize the performance

of public service tasks of collecting and transporting daily-life solidwaste assigned by competent state agencies

NORMAL INDUSTRIAL SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENTArticle 30 Responsibilities of ordinary industrial solid wastegenerators

Ordinary industrial solid waste generators transfer ordinaryindustrial solid wastes to the following entities:

a) Owners of production facilities that use directly as raw materialsfor production, production of building materials or ground levelingare permitted to operate in accordance with law;

b) The owner of the production facility has been approved by thecompetent authority for the waste co-treatment plan;

c) Ordinary industrial solid waste treaters have appropriatefunctions;

d) The normal industrial solid waste carrier meets the requirements

of Article 31 of this Decree and has a transfer contract between theordinary industrial solid waste carrier and the entities specified atPoint a , b or point c of this clause

Organizations and individuals that reuse, preliminarily process,recycle, treat, co-treat and recover energy from ordinary industrialsolid waste must satisfy technical requirements and managementprocesses by themselves according to the following requirements:a) Comply with the enterprise registration certificate, businessregistration certificate or investment certificate, investmentregistration document and other equivalent documents asprescribed by law;

b) Made with technology, environmental protection works,production equipment available in the premises of the establishmentthat generates ordinary industrial solid waste and must meet therequirements for environmental protection as prescribed For wasteincinerators, conventional industrial solid waste landfills invested inthe premises for self-treatment of ordinary industrial solid wastesmust be consistent with the solid waste management content in themaster plans relate to;

c) It must be consistent with the decision approving theenvironmental impact assessment report, the certifiedenvironmental protection plan or equivalent documents and records.Article 31 Collection and transportation of ordinaryindustrial solid waste

Organizations and individuals that collect and transport ordinaryindustrial solid waste are responsible for transferring wastes toordinary industrial solid waste treatment facilities that are permitted

to operate in accordance with law

WASTE WATER MANAGEMENT

Article 37 Wastewater collection and treatment

Urban areas, concentrated residential areas, high-rise buildings,service and commercial complexes must have rainwater collectionsystems and wastewater collection and treatment according toplannings and comply with regulations technical standards onconstruction of technical infrastructure works

It can be said that Vietnam is currently on the list of heavily pollutedcountries in the world Faced with this situation, the Vietnamesegovernment has issued laws and decrees with the goal of improvingthe quality of the environment and people's lives Businesses such

as the Emart supermarket chain have also created environmentalprotection activities as well as invested in the latest technologies toreduce the release of waste into the environment The responsibility

to protect the environment is not only the responsibility of thegovernment but also the responsibility of the whole community.Comment: Based on the provisions of the Law on EnvironmentalProtection Law of Vietnam for businesses, Emart Vietnam needs tomake choices and orientations about new environmental activities

as well as going through a long time after the pandemic During theCovid-19 epidemic, the consumption of customers is graduallystabilizing along with the rapid urbanization rate, people have higherand higher incomes and the more popular shopping habits havecreated an attraction for consumers retail market People'sconsumption behavior is gradually changing in line with moderntrends, from daily shopping in traditional markets to large-volumeshopping in modern retail channels such as supermarkets,commercial centers or retail stores Convenience stores to serveconsumers and this is also the driving force behind the faster shift

from traditional retail channels to modern retail channels Emartneeds to develop a sustainable development innovation strategybased on environmental protection principles and environmentallaws promulgated by the Vietnamese government.

Emart needs to commit to creative investment and incorporate ESGcriteria in its business activities This is reflected in the developmentand innovation of business strategies in addition to meeting theneeds of stakeholders such as customers , workers at the sametime protect, maintain and enhance the human and naturalresources that will be needed in the future In addition to the abovecriteria for sustainable development for Emart, the system needs topromote ESG management throughout the company With thecriterion of joint development Emart can set common tasks for boththe company and the community in the company participation inenvironmental protection, response to climate change and carbonneutrality Future goals Emart always wants to aim for a green earthwith the participation of everyone
