When thinking about global environmental issues in the 21st century, creating and maintaining environmental sustainability is essential for the global competitiveness of a country, as well as any business organization, while still contributing to humanity's quality of life At Emart, this retail chain has been doing its best to create a greener and brighter future for the environment and society, and continues to take responsibility for each activity as an individual business Emart has a separate social activism department that conveys Emart's business philosophy of being a socially responsible company Through these activities, Emart can commit and succeed in publicizing the management apparatus, sharing development, contributing to society and being environmentally friendly. Currently, Emart has three important areas in environmentally friendly management First, this retail chain develops eco-friendly stores, reduces greenhouse effect, reduces energy and gas use. Using green products, expanding the business of environmentally friendly products as well as encouraging customers to consume green Finally, green culture, Emart has activities to propagate environmentally friendly culture to contribute to society through environmental protection campaigns.

Emart wishes to contribute to economic development and fulfill social responsibility in the host country through a transparent business philosophy in accordance with the law and business ethics.

In addition to maintaining and developing human resources, the company's leadership and all employees have participated in social activities, accompanied and developed with partners as well as implemented many business activities Environmentally friendly and forward looking The company actively joins hands with local organizations to bring hope to the less fortunate in disadvantaged areas through the programs "Share Hope", "Campaign to give hope", " Ride of Hope", "Strengthening traffic safety around schools in Ho Chi Minh City" (June 2021), Emart donated more than 4,000 standard helmets to primary school students in District 12 (06/06) September 2018) (6)

Emart has a suitable price policy for Vietnamese consumers How everyone can use high quality goods at competitive prices is the criterion in providing products and services of Emart To do this,Emart works directly with the manufacturer, minimizing the intermediary suppliers, simply "Emart will buy from the source, sell from the bottom, with strict quality supervision standards" with wants to help consumers get the best shopping experience (7)

SWOT ANALYSIS

STRENGTH

Emart Vietnam holds a prominent position in the retail segment and is considered to have a good business background and standard cooperation with partners Thanks to the sustainable business model, Emart succeeds in brand recognition for Vietnamese people.

The supermarket system applies a business strategy of both economic development and social development, with the goal of developing and protecting the green environment.

Emart is at the forefront of promoting green consumption by expanding eco-friendly green products and events And there are many positive contributions to society through environmental protection campaigns This is evident in the process of participating in shopping at supermarkets, people are suggested to use recycled plastic bags many times instead of Non-biodegradable plastic bags, processed foods are used entirely from natural materials of clear origin and packed with paper, making recycling easier.

With a large number of members and growing steadily over the years The large human resource system contributes to bringing hope for environmentally friendly and future-oriented business activities.

Emart is autonomous in terms of costs and budgets for environmental protection and education activities Regularly organizes social activities with the full participation of all Emart employees (8)

WEAKNESS

Environmental activities and raising awareness of environmental protection from the use of supermarket products have not been mentioned much by Emart

Too much focus on developing products and business systems, but recently environmental activities are no longer an issue Emart focuses much on.

Emart cares and develops brand products to increase sales but forgets about caring for the environment, and the consequences when the household waste from the supermarket is used by customers.

Emart Vietnam focuses on social activities over environmentally sustainable development.

OPPORTUNITY

The advanced achievements of the 4.0 industrial revolution in the retail sector create many development opportunities for Vietnam with breakthrough changes and diverse, efficient and fast service standards based on the technology platform digital technology As a country with a young population structure, a high percentage of people using smart devices, the retail industry in Vietnam develops quite actively with forms of multi-channel deployment, especially with the increase in the number of customers The growth of e- commerce has promoted the excitement of the retail market, making it faster and easier to carry out environmental activities or update information.

Social activities such as protecting the environment and children's health are well received by the people This helps to raise people's awareness

The issue of environmental protection has been paid great attention by the Party,National Assembly and Government The State encourages the socialization of collection, transportation, reuse, recycling, waste treatment and recovery energy from waste Encourage the application of environmentally friendly waste treatment technologies (9)

THEATS

Emart entered the Vietnamese market late, so the competition for brands from established retailers is very high Since then, the implementation of environmental activities requires factors of budget and higher popularity

Vietnam is evaluated by domestic and foreign economic experts as a country with stable macroeconomic indicators, fast growth and strong integration with the region and the world with a series of international commitments on environment, especially in many new- generation free trade agreements (FTAs) signed, including regulations and requirements on environment for export products of Vietnamese enterprises The requirements for the implementation of these environmental commitments have also been institutionalized through Vietnam's legal and policy documents (10)

People's living standards are getting better and better, the average income has grown well, while the modern retail system has not been invested and developed commensurately.

In Vietnam, human resources for environmental protection are still inadequate, lacking in quantity and weak in quality The rate of return on investment in environmental protection from environment- related revenues is still low (11)

VIETNAMESE ENVIRONMENT REGULATIONS IMPACTING INDUSTRY/ RETAIL CHAIN

ENVIRONMENT SUSTAINABITILTY PRACTICES OF EMART

Environmental activities of Korean retail chain Emart

In order to make a decision on new planning as well as develop activities to build a sustainable environment for the Emart Vietnam retail chain, it is necessary to first study how Emart retailers in Korea have done in the process of operating their actions to be able to comment as well as make the most appropriate decisions for the environment in Vietnam

Overall, the international community is encouraging companies to exercise their social responsibility in all processes of product design, manufacturing, retailing and disposal Therefore, Emart Korea supports the Korean government's goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, and we have built our own environmental management implementation system They devise and implement a series of eco-friendly programs in which customers can participate directly or indirectly, thereby promoting a culture of green consumption throughout society Three key areas of the Emart Korean retail chain's sustainable environmental practices are Green Stores, Green Products and Green Culture (15)

Emart SungSoo Branch: The first green store in Korea, SungSoo Store was recognized by the Ministry of Environment as the first green store in Korea in November 2011 Along with remarkable achievements, Emart continues to open expand green stores in the coming years

Figure 9: The first green store in Korea, SungSoo Store

Emart Uijeongbu Branch: Eco-Emart Standards In July 2013, Emart opened a Uijeongbu Branch with 35 different eco-friendly items applied during construction Stores are built with state-of-the-art features designed to save energy while equipped with optimal energy technologies that are environmentally friendly and thanks to such features and technologies, they will have can save more than 20% energy consumption

Figure 10: Emart opened Uijeongbu Branch

Emart Traders: The first solar-powered store The first time in the industry, they installed a solar-powered generating facility at Emart Traders in Gusung, YongIn City, Gyounggi-Do The facility is famous for its design aspect that bears the image of a large flowerbed, while generating more than 570mwh of electricity annually through a maximum capacity of 460kw.

RPS Solar Facility: Emart has installed solar-powered equipment in many of its store locations as part of its RPS (Renewable PortfolioStandard) business plan , while continuing to expand their contribution in adapting their businesses to renewable energy.

Emart's JeCheon Branch: First Geothermal Facility Opened in December 2009, Their JeCheon Branch adopted the industry's first geothermal system By using a consistent temperature below ground (15℃), thermal energy is being used for heating and cooling purposes across the entire store location Thanks to the stable energy source, the energy efficiency is always at the optimal level.

ESCO plan: Since 2009, Emart has voluntarily adjusted its ESCO plan and they have actively invested in reducing energy consumption and green emissions by replacing old equipment with high-efficiency equipment and LED-based system.

Starting with the SungSu Branch, together with the City of Seoul and the Ministry of the Environment, Emart has installed charging stations for electric vehicles in an effort to build infrastructure for the widespread use of electric vehicles In 2014, they signed an agreement with BMW Korea as part of Emart's aggressive efforts to popularize the use of electric vehicles in the private sector.

Figure 15: Electric Vehicle Charging Station

For energy-conscious partner companies:

Since 2008, after assessing the energy use status of partner companies, Emart has advised on efficient energy use The whole process is at their own expense, and this program is one of many initiatives they participate in to maximize energy savings, so that partners can maximize energy use in the long run, add value to their competitiveness From 2023, Emart begins to partially finance the replacement of old equipment to be environmentally friendly.

Using Green Cards & Earning Points: In May 2011, Emart signed an agreement with the Department of Environment to promote the use of green cards in their stores Shoppers at Emart can accumulate eco-money when purchasing any green product With the eco- money collected, customers can also purchase Shinsegae gift vouchers

Actively participate in eco-friendly consumer festival: Every June, on the occasion of Environment Day, Emart participates in the festival organized by the Ministry of Environment, and at the same time promotes many activities and events to encourage people consumers shop for environmentally friendly products and services, as well as promote the use of green cards and eco-money.

Figure 16: Customers use green cards to accumulate points

Promotion of Green Products: Emart has actively promoted and participated in many activities to promote the development and sale of green products, as well as encourage green consumption They held an eco-friendly product expo in May 2009 and also in April

2011, Emart signed an agreement with the Ministry of Environment in an effort to voluntarily purchase green products To promote eco- friendly products to attract customers, they placed each of these exclusive corners right in front of the checkout lines so that customers could see and purchase for themselves.

Eco-Friendly Infants Store: Shop “Our Eco-Friendly Infants (a store founded by an independent social enterprise)” found in every Emart store Customers can buy a variety of eco-friendly products for babies.

Activities applicable to Emart Vietnam

According to the latest United Nations report, every minute, the world consumes 1 million plastic bottles According to the announcement of the Ocean Conservancy, 90% of the waste floating in the sea is plastic waste including candy shells, plastic bottles, plastic bags, spoons, forks, straws It is known that Vietnam is (18) one of the countries most affected by climate change and sea level rise The World Bank (WB) estimates that climate change will reduceVietnam's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by 3.5% by 2050 (19)

In order to be able to effectively apply sustainable campaigns for Emart Vietnam businesses, in accordance with the daily consumption habits of customers, create a friendly consumption culture, and raise people's awareness in the industry work to protect environment The two most viable sustainable campaigns when applied to the Vietnamese market are:

Recycling Center for Plastic Cans & Bottles: According to statistics from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, each year in Vietnam, about 1.8 million tons of plastic waste is discharged into the environment, 0.28 million to 0 73 million tons of that ends up in the ocean - but only 27% of it is recycled (24)

Replace paper invoices with electronic invoices: In Vietnam, most of the thermal printing papers circulating on the market contain BPA toxic content greater than 1% Thus, the toxic content of BPA on thermal paper in Vietnam is up to 50 times higher than European standards And the amount of paper produced annually to provide for printing invoices also accounts for a very large proportion, which is having a strong impact on the environment and people.

DIFFICULTIES IN MARKETING CONCEPTS

Figure 24: Convert paper Figure 23: Number of discarded bills

As the largest and oldest hypermarket chain in Korea, Emart has spent more than 20 years operating in the field of goods distribution Together with the transparent business policy and the philosophy of "Customer is number one", they can establish a "win- win" business culture not only for partners, but also serve the highest benefits for customers Vietnam Emart will accompany Vietnamese people in all activities of life Emart will also focus on introducing new consumer styles that suit the tastes and needs of the public Emart's mission is to bring a better life to all Vietnamese people (20)

Emart wishes to contribute to economic development and fulfill social responsibility in the host country through a transparent business philosophy in accordance with the law and business ethics.

In addition to maintaining and developing human resources, the company's leadership and all employees have participated in social activities, accompanied and developed with partners as well as implemented many friendly business activities Environmentally friendly and forward looking To fulfill the corporate social responsibility, a year before opening the first supermarket, Emart Vietnam together with the local community organized useful social activities The company not only wishes to bring a new culture and shopping means suitable for local consumers, but also cares and actively contributes to the most important needs of the Vietnamese people such as protecting children, health care and educational development (21)

Therefore, when applying appropriate social and environmental activities for the Emart Vietnam supermarket chain, it will not change the company's business strategy but also help consumers have a better view of Emart This is consistent with the orientation that the Company has set as well as the desire to develop in the future

Difficult factors when deploying operations in Vietnam:

Assessing the difficult factors when implementing the activity “Create a plastic bottle & cans recycling center”

In Vietnam, the source of plastic waste is nearly 18,000 tons/day. However, the number of plastic waste treatment plants in Vietnam is too small, leading to the current waste of "junk resources" It is a paradox that although domestic waste is flooded and painful, Vietnam is the second largest scrap importer in the world In 2021 alone, the plastic industry has to import 11 billion USD of virgin plastic resin and 8 billion USD of finished and semi-finished plastic.

At the recycling center of cans and plastic bottles, it indirectly promotes the import of scrap for recycling and reuse, but in the country, there is an abundant source of recyclable materials that can be recycled from waste Besides, the placement of plastic bottle collection machines to be implemented effectively must rely on people's consciousness

Assessing the difficult factors when implementing the activity "E-invoice"

Emart's financial and accounting issues will also determine the technical facilities as well as technology It requires electronic facilities, technology infrastructure through accounting software system, electronic invoicing software to use e-invoices and to transmit electronic data to buyers Emart needs to ensure a stable

Internet network, ensuring that all customers can use it, especially at payment points (22)

Using e-invoices also requires Emart employees to be tech-savvy. There is a software management team, regularly checking and repairing (23)

Vietnamese consumers need time to adopt new activities At first, the application of a new form of payment will cause certain difficulties for consumers In addition, the operation interface of the e-invoice sending application must be simple, meeting the tastes of Vietnamese consumers Ensure cases are handled when users are not tech-savvy (24)

After assessing the difficulties of the two projects above, the team found that the use of "Electronic Invoices" would be more suitable for the Vietnamese environment as well as meet the needs of customers while protecting the environment Sustainable environment, building a good culture for Emart businesses inVietnam

DECISIONS & PLAN FOR EMART VIETNAM

Decision sustainable construction activities Emart Vietnam

The pulp and paper industry is one of the very important industries for the socio-economic development strategies of countries Paper industry is considered as one of the key industries contributing to poverty reduction, economic restructuring and economic development in remote areas In addition to the positive effects that the papermaking industry brings, with the characteristics of this industry being a heavy use of energy, fuels and chemicals, and potentially harmful emissions, this is also a in industries that cause significant environmental pollution Recently, pressing problems of environmental pollution have occurred in many different forms, scales and levels, many violations have lasted for a long time, causing serious effects on the environment and health of people. people, environmental quality continues to deteriorate in many places Therefore, forecasting and assessing environmental impacts in pulp and paper production and proposing management solutions is essential in business management and development.

For that reason, the group chose to replace paper invoices with electronic invoices This mobile invoice campaign was adopted by Emart in 2017 As of May 2022, printing of paper receipts has decreased by more than 200 million receipts Emart consistently offers a variety of benefits to customers who decide to get mobile receipts, including an event where customers can win a free air purifier.

Description: If a customer chooses to receive a mobile receipt on the Emart App, they can receive an electronic receipt instead of a paper receipt after the in-store checkout process Choosing mobile receipts is a great way for customers to help protect the environment.

Customers often have the habit of throwing away receipts right after making a purchase, but there are still some people who keep them to go home to check if they have enough products, but then they also throw them away because they have no purpose use As aKorean article said, “The receipt was accidentally thrown away InSouth Korea, 334,400 trees are cut down each year to make receipts 1.57 billion liters of water are used The process of making and removing receipts generates 55,000 tons of greenhouse gases.

In particular, E-Mart Korea issues about 270 million receipts annually, and the paperwork alone costs up to 1 billion won per year.” This not only causes damage to the environment but also costs a lot of businesses To prevent such huge waste of resources and environmental pollution, 1,962 stores of 5 companies of Shinsegae Group, including E-Mart, Shinsegae Department Store, Starbucks, E-Mart Everyday and Shinsegae Food , started the 'Mobile Receipts' campaign in January of last year And on the 19th, we celebrated our 1 year anniversary As a result, a total of 50 million paper receipts were reduced by 5 companies in one year 1.6 million customers have joined and received mobile receipts through smartphone apps instead of paper receipts, about 35% of total payment transactions have joined the mobile receiving movement, this is what encouraging (25)

In 2021, Emart Vietnam supermarket has a revenue of VND 1,600 billion, leading in both revenue and average number of visitors per supermarket in Vietnam This proves that Emart Vietnam will have to spend a lot of money on printing paper invoices for customers. Therefore, bringing a mobile invoice campaign is necessary to contribute to environmental protection.

"Hóa đơn điện tử - Ngày mai xanh hơn" will become Emart

Vietnam's slogan when implementing this activity The project's message is towards sustainable development, close and familiar to the Vietnamese people, creating innovation for businesses towards a sustainable environment.

Factors that need to be changed when bringing the campaign to Vietnam

The mobile invoice campaign has been done very well by Emart in Korea According to a Korean article, after 1 year of implementing the campaign, they have obtained results: 50 million paper bills have been reduced by 5 supermarkets It is worth mentioning that people have also enjoyed a lot, 1.6 million customers have participated in receiving electronic invoices instead of paper invoices and Emart has also saved 200 million won We can imagine that if a receipt is 50cm, 50 million such sheets will be 25,000km long, this length is equivalent to the distance to go halfway around the world After 1 year this campaign has protected nearly 3000 logs To achieve such success, Emart communicated by partnering with Naver's "Happy Bean" to create a game and promote it, placing the game link in the Emart app for customers to click on and experience The main goal is to introduce a "mobile game" that adopts an eco-friendly mobile bill theme and to donate the money saved from paper bills to the "planting tree" movement Defeat a monster that wastes receipts, eats fallen leaves and raises points to plant trees Additionally, if you set up mobile receipt via the Emart app, you will receive a gifticon through a lottery However, if you want to bring this campaign to Vietnam, the first thing you need to do is to widely promote Emart's application, because Vietnamese customers often have the habit of going to supermarkets, buying directly and receiving paper bills not much interested in the application of the supermarket And to receive mobile bills, you need to download the app So when we brought it back to Vietnam, instead of immediately creating a game or bringing it back from theKorean Emart application, we chose to promote the Emart application first In addition, in order for customers to conveniently use the application when at the supermarket but the phone does not have the network, the supermarket also needs to ensure wifi at the payment points for customers to use (26)

Figure 26: "Mobile game" that applies the mobile bill theme

Decision Lab's findings show that the frequency of using e-wallets ofVietnamese customers is relatively high Of which, 35% of users use e-wallets 3-5 times a week and 30% of users use e-wallets daily In addition, the survey also shows that up to 61% of Vietnamese customers use two or more e-wallets The above survey shows thatVietnamese people are using e-wallets more and more, but EmartVietnam's application currently only has payment via momo or linked bank accounts In order to increase the frequency of use and make it more convenient to use the application, the project needs to link with more e-wallets such as VNPay, ShopeePay,

Figure 25: Graph of survey results on the number of e-wallet user

Brief description of e-invoice operations after adjustment:

After adjusting operations to suit the Vietnamese market, Emart enterprises in Vietnam will apply two parallel forms of printing traditional invoices and electronic invoices on the Emart application and customers have the right to Choose between these two formats. Besides, for the elderly, uncles and aunts who are not familiar with technology, there will be instructors at the payment points to guide the operation of receiving electronic invoices and at the payment points will have a connection to wifi for customers can access the Emart application The application will link with e-wallets such as Zalo Pay, VNPT PA, so that everyone can easily pay online and receive e-invoices, Emart will create activities (hire KOL, discount 10

Plan of "E-invoice" activity of Emart Vietnam

6.3.1 Defining the role of the business:

In leading the change in sustainable value activities of Emart Vietnam enterprises Leaders need to be aware of the process of building corporate culture, and at the same time have announcements, orientations and long-term goals to implement the proposed project Company leaders need to be committed and exemplary in building sustainable environmental activities for businesses and create regulations as well as regularly check and evaluate the work of building corporate culture.

In addition, Emart Vietnam needs to have enough human resources to monitor and evaluate the implementation process The action plan should aim at: Improving staff quality, disseminating the use of e-invoices well to customers, identifying actions that can be financed such as: implementation time, actual funding Currently, communication activities…

The purpose of implementing e-invoice activities at Emart Vietnam is to prevent waste of resources, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and huge environmental pollution when using too much invoice printing paper.

6.3.2 Plan to implement the campaign "E- invoice":

In terms of environment, Emart promotes ESG (environment, society and governance) centered management by strengthening environmentally friendly management and social contribution activities, while making efforts to improve retail chain value with the

"Electronic Invoice" campaign Media introduces the campaign through advertising and press

January 2024: Start of the campaign First, when customers pay, staff will actively introduce and encourage customers to use e-invoices on Emart application by downloading and logging in to the application Customers who register to use e- invoices will earn points and receive a 10% discount on their next purchase At the beginning, Emart will not fully apply the use of electronic invoices but will consult customers when making payment This helps the fighting campaign become more familiar to the Vietnamese people

February-June 2024: Maintain communication: use KOL to promote heavy, wasteful use of paper that affects the environment, and Emart has a way to help customers contribute to environmental protection by using invoices mobile instead of paper bills.

July 2024: As the number of consumers participating in mobile billing campaigns increases, clear reports and statistics are needed to draw conclusions for new project planning.

2025: 1 year anniversary of the campaign Plan the sweepstakes activity on the app when the customer selects the mobile bill Specifically: when a customer has an invoice of over 500,000 VND, he or she will be entered into a lucky draw(a coupon for the next purchase, buy a product at half price, ) provided that the customer chooses to use a mobile bill order paper and this activity needs to be maintained for a long time to create a habit for customers.

After achieving certain success, we will hold an event to promote to customers what Emart has done (save paper and ink And always let Standee, the poster to advertise the

“mobile bill” campaign) at payment points.

Emart Vietnam's goal is to make Emart the leading supermarket in Vietnam, in parallel with market expansion and revenue increase, the amount of waste discharged into the environment is increasing, so it is necessary to do more plans and campaigns to protect the environment in the near future (replacing plastic bags to paper bags, personal bags, etc.) To affirm to customers that Emart is not only a leading supermarket but also a friendly business.environment in the future Today, the environment is a major concern of Vietnam and the whole world.
