morpheme?Definition of morpheme: A morpheme is the smallest grammatical unit in a language that carries meaning It can be a word itself or a part of a word (e.g., prefixes, suffixes)

Differences between a word and a morpheme:Size: A word is often composed of one or more morphemes A morpheme is just a single unit of meaning

Meaning: A word can stand alone and convey a complete meaning, while a morpheme may or may not be able to stand alone For example, the word "unhappy" contains two morphemes ("un-" and "happy"), but "un-" cannot standalone

Function: A morpheme functions as a part of a word and may modify the meaning of the word, whereas a word is a complete unit of meaning by itself
