CHAPTER I: INTRODUCTION ABOUT MICROSOFT 1.1 The Brief History of Microsoft

1.1.1 The Early Days

Microsoft was founded by Bill Gates and Paul Allen in 1975 MS-DOS was born, marking the start of its dominance in the PC market In 1985, Windows 1.0 was released, eventually evolving into the widely used Windows

On 4th April, 1975, while most Americans were using typewriters in their workspace, two childhood friends Bill Gates and Paul Allen decided to found Microsoft, a company that produces computer software The following year, it was registered in New Mexico, then relocated to Washington State in

1979 and eventually grew into a major multinational technology corporation Microsoft, originally called Micro-Soft which stands for microprocessors and software, was established in order to make software for the Altair 8800 (an early personal computer)

Their breakthrough came in 1980 when they secured a contract to provide an operating system for IBM's personal computer Afterward, MS-DOS was licensed by several computer companies However, MS-DOS operating system at that time was just a non graphical interface and required users to type

in commands in order to open a program

MS-DOS was born, marking the start of its dominance in the PC market

In 1985, Windows 1.0 was released, eventually evolving into the widely used Windows OS This new operating system has a graphical user interface which includes drop-down menus, scroll bars and other features

1.1.2 Rise to Prominence

Microsoft expanded its products throughout the years, launching Office suites, Internet Explorer, and various other software that brings users better experiences and makes the working process become more efficient and productive

In the 2000s, they faced antitrust lawsuits but then continued to innovate Particularly, on 25th October, 2001, they released Window XP, unifying the mainstream and NT lines of operating systems under the NT codebase Microsoft continuously introduced Xbox gaming consoles in the same year, which made a huge challenge for Sony and Nintendo The 2000s period marked a series of the launch of Microsoft products as well as Azure, Windows 7, and the Retail Frontier (2007 - 2011)

On 4th February, 2014, Satya Nadella became CEO, who was a former leader of Microsoft’s Cloud and Enterprise division, embarked on a new era of leadership Microsoft, then, specially focused on cloud computing and AI Under his leadership, Microsoft became one of the world's most valuable companies, emphasizing cloud services like Azure and subscription-based models like Office 365

1.1.3 Mission

Microsoft's mission is to empower every person and every organization

on the planet to achieve more They aim to accomplish this by creating technology that is accessible, innovative, and useful for individuals and businesses worldwide Through their products and services, Microsoft strives

to enable people to realize their full potential and be more productive in their personal and professional endeavors

1.2 Opportunity

Careers: From software development to marketing, with a focus on cloud computing, Al, and cybersecurity, offering plenty of job opportunities for various branches

Innovation: Cutting-edge research in quantum computing, AR/VR, and

Al Hence, these advancements are reshaping industries, amplifying human potential, and opening doors to uncharted territories

Al: Opportunities in computer vision, NLP, and ethics Artificial Intelligence is a smart tool that performs and responds to consumers’ requests with vast amounts of knowledge in many aspects Therefore, it gradually enhances users! experience and gives the answer rapidly

Product Development: Roles in Windows, Office, Xbox, and Surface These products marked a crucial period in the development of Microsoft, making it become a formidable opponent to other companies in the information technology industry

Partnerships: Business development and alliances After the successful launch of Microsoft Office, it was the default setting on the operating system of each laptop By entering the item’s copyright code, users can use almost all Microsoft Office products without paying any fees

Remote Work: Increasing flexibility in work options For instance, every consumer can use several features from Microsoft services that would help them accomplish their work wherever and whenever they need just by having their personal computer or a laptop, ect

Diversity and Inclusion: Programs empowering underrepresented groups These programs encourage more and more people to be able to approach and get used to technology devices by generating friendly interfaces and colorful graphics

1.3 Products and Services

Moving to this section, we also call these as “Products of All Time” due

to their outstanding abilities and essential features which play an important role

in daily life, particular tools supporting officers in their work

1.3.1 Windows XP

Windows XP, firstly introduced to consumers on 25th October, 2001, which marked a significant turning point in Microsoft history Until now, this is one of the most broadly used operating systems around the world, some people

still praised it as the all-time best version of Windows because of its outstanding improvement in interfaces and features

Windows XP owns the bootable CD-ROM, allowing users to install the operating system from the CD-ROM without using a boot floppy Moreover, it provides helpful utilities such as Windows Media Player and Internet Explorer

Excel: is typically used to organize data and perform financial analysis Powerpoint: empowers you to create clean slideshow presentations and intricate pitch decks

From 1990 to 2000, Microsoft had some innovations as well as updating and improving versions of Word, Excel and Powerpoint, in order to provide better experience, smoother user elements and to improve security

* Cloud Service Transformation

In October 2010, Office 365 was first announced by Microsoft, then starting with a private beta with different organizations The following year,

2011, this computer software officially released Office 356 on 28th June, with cloud service including: traditional office softwares and cloud services such as OneDrive and SharePoint In 2013, Office 2013 was released with deeply integrating Cloud Service This new version allows people to access and work

on office applications from any device, as long as they have an internet comnection, improving flexibility and the ability to work remotely

* Microsoft 365 Development

In 2017, Microsoft 365 was introduced, combined with Office 365, Windows 10 and Enterprise Mobility + Security (EMS), bringing a comprehensive solution to businesses In 2020, Microsoft 365 Personal and Family were launched which expanded Cloud Service for individuals and households, including some features: Microsoft Editor, Money in Excel, va Family Safety These innovations help users work and interact more efficiently and flexibly with AI integrations and new services

1.3.4 Microsoft Solitaire

Microsoft Solitaire was a game added into the Windows 3.0 released version in 1990, with the main purpose: users get used to controlling computer mice, learn the basic motions and actions required for using a mouse Afterward, it had been the top 3 most used programs on Windows (According

to the book The Friendly Orange Glow) This game was included in every Windows release until Windows 8 Recently, there has been a combination of Solitaire with other card games as a free download, but is ad-supported

1.3.5 Windows 95

Released on 24th August 1995, Windows 95 is compatible with thousands of applications written for MS-DOS and Windows 3.x The Start Menu is a replacement for Program Manager in Windows 3.x to organize and launch applications installed on the computer Windows 95's taskbar extends across the bottom of the screen, providing a sophisticated yet compact way to manage tasks

Windows 95 was a virtual product, which led to the launch of Windows Explorer (now Fire Explorer), a file and application manager It has other software innovations such as saving files on the desktop area, file shortcuts, trash, Device Manager, My Computer

1.3.6 Microsoft Bing

Microsoft Bing, also known as a web search engine, was owned and operated by Microsoft, then, was unveiled by former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer in 2009 To talk about these outstanding points of Bing, we can say it has a broad range of features, from advanced filters, allowing users to refine search results, to tmage and video search By using keywords that users are searching for, it gives the most relevant results instantly because Bing was equipped with huge knowledge in a wide range of aspects: sports, finance, dictionary, calculations, flight tracking

Currently, Microsoft released a new Bing version, integrating with Chat GPT - a chat feature powered by a next-generation version of OpenAl's large language model, using a chatbot to give you detailed answers through your web searches in natural language

CHAPTER IT; MICROSOFT AZURE - INTERNET OF THINGS

APPLICATION 2.1 Overview

To explain the definition of Internet of things definition, or IoT, we can simplify it as a network of interrelated devices that connect and exchange data with other loT devices and the cloud

After getting the basic concept of IoT, we continue to learn about its application in Azure (a product of Microsoft) So, Azure IoT is a Microsoft service that refers to a collection of managed and platform services across edge and cloud that connect, monitor, and control billions of IoT assets

2.2 Functions

2.2.1 Device Management

Azure IoT Central and Azure IoT Hub efficiently manage millions of loT devices It provides features like device registration, authentication, status monitoring, and remote software updates that are helpful in the management process

2.2.2 Data Collection and Analysis

Azure enables businesses to collect, store, and analyze large amounts of data from connected devices Therefore, users can gain insights into device activities, predict issues, and optimize performance

2.2.3 Security and Compliance

One thing that Azure’s feature can ensure is the security of data and devices Through features like authentication, encryption, and continuous monitoring, users assure that their information and figures would be secured carefully, and will not be worried about leaked information Moreover, Azure was equipped with supporting standards and compliance rules to ensure regulatory adherence

For example, Azure Stream Analytics allows real-time processing and analysis of IoT data, giving responses rapidly and accurate figures According

to this information, users can increase the accuracy and speed up the working process

Azure is supported by multiple platforms and programming languages

By developing this innovation, it can reduce the complexity of loT application development and deployment across various devices

2.3 Achievements

2.3.1 Global Connectivity:

By the following improvement that was listed on the previous section, Azure is expected to connect billions of devices worldwide, unlocking the potential of global connectivity Every user in several countries will have a close bond and can easily cooperate with each other, as well as borderless communicating

One of the most special achievements of Azure was to apply across industries such as manufacturing, energy, healthcare, and agriculture, optimizing processes and enhancing innovation

Optimize performance and reduce costs through intelligent management and predictive analytics, towards consumer benefits
