INTRODUCTION

The reason for choosing the topic

Huflit's Faculty of Business Administration (FBA) equips students for diverse roles in the business sector, yet graduates face significant challenges in securing employment Key factors influencing FBA students' employability include skill development and alignment with employer expectations To enhance their job prospects, students must focus on improving their competencies Additionally, Huflit plays a crucial role in supporting students to achieve their career goals through targeted training and resources.

This study aims to identify and analyze the factors affecting employment outcomes for Huflit FBA students Utilizing a quantitative methodology, a survey will be conducted among final-year and recent graduates to gather data on their academic performance, extracurricular involvement, internship experiences, career goals, and job search strategies The research will employ descriptive and inferential statistical analysis to explore the relationships between these factors and the students' employment status.

This study is crucial as it provides valuable insights for both instructors and students By highlighting the factors that enhance employability, it empowers students to make informed choices regarding their educational and career development Additionally, the research enables educators to evaluate the effectiveness of their curriculum and teaching methods in preparing students for the workforce, offering recommendations to enhance the quality and relevance of their programs.

This study aims to enhance knowledge and practices in business education and career development, providing valuable information and guidance to Huflit FBA students to help them achieve their career goals.

Objectives of the study

This study aims to explore the factors affecting the employability of fourth-year students in the Faculty of Business Administration (FBA) at HUFLIT Graduate employability is defined as a graduate's ability to secure and maintain a quality job in the market The research will identify the contextual, academic, and personal influences on FBA students' employability, along with the challenges and opportunities they face during their transition from education to employment The findings will provide actionable recommendations for FBA students, faculty, employers, and policymakers to enhance the employability of graduates and their career success Additionally, the study seeks to offer guidance to senior HUFLIT students, particularly those in Business Administration, in making informed career choices and setting achievable goals while still in school.

Scope

The study, conducted over three months from March to May 2022, focused on the post-graduation job selection behavior of fourth-year students preparing to graduate During this critical period, students often experience anxiety about securing employment, prompting the authors to investigate their job-seeking behaviors and challenges.

The research is limited paper at the HUFLIT Faculty of Business Administration. This department has a sizable student body, and the employment options available to them are fairly diverse.

Employability of graduates is a major problem for both higher education institutions and students, particularly in light of the economy's and the labor market's rapid changes.

Fourth-year FBA students' perceptions of their employability, learning strategies, and the demand for their skills significantly influence their post-graduation job prospects Research indicates that business students prioritize problem-solving, positive attitudes, learning abilities, and communication skills as essential for entry-level positions Additionally, enhancing skills in conflict management, creativity, and innovation is crucial To improve employability, students should integrate traditional and student-centered learning methods, including lectures, case studies, and work-integrated learning Furthermore, factors such as industry trends, geographic location, and economic conditions affect job demand for business graduates, making it vital for students to stay informed about labor market opportunities and to remain adaptable throughout their careers.

In addition to the abstract, references, and appendices, the research report is structured into five chapters as follows:

Chapter 1: Introduction outlines the research process by detailing the criteria for selecting the research topic, defining its objectives and scope, and describing the methodologies employed It emphasizes the significance of the study and presents the organizational structure that will guide the reader through the research.

 Chapter 2: Literature review: State the theoretical and practical foundation of the study in order to suggest theoretical research models and research hypotheses.

Chapter 3: Methodology details the research techniques employed to establish the theoretical research model and hypotheses presented in Chapter 1, ensuring they are refined, enhanced, and rigorously tested.

 Chapter 4: Findings and Discussion: Demonstrating the analysis of research data,the outcomes of theoretical research model testing, research hypotheses, and discussion of research findings.

 Chapter 5: Conclusion and solutions: Describe the methodology and findings of the investigation, and then suggest some remedies based on the findings.

LITERATURE REVIEW

In today's competitive job market, employers prioritize candidates with a diverse skill set that includes communication skills, foreign language proficiency, and time management abilities This concept paper examines the relationship between these skills and the employability of fourth-year international business students at HUFLIT By highlighting the significance of these competencies, the paper aims to provide insights into how they impact student employability in the current workforce The findings will serve as a resource for academic institutions to enhance their programs, ensuring that students are well-equipped to meet workplace demands.

Graduate employability in Vietnam is a critical issue as the young workforce struggles to find quality jobs amid a competitive market with an oversupply of graduates The primary challenge stems from a skills mismatch between higher education and labor market demands, leaving many graduates without practical experience or industry-specific skills that attract employers To combat this, universities are increasingly offering practical programs like internships and work-integrated learning to enhance hands-on experience Additionally, fostering soft skills such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving is essential, as these are highly valued by employers The Vietnamese government has initiated efforts like the National Employment Fund to support job creation and incentivize businesses to hire graduates However, despite these measures, graduate unemployment remains a significant issue, worsened by the COVID-19 pandemic, which has led to reduced recruitment and hiring freezes, highlighting the need for ongoing investment in skills development and job creation.

Enhancing graduate employability in Vietnam necessitates a collaborative approach among universities, businesses, government agencies, and the graduates By uniting efforts to address the skills gap and generate more job opportunities, Vietnam can boost the career prospects of its youth and support sustainable economic growth.

2.2.1 The relationship between Communication Skills and Graduate Employability

Effective communication skills are crucial for employability, with research indicating that students who excel in this area are more likely to secure jobs and succeed in their careers A study by Khurram et al (2017) highlights the significant role of both verbal and written communication in enhancing students' job prospects Similarly, Oghuvbu (2016) found that strong communication abilities correlate with increased job offers and promotions For international business students at HUFLIT, these skills are particularly vital, as evidenced by Nguyen & Ho (2021), who identified communication proficiency as a key factor in employer hiring decisions Graduates with exceptional communication skills enjoy better employment opportunities than their peers, underscoring the positive impact of communication skills on graduate employability for HUFLIT students.

2.2.2 The relationship between English Level and Graduate Employability

Proficiency in a foreign language is crucial for job applicants in today's multinational corporate landscape Mastering at least one foreign language enhances candidates' employability, enabling them to secure positions that align with their skills and qualifications while facilitating access to valuable information Additionally, learning a foreign language should focus on practical applications, including education, professional development, effective communication, and enjoyable leisure activities.

Numerous studies indicate that various factors influence students' employability post-graduation The key elements contributing to success are knowledge, skills, and attitudes Additionally, a student's proficiency in English significantly enhances their overall capabilities, leading to improved job prospects.

Research indicates that fluency in a foreign language significantly enhances job applicants' prospects by creating a strong first impression (Pandey et al., 2014) Additionally, proficiency in a foreign language boosts employment opportunities for graduates (Vo Van Tai and Dao Thi Huyen, 2016) Companies prioritize candidates who demonstrate planning ability, knowledge, and English proficiency, highlighting the importance of these skills in the hiring process (Kantane et al., 2015).

2.2.3 The relationship between Time Management Skills and Graduate

Effective time management skills are essential for enhancing productivity and managing workloads, significantly impacting team performance and individual stress levels Students who excel in time management can accomplish more in less time, leading to increased satisfaction and reduced stress as they check off tasks on their to-do lists Poor time management, on the other hand, can result in a chaotic work style, negatively affecting the quality of work and overall success Moreover, strong time management abilities can enhance employability by helping students develop valuable soft skills and achieve their career goals Conversely, inadequate time management may hinder skill acquisition and diminish employability prospects Ultimately, mastering time management is crucial for academic success and future career opportunities.

Effective time management is essential for maximizing productivity, allowing students to prioritize tasks and complete crucial activities efficiently By mastering time management skills, both graduates and undergraduates can meet deadlines, which is vital for customer satisfaction in any business A healthy work-life balance not only benefits individuals but also enhances overall performance, as rested students are better equipped to excel With adequate time to focus, students can avoid making rushed decisions and instead utilize all available information to make informed choices.

Effective time management skills greatly enhance graduates' employability, as employers value individuals who can prioritize tasks and meet deadlines Graduates proficient in time management are more likely to thrive in their careers, demonstrating their ability to juggle multiple responsibilities successfully.

Strong time management skills are essential for graduate employability, demonstrating to potential employers a candidate's ability to work efficiently, organize tasks, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines These skills are vital in helping graduates differentiate themselves from their peers, as employers consistently seek individuals who can add value to their organizations.

A mixed-methods research design is ideal for exploring the factors that impact the employability of fourth-year FBA students at HUFLIT By integrating both quantitative and qualitative approaches, this design offers a thorough insight into the elements influencing graduate employability.

The study's quantitative research will utilize surveys to gather data from a large sample of 4th year FBA students at HUFLIT, focusing on factors such as academic performance, work experience, and skills that influence employability Statistical analysis of this data will help identify key elements impacting graduate employability Complementing this, qualitative research through in-depth interviews and focus groups with students, employers, and faculty will provide deeper insights into essential factors like soft skills and networking opportunities By integrating both research methods, the mixed-methods approach will offer a comprehensive perspective on enhancing the employability of 4th year FBA students at HUFLIT.

This study investigates the factors influencing job search success among final year FBA - HUFLIT students Utilizing a convenience sampling method, survey respondents were selected, and data was collected through survey forms distributed in online student forums.

Qualitative data gathered from interviews or focus groups can be influenced by the subjective interpretations of researchers, leading to varying perspectives on the information This subjectivity may impact the validity and reliability of the research findings.

When examining the relationship between various factors and graduate employability, it's essential to differentiate between causation and correlation The study may highlight correlations between these factors and employability outcomes, but it may not definitively establish a causal link Understanding this distinction is crucial for interpreting the findings accurately.

Time constraints can significantly limit a study, impacting both its scope and depth These restrictions may hinder the ability to gather data from diverse sources or to perform a thorough analysis of the collected information.

 External factors: External factors such as economic conditions, market trends, and changes in the job market may impact graduate employability and could affect the validity of the findings.

When researching the factors influencing the graduate employability of 4th year FBA students at HUFLIT, it is crucial to recognize and address potential limitations in both the study design and data analysis.

FINDINGS AND DISCUSSION

The demographic analysis reveals that 74.1% of participants are female, while 25.9% are male In terms of employment, 61.5% hold full-time positions, 23.6% work part-time, and 14.9% are actively seeking employment Regarding monthly income, 51.1% of individuals earn over 5 million VND, 32.7% earn between 3 million and 5 million VND, and 16.2% earn less than 3 million VND.

According to the data presented, 40.8% of individuals hold specialized jobs, while 32% have semi-specialized roles, and 27.2% occupy non-specialized positions Additionally, the TOEIC test scores reveal that 18.1% of participants scored between 255-500, 59.5% scored between 501-700, and 19.7% achieved scores between 701-900 Notably, only 1% of individuals scored between 0-250, and 1.6% scored between 901-990.

The data reveals key demographic insights about 4th year FBA students at HUFLIT, highlighting that a predominant 74.1% of the respondents are female Furthermore, over half (51.1%) earn a monthly income exceeding 5 million VND, suggesting that financial considerations may not significantly hinder their employability prospects However, it's noteworthy that 14.9% of students are actively seeking job opportunities, indicating potential employability challenges within this cohort.

Most respondents from HUFLIT are employed in specialized or semi-specialized roles, indicating a trend towards these job types among FBA graduates Additionally, the English language proficiency data, reflected in TOEIC scores, shows that a significant number of respondents have achieved commendable scores.

The data on 4th year FBA students at HUFLIT reveals key demographic insights that may influence their employability However, additional research is essential to pinpoint the specific factors impacting their job prospects and to formulate effective strategies for enhancing their employability outcomes.

4.1.1 Reasons why students can't communicate well

A significant number of 4th year FBA students at HUFLIT report a lack of confidence in communication, with 65% citing it as a barrier to employability Additionally, 50.2% of respondents struggle with self-expression and impressing potential employers Anxiety and limited professional experience also hinder communication skills, affecting 45% of students Notably, 73.8% of respondents highlighted these challenges as critical issues.

The survey results reveal that there are additional factors influencing the communication skills of FBA students, underscoring the necessity of enhancing these skills Prioritizing the development of effective communication can significantly boost students' confidence and their ability to articulate thoughts clearly.

Educators at HUFLIT must recognize and tackle the unique challenges identified by their students By understanding these specific factors and creating targeted interventions, they can effectively prepare FBA students for successful job market entry.

4.1.2 How do students manage their time?

Research indicates that several factors influence graduate employability among 4th year FBA students at HUFLIT A significant 61.5% of students report a tendency to procrastinate, completing tasks at the last minute, which can hinder goal achievement and overall performance Additionally, 48.2% of respondents acknowledge spending excessive time on non-productive activities, such as browsing the internet, socializing on social networks, and gaming, leading to a lack of focus and discipline that may adversely affect their employability.

A significant 52.4% of respondents identified habitual freedom and a lack of discipline as key factors affecting their productivity This absence of discipline can lead to challenges in effectively managing time, tasks, and deadlines, ultimately harming employability prospects.

Over 50% of respondents reported that pressures from studying, working, and other commitments contribute to time management challenges These overlapping responsibilities can hinder task completion and adversely affect employability.

A significant 58.6% of respondents identified additional factors influencing graduate employability, encompassing personal, social, and environmental aspects Further exploration of these causes is essential to uncover potential solutions aimed at enhancing the employability of fourth-year FBA students at HUFLIT.

4.2 Measures to overcome communication problems

4.2.1 Read books and materials on communication skills

A recent survey reveals that a majority of respondents are either undecided (31.7%) or have mixed feelings (13.9%) about the value of reading books on communication skills While 38.8% agree or strongly agree with the importance of such reading, only 39.5% recognize its value in enhancing employability This indicates that many students may not prioritize reading as a means to improve their communication skills, potentially due to a lack of awareness about its significance in the job market, limited time or resources for additional study, or a preference for alternative methods like internships and networking.

To enhance the employability of 4th year FBA students at HUFLIT, it is crucial to raise awareness about the significance of communication skills and to offer resources for skill development This can be achieved through workshops, seminars, and courses focused on communication, as well as providing access to relevant reading materials Integrating communication skills training into the curriculum is also essential Furthermore, conducting research to identify factors influencing graduate employability in this demographic will help pinpoint additional areas for improvement.

4.2.2 Confidence increases when students communicate well

Effective communication skills significantly enhance graduate employability among 4th year FBA students at HUFLIT, with 91.1% of respondents indicating that such skills boost their confidence in the eyes of potential employers.

RECOMMENDATION AND CONCLUSION

A study conducted on 400 Huflit University students aims to identify the key factors influencing the employability of fourth-year MBA students majoring in International Business Utilizing descriptive and analytical statistical methods, the research analyzes the employment status of the participants and the impact of various individual factors The findings reveal that the job hunting abilities of most students are significantly influenced by three primary skills: communication skills, foreign language proficiency, and time management skills.

Students should develop self-assessment habits and actively seek information about labor market needs to make informed career choices It is essential for students to communicate openly with teachers and family about their career selection challenges, as this support can help them overcome difficulties and boost their confidence in their future studies and careers Educational institutions must implement strategies to guide students in their career orientation early in their academic journey Research indicates that HUFLIT students face similar job-hunting challenges, highlighting the need for faculty to enhance career orientation measures within the School of Business Administration Based on these findings, several policy implications are proposed to improve the employability of students in the Faculty of Economics - Business Administration at HUFLIT University.

5.1.1 Organizing conversations and seminars for students on communication skills

Recent survey results and expert opinions indicate that strong communication skills significantly enhance students' job prospects, with a notable increase in employment status by nearly 9.74 times as communication abilities improve However, many recruitment experts believe that graduates often fall short in this area To address this gap, students are encouraged to take part-time or temporary jobs to build skills and gain valuable work experience Additionally, actively enhancing their knowledge and skills during their job search can further boost their employability.

In addition, each teacher should choose teaching methods and activities to improve students' ability to practice and accumulate skills.

5.1.2 Improve students' English proficiency through extracurricular activities

This research reinforces the importance of English proficiency in job searching, particularly among Business Administration students at HUFLIT University, where 78.9% secured jobs thanks to their strong English skills Consequently, it is essential for students to not only focus on their studies but also to regularly practice foreign language communication and cultivate a habit of speaking English to enhance their future employment opportunities.

Students should enhance their English language skills and gain practical experience through extracurricular activities and hands-on projects, both on and off campus Participation in seminars, training courses, and vocational events allows them to acquire valuable insights from industry professionals This experience not only enriches their knowledge but also facilitates self-assessment of their competencies, helping them align their skills with the demands of their future careers after graduation.

5.1.3 Giving orientation on time management skills to students in the learning process

Effective time management skills are crucial for success in the workplace As students approach graduation, it is essential for them to not only acquire professional knowledge but also to develop various skills, including time management This ability will enhance their job prospects and overall employability after completing their studies.

In the evolving landscape of the knowledge economy and global integration, universities must prioritize vocational training by fostering robust partnerships with businesses This collaboration is essential, as both educational institutions and companies play a vital role in the training process Consequently, internships and hands-on experiences within companies are crucial for enhancing students' practical skills and preparing them for the workforce.

Teachers should proactively establish connections with businesses to facilitate student internships, organizing practice sessions that link students with companies seeking interns This approach enhances opportunities for students to gain real-world experience, observe professional environments, and learn directly from industry leaders Additionally, students are encouraged to actively pursue work opportunities with employers to acquire valuable practical experience within their chosen fields.

5.1.5 Employment statistics of fourth-year students of the Faculty of Business Administration

Recent observations highlight a significant gap in the effective implementation of statistics and insights regarding factors influencing student employability Understanding the employment landscape for both students and teachers is crucial for helping students remain committed to their fields and secure jobs post-graduation Regular assessments based on teacher survey data and the dynamics of teacher-student relationships are essential Faculty should actively disseminate recruitment information through institutional channels, including alumni employment data and employer expectations Furthermore, developing a comprehensive framework for career orientation is vital, alongside evaluating labor market needs, providing career counseling, and organizing targeted career orientation programs for students.

Identifying key factors that significantly influence a student's employability after graduation is crucial Understanding the essential skills required for success and implementing effective measures can enhance overall employability and efficiency in the job market.

The likelihood of a student securing a job post-graduation hinges not only on their individual efforts but also on the support from society, family, friends, and educators Research indicates that accurately identifying essential foundational skills significantly aids students in finding employment that aligns with their abilities and interests, thereby enhancing their strengths This process allows for an evaluation of how well the Faculty's training programs meet the practical demands of the job market To effectively guide students in their career paths, educational institutions can implement targeted measures either simultaneously or in a prioritized sequence, tailored to their specific capabilities and conditions for optimal results.

To enhance self-assessment skills and career orientation among graduates, schools should organize skill-building seminars and integrate career guidance into the curriculum Encouraging participation in extracurricular activities allows students to gain valuable experience and develop essential career skills Each student must establish a clear learning strategy, adopt effective study methods, and maintain a positive mindset for success Active and sincere self-study is crucial However, current research lacks comparative studies on student diversity across higher education institutions Future research aims to provide a deeper understanding of the skills possessed by HUFLIT fourth-year students and their impact on employability.

As 4th-year students from HUFLIT School of Business Administration, we are conducting a survey to identify factors influencing job opportunities for graduating students This research aims to assist students in understanding their needs and aspirations to better prepare for their future careers We kindly ask you to answer all questions, ensuring that all survey information remains confidential The survey includes two sections: demographic questions and inquiries focusing on three key factors: communication skills, English proficiency, and time management abilities.
