PART 1: GVING THE PROBLEM1 Reason for choosing the topic.

In carrying out the current teaching task under the Ministry of Educationand Training's foreign language teaching project to 2020, one of the key tasksthat teachers need to achieve is that students can use English in communication. The detail of this is that students need to be able to communicate in English inthe classroom, present their ideas in English through talking with teachers, friends, and especially speaking ideas I thought about each of the Speakingtopics for each Unit, but they were learning about the specific content of eachclass level, especially English classes under the new 10-year textbook program.

In fact, many teachers and students are still confused in this issue whenspeaking Knowing this problem, in practice teaching at Nhu Ba Sy SecondarySchool, I have found a way to support my students to be able to get high scoresfor the Speaking test according to the topics of each unit that you have learnt. After a few years of teaching the pilot English program, I would like to presentthe ideas that I have applied and brought quite satisfactory results I developedan Experience Initiative with the content: "Some experiences to help grade 7thstudents at Nhu Ba Sy school improve their English speaking skill ".

2 Subjects and time of application of measures.

Students in class 7C at Nhu Ba Sy Secondary School – Hoang Hoa in theschool year 2023-2024.

3 Purpose and scope of research.

With the aim of addressing the issues of reality, linking learning contentwith real life Develop students' problem-solving skills; higher-order thinkingskills (analysis, synthesis, evaluation) Educate students on multiple skills(knowledge organization, life skills, teamwork skills, communication skills, etc.) Allows students to "work independently" to form their knowledge andproduce real results.

The project also aims to study and understand systematically the theory ofproject teaching, exploration, creation and collection of project implementationforms to help students in grade 7 to learn the syllabus He piloted to promotepositive, self-awareness in learning in accordance with the spirit of teachinginnovation, test evaluation, that is: students play the active role, thinking, creative, open teacher Encourages creative initiative of students From thatevaluation, to draw lessons learned to continue in the next stages as well asexchange materials among colleagues.

PART 2: PROBLEM SOLUTION1 Initial situation before applying the initiative

Trang 2

In fact, teaching at Nhu Ba Sy Secondary School, I was assigned to teachEnglish for class 7C The knowledge for each lesson is extremely rich and oneof the compulsory contents of Speaking skills must be tested at the end of eachsemester to contribute to assessing grading subjects along with a written test.As a passionate and passionate English teacher in my career, I have many timespondered when they speak English so weak, so how can you get good grades inthe Speaking tests? I have studied, learned the methods and found manymethods to apply and in teaching to help them improve their Speaking skills buthave not achieved the desired results until the following content If this article isapplied, the students will have improved their English skills in Speaking andtheir scores on the final first term and second term tests of the 2023-2024 schoolyear are good.

2 Solution content (implementation process, implementation time, organizational measures )

At the early stage of receiving students to teach, I found that their leveland ability to enjoy learning with English was extremely high and vibrant Ithink it is not difficult for them to present the Speaking ideas for each topic inthe lesson However, I was disillusioned when many students were very good, wanted to talk about what I needed to say, even the need to speak English inthem was so high that it was frustrating but they could not speak I had to workvery hard to help the children present their issues And I asked myself manytimes, “What's wrong, my students really like to speak English, why can't theyspeak? So what is the cause? ” So many times like that, and many times when Iwas exposed to the problem of my students not presenting what they needed tosay in Speaking, I also found the answer for myself, but I was able to say thesentence This answer has helped me to create a lot of achievements for thechildren The answer that I want to mention is only encapsulated in four words, four words are: FORMING IDEAS Yes, reality has proven that the idea formedwithin each individual is very important When we have an idea, we can doeverything we want with knowledge and enthusiasm The right idea will guideus to perform the right action and the idea is like a light lit up At thedestination, we are destined to succeed in life Therefore, the idea of a Speakingtopic is extremely important, it will help us to keep abreast of the topic to bepresented and will present the purpose of the presentation After sharing theafore mentioned ideas with the students, they developed their own learningstrategy through forming the ideas before presenting a problem.

Since then, each time they encounter a topic or problem they need to present, they do not rush to present it immediately, but let their ideas work before theyspeak So how can students form ideas for a Speaking presentation? In anycases, it is not an easy problem that requires each student to have a seriousworking attitude and must follow what the instructor instructs In order to get theidea to present to a topic in Speaking, students must ask their own questions foreach topic and at least the students themselves must be able to answer those

Trang 3

questions in short answer form or if they study If students are not able to askquestions to formulate ideas for each topic, teachers will help them at this stage. Moreover, when they have difficulty writing answers in the form of shortanswers, the teacher can have them work in groups to exchange ideas with eachother The groups then present their replies and the teacher will help themcomplete the ideas Here are some specific examples for some topics that Ihelped the Year 7th students in the 2023-2024 school year to formulate ideas foreach topic according to each Unit After the idea is formed and completed, theyneed to have a strategy that is to create an outline.

3) Building outlines

Outline is an essential weapon of any author who wants to write orpresent his topic successfully Outlines are considered torches that make it easyfor us to reach the finish line of success If there is no outline, then the writer orthe speaker will easily get lost in the problem and need to lead to vicious escape, the idea of winning will be constantly incoherent, unclear, making the article orsay become ruffled and disorderly.

So, what is an outline and what is said in each part of that outline?-Introduction of outline should have:

+ Lead in+ Opening+ Body+ Closing+ Ending

- What students say in the Lead in: Any Speaking will need a Lead inbecause it will guide the listener (teacher) on the issues they need to present. This is considered an essential part of any Speaking topic The Lead in section isalso very easy to set up and can be considered the most mechanical part of everySpeaking topic so it is easy for the students to form a habit and always includethe Lead in part in the presentation When talking about the topic "What do youthink about community service?", The Lead in sentence will be: Today, I wouldlike to talk about my ideas about community service And when talking aboutthe topic "What do you think about music and arts? ” the Lead in sentence willapply: Today, I would like to talk about community service.

In this way, it will be easier for them to form a habit of putting Lead ininto Speaking and make listeners feel comfortable when they are oriented to theproblem From there, the effectiveness of their Speaking scores will beimproved and the students' skills will become more and more solid in presentingthe Lead in part of a Speaking presentation.

- What students say in the Opening: The opening will open the right andimportant orientation for a Speaking test This is considered as a guideline tocreate a breakthrough for the entire topic to be presented in a Speaking topic. The Opening part will help the speaker to open up the ideas that need to bepresented in the Body, and the opening section will change according to the

Trang 4

specific topics that need to be presented, so it requires the speaker to get the idearight from the idea formation stage for the opening part because this is a veryimportant part for a speaking presentation

- What students say in the Body part: The Body part can be considered asthe lifeblood of a Speaking test because it is an integral part, without which itcannot be considered a Speaking and what has been formed in the idea, or Leadin and Opening are gone The Body part determines the value of a Speaking testso it requires students to reflect knowledge of vocabulary about sentencestructure and sometimes requires practical knowledge of the problem they needto present If you are not well-prepared, the body part will be incomplete, without the vocabulary, you will not be able to present your ideas in words butalso the secret cherished in your head, no sentence structure then the words arealso just fragments scattered side by side incompletely So providing studentswith vocabulary to turn ideas into words and provide sentence structure so thatthey can put words together into words is an important stage in the teachingprocess.

- What students say in Closing: Closing is the closure of what the speaker hassaid, in order to bring the listener to satisfaction, the unity of the issuespresented throughout from the top to the bottom a Speaking.

Whether or not Closing is good or not depends on vocabulary knowledge andknowledge of sentence structure that teachers have conveyed to students in theteaching process and depending on the comprehension of students in thelearning process The Closing section contributes equally to the assessment ofstudents' English proficiency, although this is a part that does not require muchtalk but requires students to know the appropriate vocabulary selection andlogical sentence structure.

At this point, the speaker must use synonyms, synonyms, other words orsummarize the parts presented above but must not duplicate the ideas presentedabove In short, Closing is a different way of saying the Opening to close theproblem with many different tricks.

Example: When talking about the Community Service topic Presented in theOpening and Closing section as follows:

+ Opening: I think music and arts are helpful because they can helppeople relax and bring people together.

+ Closing: In short, music and arts connect people together and give themhappy time for entertainment.

+ In Opening we have "help people relax" rewritten to "give them happytime for entertainment" in Closing, use synonyms.

+ In Opening we have "bring people together" which is restated as"connect people together" in the Closing section, use synonyms.

- What to say in the Ending: This section tells the listener that the problemwe need to present has ended and shows the delicacy and politeness of thespeaker to the listener The Ending also has a simple structure that is easy to say

Trang 5

and remember like the Lead in part This section is structured mechanically butalso brings the satisfaction to the listener but requires students to be very carefulin using polite and polite language according to the audience as a teacher andexaminer) so I provided the students with a structure: "That's all about my Thank you for your attention!" Students may not use "Thanks for" because thisis a tactless way of saying that they are older than themselves or that they are notallowed to just say "That's all." And skip "Thank you for your attention," as thisis extremely delicate to listeners especially judges of competitions.

So for this Ending, students only replace words or phrases that match the topicthey are talking about in the form of the instructor sentence, so they have acomplete Ending.

4) Provide necessary vocabulary

As mentioned above, vocabulary is indispensable for each topic, which is anextremely crucial component for a Speaking Without vocabulary, you cannotturn ideas into words Vocabulary will help make a difference between oneperson and another because at the same time, a problem, an idea but eachperson's vocabulary will make a difference for each individual For example, when talking about hobby, there are many vocabulary words to choose from Wecan talk about hobby in several ways:

+ My hobby is listening to music.

+ My favorite thing is listening to music.

+ My favorite thing to do in my free time is listening to music.+ I enjoy listening to music.

+ I am interested in listening to music.+ I am keen on listening to music.+ I am fond of listening to music.+ I am a big fan of music in general.

+ Listening to music is one of my favorite free time activities.+ Listening to music is the thing I often do in my free time.

Applying a rich vocabulary to the Speaking test will help listeners assess thespeaker's proficiency more accurately and the requirement for Speaking incommunication, tests and examinations is also easier to achieve.

Therefore, providing the necessary vocabulary for a lesson topic is a necessaryand extremely important task that requires the teacher to deepen the research andfind the appropriate form to convey to the learner Therefore, in every topic that

Trang 6

I am going to teach, I will research and select the necessary vocabulary, themain focus is that when students finish the vocabulary, they can understand thecontent of the textbook, and they can have enough knowledge to do therequirements of the exercises in textbooks, but also be able to apply them to thepresentation of your topics.

Example: When teaching Unit 1: My hobbies.

- After completing this lesson, students should present the topic "What is yourhobby?"

- So the essential vocabulary provided for this topic is about hobby I haveapplied many specialized tricks to get the kids moving their brains that set upvocabulary on hobby topics These tactics can be Brainstorming, Matching,Bingo !, Lucky Number,

The vocabulary used in this topic presentation may be related to another topic, and the vocabulary between the lessons is closely related So, when presentingthis topic, knowing how to apply vocabulary related to other issues will help tospeak more richly and attract listeners and also demonstrate students' knowledgeof the issues that they need to present .

Therefore, during the teaching process, teachers need to constantly teach newwords and reinforce old vocabulary for them so that they can apply effectivelyin learning, especially in Speaking.

Let's analyze a Speaking of a 7C student when talking about hobby to see theimportance and effectiveness of applying vocabulary to presenting Speakingproblem

“Firstly, making models can help me relax after studying hard because I canplay with them and I sometimes make models with my parents, brothers, sisters,my friends and my classmates and so on We really have good fun togetherwhen we make models Therefore, making models brings me a lot of happiness.I feel really relaxing when I make models.

Secondly, making models is not difficult because there are a lot of easy modelsfor me to make such as pot, teapot, pan, bike and so on I can easily choose atopic to make the models because there are a lot of normal things around me.For example, one day, on the way to my school I saw cat eating a fish I like thisview very much, so I make a model of a cat, a model of a fish I put the fish inthe cat’s mouth That helps me remember about the day I saw them.

Finally, making models is cheap because the materials for making them are notvery expensive We can use many kinds of materials to make models They canbe clay, stones, tree leaves, tree branches, paper and so on I can collect themevery where around me.

I don’t pay a lot of money for buying the materials Moreover, using recycledthings to make models is one of the best way to keep our environment clean andhealthy ”

+ This is a Speaking about hobby but I have put a lot of vocabulary related toother topics that I have learned from 7th grade in my Speaking.

Trang 7

5) Apply appropriate sentence structure

As mentioned above, sentence structures are like strings through string beads(vocabulary) to connect them together into a beautiful circle (a completesentence).

Each topic to be talked about can be presented through a variety of forms usinga variety of diverse sentence patterns and each individual student will bring usdifferent sentence patterns according to interests and knowledge and theteachers' communication to them.

Teachers must orient which structure is necessary for students to apply inpresenting their Speaking topic.

In the early stages of learning, they may apply the machine according to thestructure that the teacher provides but over the time they are used and trainedregularly, their knowledge will be increasingly advanced and each child willhave a separate selection of sentence patterns that are appropriate for you topresent what needs to be said in each Speaking topic.

For example, when talking about hobby, to introduce about their hobbies, theycan apply a variety of sentence patterns in combination with vocabulary topresent as mentioned in the example above Please be mentioned again below:

+ My hobby is listening to music.+ My interest is listening to music.

+ My favorite thing is listening to music.

+ My favorite thing to do in my free time is listening to music.+ I am into listening to music.

+ I enjoy listening to music.+ I like listening to music.

+ I am interested in listening to music.+ I am keen on listening to music.+ I am fond of listening to music.+ I am a big fan of music in general.

+ Listening to music is one of my favorite free time activities.+ Listening to music is the thing I often do in my free time.

Therefore, it is very important to train students to understand sentence structurein English and apply sentence structure to present problem in Speaking and itwill determine the success and difference of each student in learning English.

6) Apply link words to link ideas between sentences:

Word linking is essential in presenting any problem Word bonding canbe seen as a glue to attach parts of the sentence together or to link the sentencestogether systematically and help listeners understand what the speaker presentslogically Best.

Word links in English are extremely rich (see appendix 13) They can beprepositions, adverbs, require teachers to clearly and specifically guide themso that they can grasp these link words and apply them in learning and speaking.Speaking words in Speaking need to be improved over the years and must be

Trang 8

guided by the teacher every day through the transfer of knowledge presentedevery day.

I myself have helped them apply basic words like "and, so, because, but, firstly, secondly, thirdly, finally, in short, ." in presenting their Speaking problemthrough Each lesson and in the process of guiding the students to present theirtopic to present their Speaking is richer and better.

For example, in an article about "My hobby" by a student of class 7C, I haveapplied extremely richly and a variety of linked words Let's look back at thisarticle.

“I don’t pay a lot of money for buying the materials Moreover, using recycledthings to make models is one of the best way to keep our environment clean andhealthy ”

+ To link the ideas between the paragraphs together, this student has applied thewords "Firstly, Secondly, Finally"

+ To expand the idea of a problem in a sentence, this student has applied thewords "so, and, because, but, with, when"

+ To expand the idea for the previous sentence, this student has used the word"Moreover, For example"

+ To give an example, this student has applied the words "such as, For example

7) Actual presentation:

Presenting ideas in front of others is the best way to turn ideas into reality. Therefore, I have created many conditions for students to have the opportunityto present their Speaking in reality through the following forms:

-Show with partner:

+ Partner is an available resource besides a student, partner is always beside meto listen and share related learning issues and can say that partner is the one whounderstands me the most in a classroom Therefore, sharing ideas with partnerswill not be a problem for a student.

Trang 9

+ Understanding this, I always create conditions for my students to present ideaswith partners through the form of "work in pairs" Students are psychologicallycomfortable to share their ideas with partners They may be right, may be wrongbut still not shy because partners are people of the same level and the same levelwith them, and sometimes partners will help each other overcome the points inthe process of “work in pairs ”.

- Presentation with group mate:

+ Group mate: An opportunity for students to work in friendliness, harmony andexpand the information to be exchanged The group friends will be able to differon the ideas to present Therefore, when working in groups, they will be able toaccumulate more ideas to supplement their speech.

- Presenting to classmate:

+ In the learning process, the classroom environment is an ideal and friendlyenvironment for students to practice without hesitation and apprehension.Classmate will be the same level friends, the same school of thought so that theycan support each other to study and help each other complete the shortcomingsin the learning process.

+ Presenting a topic in front of classmates will help them feel more confident inthe learning process, they will not have strange expressions about theenvironment and feel comfortable to present their ideas.

+ Therefore, in the process of teaching, I always encourage students to boldlypresent with classmate because this will be a good condition for them to showtheir own bravery and take this opportunity to forge more confidence in front ofthe crowd so that you can become stronger in real communication.

+ Presenting with classmate and helping classmate to overcome errors are also agood opportunity for students to improve themselves From the speeches andideas of classmates, they can improve and revise their speech more completely.+ Presenting to teachers:

+ The teacher will be the one to help you more complete the ideas they haveapplied in their speech.

+ Teachers will help them improve their vocabulary selection and grammarstructure so that they will improve in the process of expressing their ideas inSpeaking with correct vocabulary and vocabulary structure France.

8) Forming skills

Form creating a lot of learning and practice environment for students to improvetheir Speaking ability, they will help them develop increasingly solid skills. Therefore, whenever you encounter a problem or topic that belongs to yourschool of knowledge, your vocabulary, you will be able to formulate ideas topresent through:

Forming ideas  Setting outlines  Selecting necessary vocabulary  Usingappropriate structure  Using link words  Practicing with friends andteachers through practice  Go to perfect the topic

Skills are essential in Speaking: Requiring them to constantly practice non-stop.

Trang 10

To acquire skills is not easy and the process of success depends on the passionof each learner and of many objective conditions affecting the learning processof learners.

But for whatever reason, the prerequisite required to form the skill requireslearners in general and junior high school students in particular to go through theabove steps to get a complete Speaking.
