1 INTRODUCTION

1 The reason for choosing the topic:

Nowadays, it is said that English has become a global language and isconsidered as a passport to help students easily find stable jobs with highsalaries after graduation Learning English has been interested in by the wholesociety it has become a compulsory subject in all secondary schools It is thekey for anyone who wants to get success in life One of the biggest reasons isthe strong development of the open economy, especially in the period ofintegration, when our country has become a member of the World TradeOrganization, this makes the demand for English in social communicationincrease Everyone recognizes that foreign language, especially English, is theneeded capital to live and work in the new age After the mother tongue, Englishis essential in daily communication, in many fields such as trading, readingforeign books, finding work in foreign-invested companies Learning Englishhas become a widespread movement In order to meet these needs, the learnersmust have a solid knowledge They must be good at skills, especially thelistening skills Good listening skill leads to good pronunciation and of coursethe learners’ speaking skill can be improved as well It is obvious that goodlistening and good speaking make communication successful.

As a teacher of English, I have been thinking about ” What should I do tohelp my students improve listening skill most effectively” So I often search andchoose some more exercises for my students to practise after the lessons Thisis the reason why I choose the theme: "Experiences in improving listening skillfor the students in class 6D at Cong Liem secondary school" Because oflimitation, in the theme I only mention some extra listeningexcercises in units1,2,3,4,5,6in English 6 “ Global Success”

2 The purposes of the study.

- Studying this topic will help English teachers like me gain the followingexperiences:

- How to organize an effective listening lesson.

- Follow steps to conduct an effective listening lesson.

- Create awareness and excitement for students to be interested in listeningskills.

- Guide the students to self –practice to be better at listening skills.

3.Scope of the study

- Subjects: The topic revolves around the study of developing listening skill forthe students at secondary school by choosing suitable listening exercises andhow to teach them effectively.

-  Performed on the students in class 6D at Cong Liem secondary school.

4 Method of the study

During the study of the topic, I have used many methods such as: -  Methodology of reasoning

- Method of reading and using materials, books in teaching English, learning

5 New features of the initiative:

The initiative is applied in teaching the new English program, "English 6– Global Sucess" which focuses on improving communication skills forstudents.

2 THE CONTENT OF THE INITIATIVE EXPERIENCE.1 Theoretical basis of the initiative experience.

As with other subjects, foreign languages follow the same sequence ofsteps, the teachers always use good methods to get the highest qualifiedstudents But learning foreign languages is more difficult than other subjects.Because it is a completely new subject for students It requires the learners tograsp the meaning and use of that language They also have to know how toapply the lessons in life Whether this process is effective or not partly due to theteacher's instruction Usually in a "Listening period", the learners are verypassive, because they always think "Listening" is just for pronunciation andretrieval information only In fact, if they do not have a good listening method,they will not be able to understand and find information quickly Therefore,teachers must always use the best methods for students to make accuratejudgments and motivate them to learn and really enjoy learning, activelydevelop the lesson and plan to prepare the lessons well before going to class,especially for the weak students In this method, the teacher is the instructor,while the students are always active They must have foreign language elements,communication skills, through listening, speaking, reading These skills mustalways support each other, so that they can understand and manipulate Englishcorrectly and skillfully Reading and speaking activities will be encouraged tosupport and test listening comprehension, which helps to improve listening skill.On the other hand, students use language as a medium of communication Thisprocess demonstrates that students themselves are active and they want to takepart in learning activities throughout the curriculum Thus, the lessons are reallymeaningful and students themselves are interested in learning, because they canlisten and speak English as well.

2 The real situation before applying the initiative experience.

In order to keep up with the change of the social, the method of teaching Englishmust be changed in order to help the students use the communication

skills fluently To improve our students' skills of communication, we must makecheerful environment for them to learn Language practice activities are verygood for students to review and acquire the knowledge enthusiastically.

Most of my students are not good at communicating The first reason is thattheir vocabulary is very poor Moreover, their listening skill is not good as well.A period just only has 45 minutes, I think our students don’t have enough timeto practise the skills, especially listening skill It’s very necessary for them tohave time and exercises to practise after school.

In the first term of school year 2023- 2024 conduct a quality survey for studentsof class 6D without applying interdisciplinary knowledge in to the lesson.

As a teacher of English, I have been thinking about “what should I do tohelp my students improve listening skill most effectively?” So I often searchand choose some more exercises for my students to practise after the lessons.This is the reason why I choose the theme: "Experiences in improving listeningskill for the students in class 6D Cong Liem secondary school". Because of itslimitation, in this theme, I only mention some extra listening exercises in units1,2, 3, 5, 6 in English 6 “Global Sucess” Please be shared to get additionalcomments from all of the colleagues.

3 Innovations or solutions used to solve the problem

3.1 The advantage of the listening exercises.

The below listening exercises are very useful They help students not onlyimprove listening skill but also review vocabularies, pronunciation of somesounds, the use of some structures and the parts of speech Especially theseexercises help students remember the topics of communication easily.

4 The tested result

This year, I have been teaching English in class 6D In every period of teaching,I always pay attention to teaching listening skill for the students So, besideslistening exercises in the students’ book and workbook I often collect exercisesfrom reference materials to teach students at the extra lessons I find out thatthese exercises have provided the students with the comfortable and effectiveway of learning English The students feel excited and they are eager to wait forEnglish classes They can understand the lessons more deeply They havebecome better and better at listening skill and more self confident incommunicating in English with each other Their pronunciation has improved somuch They either speak English in the class or outside the school confidently.They not only listen to exercises chosen by the teacher but also listening toEnglish songs as well They even take use of their recess to communicate inEnglish or listening to English songs Their listening skill has improved so

quickly Based on the results of the students’ learning, I had the results of

classification ability of listening and communicating of the students in class 6D

at Cong Liem secondary school in school year 2023 – 2024 as the followings:
