Trang 8Nowadays, the world has become a global village in which people watch the same TV channels, films, listen to same music, enjoy the same type of food, follow the same fashion trends and do other things like one another As a result, maintaining each person's cultural identity becomes essential It contributes to defining community which has distinctive features Cultural identity also helps to connect people, remind them of their shared history and strengthen the sense of solidarity between them Besides, cultural identity can nurture their love and respect for their country, community and heritage However, in this globalized world, cultural identity is becoming fainter and fainter Most people on this planet can speak English and wear similar types of clothes, which poses the risk of cultural identity dying out That is why maintaining cultural identity becomes so essential This can be done via preserving different languages, festivals, types of traditional music, dance and food, beliefs, religions and other unique cultural activities Everyone should share a hand in this process.
CONTENTOverview
In the trend of increasingly deep integration with the world and the current era of globalization, cultural globalization is considered “soft power “or “soft power”, helping to play an important position in the foreign policies of many countries Due to the history of movement and development of cultures and the history of the process of exchange, contact, and transformation of cultural values, cultural globalization takes place extremely clearly and strongly.Example: Many young people of the current Gen Z generation are very good at foreign languages, piano, information technology, cultural history of countries around the world.Kpop culture with famous music groups like Black Pink and BTS Cultural exchange festival between countries such as Vietnam and Korea,

Trang 9I.Advantages of cultural globalization
1 Cultural Exchange and Diversity
Promotion of cross-cultural understanding: Globalization facilitates the exchange of culture and ideas between countries and cultures Exposure to diverse traditions, languages, and cuisines : Cultural elements such as languages, beliefs, customs, practices, art and education are being spread and approached on a global scale This brings many benefits to the interaction process between countries.
2 Technological Advancements
Facilitation of communication and information sharing Cultural globalization creates opportunities for countries to exchange and share culture through the media Access to global media and entertainment: Cultural globalization allows people to easily access media for comprehensive information and entertainment around the world.
3 Economic Growth
Opportunities for cultural industries such as music, film, and fashion : this is also an opportunity to develop the cultural industry Countries can support each other in music, film production (finding foreign actors, scenes with a scenic background in the world), fashion, literature and art Tourism as an economic driver: it is impossible not to mention the development of tourism, most countries have opened their doors to create conditions for international visitors to enter and visit.
4 Cultural Hybridization
Creation of new cultural forms through the fusion of diverse influences: This is anatural phenomenon of globalization and international integration, helping to promote cultural diversity and create new marks in culture.
I Disadvantages of cultural globalization
1 Cultural Homogenization.
Cutural globalization, while bringing people together, can also pose a threat to local cultures, languages, and traditions and replacing them with a transnational
2
Trang 10culture For instance the widespread use of the English language is good for creating economic opportunities for people in the World But, it also threatens their indigenous languages The teaching of English in school is fast replacing local languages as the medium of instruction, thereby hampering the development of local languages ( Mikanowski , 2018) Another example of the erosion of local cultures is the disappearance of ancient cultures and customs due to technological changes brought by globalization
2 Dominance of Western Culture
Nowadays, Western civilization significantly affects the behaviours and thinking of people in other communities For example, young people tend to adapt quickly to the western style Another one is the influence of globalization has led to the widespread diffusion of Western culture, which can threaten the identity of smaller cultures and the loss of national traditions.
3 Cultural Imperialism
The rapid development of communication technology and social media, more and more wrong views appear and are spread on social networks This sometimes directly affects culture between countries around the world and there will be negative and false criticism about that country Global consumer brands damage the economies of developing countries, reduces competition, drive out local competitors and create consumer aspirations Besides global brands often cause people into debt For
introduction of global consumer brands and a similar proportion said the same of local heritage brands
4 Loss of Language Diversity
Nowadays, Vietnam joins international organizations, the use of foreign languages (English) is very important and necessary Moreover, it also helps integrate and develop with the world However ,If we use a foreign language for the wrong purpose or in the wrong situation, it will definitely damage our mother tongue.
III Cultural resistanceand Preservation
3
Trang 11Cultural resistance movements refer to social, artistic, and intellectual movements that aim to challenge and resist dominant cultural norms, values, and power structures These movements often emerge in response to social injustices, inequality, or repressive governments Cultural resistance can take various forms, including literature, theater, music, visual arts, and other forms of creative expression.
1A Examples of movements resisting cultural globalization Some notable examples of cultural resistance movements include:
1.Harlem Renaissance: This movement emerged in the 1920s as a celebration of African American culture, challenging racial stereotypes and advocating for equality and civil rights through literature, music, poetry, and visual arts.
2 Zapatista Movement: Originating in Mexico in 1994, the Zapatista movement is a grassroots indigenous movement that fights for the rights of indigenous communities and against neoliberal economic policies It combines political organizing with cultural expressions, such as music, poetry, murals, and theater. These movements, among others, demonstrate how cultural resistance can play a significant role in challenging dominant narratives and fostering social and political transformation.
1B Preservation of indigenous knowledge and traditions
The preservation of indigenous knowledge and traditional practices is essential for several reasons: Cultural identity: Preserving these traditions helps to maintain cultural diversity and respect the rights of indigenous peoples to practice and preserve their own customs, sustainable resource management, medicinal knowledge and biodiversity conservation: Preserving this knowledge can contribute to the identification and conservation of unique plant and animal species with potential medicinal properties It also ensures that future generations have access to these valuable resources.
4 Climate change adaptation: Preserving their knowledge can provide insights into climate change adaptation and resilience Such as the management of water resources, agricultural techniques, and climate forecasting, can help inform and guide modern approaches to address the challenges posed by climate change.
5 Social and economic empowerment: By supporting indigenous knowledge and traditional practices, we can promote self-reliance, cultural pride, and community
4
Trang 12development Efforts to preserve indigenous knowledge and traditional practices should be conducted in collaboration with indigenous communities, respecting their rights, knowledge systems, cultural protocols, and intellectual property rights This includes creating platforms for knowledge sharing, supporting indigenous-led initiatives, promoting traditional education, and integrating indigenous knowledge into mainstream decision-making processes.
B Promoting Cultural Preservation:
To promote cultural preservation, various initiatives are undertaken to protect and revitalize local cultures Some of these initiatives include: 1 Cultural Centers and Museums: Establishing cultural centers and museums dedicated to promoting local cultures can help raise awareness and understanding among both local and global communities 2 Cultural Festivals and Events: Organizing cultural festivals and events allows communities to celebrate and showcase their traditions, music, dances, and cuisines These events not only help preserve cultural practices but also promote intercultural exchange and understanding.
1B.Strategies for Preserving Cultural Heritage:
Preserving cultural heritage requires strategic efforts Here are some strategies commonly used: Documentation and Digitization: Recording and documenting cultural heritage can help preserve them for future generations, cultural Policy and Legislation: Enacting policies and legislation that protect and promote local cultures, community Involvement and Empowerment: builds a sense of ownership and responsibility for their cultural heritage Empowering communities to actively participate, maintain traditions, and pass on knowledge ensures the continuity of cultural practices.
Cultural globalization brings many benefits such as developing cultural exchanges, making relationships between countries become better and closer However, cultural globalization also has many disadvantages such as : cultural homogenization, dominance of Western culture , loss of language diversity Living in the current era of cultural globalization, we need to integrate without dissolving, expanding cultural exchange relationships without losing the nation's cultural identity Individuals and communities
