• Scanning is looking quickly through a text to find specific

names, facts or figures

• For example, you might scan a list of television programmes to find the name and time of a programme In an exam, you scan

a text for information to answer a question

When you read for detail, you study part of a text very carefully,

to make sure you understand exactly what the writer means
