1 Some verbs can be followed by either form with no difference in meaning, e.g: begin,
continue, like, love, prefer, start…
Some verbs are followed only by the –ing form, e.g: admit, consider, detest, enjoy, can’t help, finish, suggest…
Some verbs are only followed by to + infinitive, e.g: agree, ask, expect, happen, hope, intend, promise, persuade, refuse, would like…
Some verbs are followed by infinitive without to, e.g: let, make
Some verbs change their meaning depending on whether they are followed by –ing form or to , e.g: remember, forget, stop, try

Do and make are often confused in set expressions
1. Do is used to talk about: work, jobs and activities
2. Make is generally used to talk about creating or producing something It is also used in many
expressions: make a bed, make a choice, make a mistake…
3. Go is often used with gerunds, e.g: go swimming, go fishing, go camping
4. Other set expressions: go to bed, go home, go to school, have a picnic, have an argument, do
damage to something, do well, do badly, do your best, do your hair
