1 When people speak English, they speak

in short phrases, and they stop, or pause,

between the phrases.

2 It’s important to stress the most important word.

II Linking words together

1 Consonant-to-vowel linking (Student book, p.76)

A consonant sound at the end of the word is

linked to a vowel sound at the beginning of

the next word.

We can also separate the word if we want to.

Trang 44

II Linking words together

2 Linking /j/ /w/ (Student book, p.78)

If the first word ends with a vowel sound like

/i/ or /i:/, and the next word starts with any

vowel sound, we use /j/ to link the words.

If the first word ends with a vowel sound like /u/ or /u:/, and the next word starts with any vowel sound, we use /w/ to link the words.
