201 I nternational Standard I EC 60335-2-54 has been prepared by I EC technical committee 61 : Safety of household and sim ilar electrical appliances The principal change in this edition as compared with the third edition of I EC 60335-2-54 is as follows (m inor changes are not listed): The scope has been further restricted to cover appliances where the product of pressure (in MPa) and container volum e (in l) does not exceed This part is to be used in conjunction with the latest edition of I EC 60335-1 and its am endm ents I t was established on the basis of the fourth edition (2001 ) of that standard NOTE When “Part ” is m ention ed in this standard, it refers to I EC 60335-1 This part supplements or modifies the corresponding clauses in I EC 60335-1 , so as to convert that publication into the I EC standard: Safety requirem ents for electric surfacecleaning appliances employing liquids or steam When a particular subclause of Part is not mentioned in this part 2, that subclause applies as far as is reasonable When this standard states “addition”, “m odification” or “replacement”, the relevant text in Part is to be adapted accordingl y NOTE The followin g num berin Luan van Luan an Do an –6– I EC 60335-2-54:2008+AMD1 : 201 CSV  I EC 201 I NTRODUCTI ON I t has been assumed in the drafting of this I nternational Standard that the execution of its provisions is entrusted to appropriatel y qualified and experienced persons This standard recognizes the internationall y accepted level of protection against hazards such as electrical, m echanical, thermal, fire and radiation of appliances when operated as in norm al use taking into account the m anufacturer's instructions I t also covers abnormal situations that can be expected in practice and takes into account the way in which electrom agnetic phenomena can affect the safe operation of appliances This standard takes into account the requirem ents of I EC 60364 as far as possible so that there is compatibility with the wiring rules when the appliance is connected to the suppl y mains H owever, national wiring rules m ay differ I f an appliance within the scope of this standard also incorporates functions that are covered by another part of I EC 60335, the relevant part is applied to each function separately, as far as is reasonable I f applicable, the influence of one function on the other is taken into account When a part standard does not include additional requirements to cover hazards dealt with in Part , Part applies NOTE This m eans that th e technical com m ittees responsi ble for the part stand ards have d eterm ined that it is not necessary to specify particular req ui rem ents for th e appl iance in q uestion over and above th e general req uirem ents This standard is a product family standard dealing with the safety of appliances and takes precedence over horizontal and generic standards covering the same subj ect NOTE H ori zontal and g eneric standards coveri ng a h azard are not applicabl e since they have been taken into consideration wh en devel opi ng the general an d particu lar req uirem ents for th e I EC 60335 seri es of stan dards For exam ple, i n the case of tem perature requi rem ents for su rfaces on m any appli ances, gen eric stand ards, such as I SO 3732-1 for hot surfaces, are not applicable i n ad dition to Part or part stan dards An appliance that com plies with the text of this standard will not necessaril y be considered to compl y with the safety principles of the standard if, when exam ined and tested, it is found to have other features that impair the level of safety covered by these requirements An appliance employing materials or having form s of construction differing from those detailed in the requirem ents of this standard m ay be examined and tested according to the intent of the requirements and, if found to be substantially equivalent, m ay be considered to compl y with the standard
