investors will come to business in Vietnam in the next few years English has become an indispensable language in human communication and business activities So, parents want their children to learn English early to help them learn naturally, hear and speak correctly, develop better language skills and brain thinking Therefore, the Sunshine English Center has created a suitable English learning environment for children and adults A learning program designed specifically for the child’s age, can help children practice English through games and pictures The purpose of this internship report is introducing about the English Center and activities while I was there First of all, I introduce the background information of Sunshine English Center Next, I describe my work during weeks of practicing During the practice, I faced many difficulties and challenges and I always try to overcome them In conclusion, I will give some suggestion to the internship company and An Giang University PART A OVERVIEW ABOUT SUNSHINE ENGLISH CENTER I Sunshine English Center introduction: Introduction: Established in 2015, to train talents for the country's industrialization and modernization Sunshine English Language Center always takes teaching quality as a guideline for activities Sunshine English Center teaches all levels from English for kindergarten, English for children, English for Center will become a qualified English teaching center under the motto "Learning with practice" to meet the foreign language learning needs of students in An Giang province and surrounding areas It fosters foreign languages for cadres, civil servants and, public employees of units wishing to serve the work The Center expands association and cooperation with units with functions of foreign language teaching, creating conditions to promote the growing movement of foreign language teaching and learning II Area of operations: Sunshine Language Center has the function of training and fostering foreign language knowledge for learners in many forms according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training such as English for children, communication and conversation English; Foreign language certificates at level A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 according to the 6level language proficiency framework applicable in Vietnam and international foreign language certificates such as TOEIC, TOEFL and IELTS The center's learning forms are always diversified, flexible, and highly social, to contribute to improving people's knowledge, and foreign language application skills for learners At the same time, it meets the needs of improving the quality of human resources for the cause of industrialization and modernization of the country, contributing to the construction, renewal Sang spent her time introducing the center and its activities In the following days, I have 22 tried to get used to the working environment, and they are almost kids so I tried to remember their names to get on well with them I met lots of staff of the Center and they shared their work experiences, some skills to communicate with children to me After getting used to the working environment, Ms Sang assigned me office duty and she arranged a working schedule for me I had a timetable of working every evening from Monday to Saturday My job is quite simple The first task I have to when I go to the center is welcoming the students Every day, I waited with another staff member at the door and greeted them and after the class finished, I would also stand by the door to say goodbye and pay attention to each students until their parents pick them up Occasionally some parents are late and I talk to the kids to wait for their parents Before starting a class, I usually check the teacher's arrival time and the class attendance if a student is absent for two sessions without permission I will call the parent While they are learning I often prepare a lesson plan, check lessons in PowerPoint, grade their tests, and complete each class scorebook Before they take the midterm or final exam, I always check their test if there is nothing wrong I will print the test for them Besides, I always keep clean the duty room and remind students to keep the classroom clean on Saturdays of each week I often attend center meetings to listen to my strengths and weaknesses to improve myself class activities as a teacher's assistant, before class I prepared for the teacher materials related to the lesson, pictures, flashcards, this can help classes become more lively and children can acquire knowledge better In the first fifteen minutes, I supported the teacher to review the old lessons for the children and take the class attendance and at the end of the class, I would help the students to read the lessons again During the midterm or final exam, I supported the teacher to supervise the children doing the tests and collect the papers when the time is up When it came to the speaking test, I was charged with recording the video of the teacher testing the child's speaking skills and sending the video to the parents so that they would know how the child's speaking skills were and practice more for the child After the teacher graded it, I had the responsibility to complete the scorebook and evaluate it 24 II Results of the internship: In the process of studying at university, the internship is an extremely precious opportunity to experience the most authentic, professional working environment Eight weeks in Sunshine English Centre not only takes my academic knowledge into the practical experience but also lays a solid foundation for my future jobs Knowledge acquired: My two monthly internship was not long but was very useful for me and I learned more valuable working experience than I expected This internship course gave me the opportunity to use my English knowledge through four skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing Besides the improvements in communicating, translating, interpreting, and writing, I also acquired knowledge in Word and Excel through the times working and preparing lesson plans My skills in using computers and other modern machines such as printers, photo machines are gradually getting better with the guidance of other teachers The teachers and the staff at Sunshine English center have been enthusiastic in pointing out my mistakes so that I could receive a lot of valuable experience for my future job I recognized that my English grammar and translating skills are improved Skills improved: During the past two months internship at Sunshine English Center, the internship course brought me many opportunities to improve many skills, including interpreting, translating, and teamwork skills Firstly, my internship helped me gain considerable expertise I have had the opportunity to communicate with other teachers and assist the teachers The teachers and staff of the center instructed me 25 on how to prepare lesson plans and improve my speaking skills in public to make me more confident when coming to class Secondly, in the trainee process, my teamwork skills have improved Teamwork and work in pairs were also good ways to improve the cooperation between people In other words, thanks to working with coworkers, my communication skill with many people and presentation skills in front of them were also better through sharing my ideas, consulting their suggestions or advice To achieve success, it is important that each team member must accept accountability and complete his duties in a timely fashion Along with being accountable for task completion, the skill of accountability means that acknowledge and take responsibility for mistakes The last skills I have improved from this internship are communication skills with children and patience I first met kids who were scared of me and I couldn't communicate with them however, I always patiently communicate and maintain a friendly attitude with them, after that, they no longer fear me, talk to me more Apart from gaining a lot of major knowledge and skills from other teachers, I picked up some of their valuable soft skills such as time management and communication skills as well Surely, this opportunity will be helpful to my future jobs The center’s teachers and staff at Sunshine English center helped me a lot when I worked here I became more confident when I was opening and sociable with everyone in the friendly working environment III Advantages and disavantages of the internship: Advantages of the internship: Thanks to the support of the Faculty of Foreign Languages and the internship company, I have successfully completed my internship The teachers in the faculty, especially Ms Bui Thi Thuy 26 Trang – my instructor, enthusiastically helped me The internship company has created the best conditions for me to cooperate with them so I am not forced or pressured when I work there In addition, I have improved lots of about four skills: listening, speaking, reading, writing, and communication skill, especially communication skills with children, and thanks to that, the children communicate becomes more and more cherishable me Disavantages of the internship: The actual working environment differs from the theory I learned in school on the first days, I felt nervous when the working environment was completely new and especially I feel difficult to communicate with strange people such as the parents of the children because I am not confident to show my ability Besides, during the internship, I discovered that the theories in school did not apply much to the work I was doing PART C CONCLUSION AND SUGGESTIONS OF THE INTERNSHIP I Conclusion: Eight weeks for an internship is a meaningful time not only for me but also for the other trainees Despite the short time of the training process, the internship course makes me feel more confident and patient than before As a result, I feel more confident and comfortable when communicating with others people To get these valuable lessons and experiences, I would like to give my sincere thanks to all the teachers and staff of Sunshine English Center and the teachers in Faculty Foreign Language, An Giang University II Suggestions: 27 Suggestions for the internship company: In the future, I hope that the Center will improve the facilities of the office because working in a convenient environment will be more efficient I think there are many students who love children and want to become teachers so they want to practice in English centers to have more experience in teaching For this reason, the Sunshine English Center should offer more opportunities for students to internship there Suggestions for An Giang University: In my opinion, the Department of Foreign Languages should provide more references to help students have more references and complete their report in the best way Besides, the school should open a seminar to guide students on how to write reports for students In addition, training programs should focus more on skills training for final year students and skills related to the jobs they can after graduation 28
